One thing you will never hear is this Marine talking about how "bad" he is or how brave he is. He doesn't need to. The guy to respect is not the big talker. It's the quiet, humble one.

As a former serviceman I salute Cpl. William 'Kyle' Carpenter for his outstanding selflessness, quick thinking, live saving actions. I have one question that perhaps someone here can answer for me. The presentation of the Medal of Honor Flag is a relatively new honor going with the medal. I am curious to know what the recipient does with the flag. Is it a purely display flag, folded and encased in a timber triangle; or is it a flag that is flown on the recipient's unit flag staffs, or is the recipient allowed to fly the flag at his place of residence? Does he, or she, get a small version of the flag to be flown on the recipient's private vehicle or any service vehicles he or she travel in? I only ask these questions because in my country, Australia, people awarded the Australian Victoria Cross do not receive a Victoria Cross flag. In fact there is no such flag connected to that award. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to reduce my ignorance... Cheers, BH

The ceremony is awesome! My only problem is that ANNOYING click going on apparently from the person shooting the video. I'm not sure how it would be possible, but it seems like he's taking stills with the same camera he is videoing from. Not good. If you're going to do both, fine, but not at the same time, ESPECIALLY not for something like this!

I had the honor to be present when a Navy MOH winner was on my base. For some reason he asked me to take a walk with him and told me to watch. When approached by 2 senior officers, he refused to salute at which point they started to “dress him down” but he showed them his MOH they immediately snapped to attention & saluted him! What a life changing event! We didn’t stop laughing until we got to the enlisted mens club where we attempted to lose appropriate numbers of brain cells! Thank you Chief for your service and sacrifice!

My country has forgotten the sacrifices made by many Marines from 1941 through to the end of WWII in 1945.
I on the other hand have been raised by a family which chooses to recognize that freedom is never free and it does indeed take men like yourself, to maintain and keep that freedom.

Just to clarify: there is no reg saying everyone salutes a MOH wearer first. There is a long standing tradition to do so when the MOH is being worn, and the higher-ups don’t say no.
In the UK, there is such a reg. for the VC. If Field Marshall Sir Garnet Wolsey meets Private Joe Bloggs, VC, Sir Garnet salutes, and waits for the return. Not sure if Pvt. Bloggs has to be wearing his VC.

He jumped on a grenade he was going to get hit with anyways to save 1 other marine from getting possibly injured.... yes I respect him for his actions but no it doesn't deserve the same award that the nation has to offer that others have gotten for saving MULTIPLE people (like the navy seal that got it for saving 28 fellow soldiers by engaging over a dozen enemies on his own and getting shot close to 20times not including shrapnel wounds until a,shot to the heart put him down but not before he saved all his comrades)
