Should report them to TFL as well, that response from the met is too weak.

Ridiculous that a professional cab driver gets sent on a course, they should just go straight to fines and points.

I rarely ever take a taxi, but if I did and they drove like this, my tip would me in the form of a suggestion rather than monetary.

Report to TFL, their driving is incredibly dangerous and perhaps deliberate?

You wrote "[...] failed to react [...]".
I don't think he "failed" to react.
IMO, that was a deliberate action and therefore the driver would've fully deserved to get points and a hefty fine instead of a driving awareness course.
Just look at the time he drove abreast of you. He must have noticed your presence since he was forced to occupy the left part of the lane DUE to your presence.
Plus, as @lukei1 already pointed out, professional drivers should be dealt with differently in this regard as a matter of principle.

@lch854 I totally agree with you. It doesn't look like the taxi driver failed to see Gaz, otherwise he would've just taken the whole lane instead of going gently taking half of it waiting for Gaz to get the hint that he should stay back. I'm not proud of it but I loose it sometimes myself when serious things happen that are not just a small distraction but something done "gently" (or not so much) on purpose.

You can get electric, battery powered horns now that are small and also loud. I think they're designed for use on escooters. I bet that driver would have reacted to a horn.

I have an Air Zound which is practically an air horn and road users don't flinch. It's about them not anyone else,. They know what they are doing but it's ok if it saves them four seconds. Lanes on roads are covered in white paint with big words and symbols painted on them, you can't miss them.

I am not satisfied until we have a horn like this: ua-cam.com/video/MPSSuxXoVq4/v-deo.html 😂

@bradfordzone5187 I had an Airzound and found it not nearly as good as an electric horn. One of the problems is you only get about 10 seconds of horn out of Airzound. If used once and then find you need to use it again on the same trip, I found it had often run out of air and it did nothing. In cold weather it seemed to hold less capacity meaning it needed to be pumped before every trip and then when used it would often make a weak sound because it didn't have enough pressure. Basically I could not rely on it to be a loud horn when needed. A battery powered electric horn needs to be charged every few months. I could probably down the horn button and get a loud noise for well over 5 minutes constantly. It's loud enough that the bike's entire frame vibrates when used.

It's money they want when you park longer then you should. You don't go on a driver awareness for that. This is a blatant disregards for a cyclist and should be a heavy fine. I think these new laws that came in were just a joke.

This behaviour should be punished by points. As a professional driver the idea that he doesn't know how to pay attention so the safety of cyclists is just bogus. It should be straight points and a fine that goes into buying cameras for other cyclists who need to get these ddrivers of the roads.

  • @Bosun25

At the risk of a bit of backlash here, at 0:15 when you realised that there was a bit of _danger_ beside you, maybe you could've (or should've) eased off on the pedalling a little and dropped behind the taxi and made your pass when things got a bit safer up the road.
_Don't get me wrong, I would've done exactly the same as you. But in the cold light of day, I sometimes think that I could've done things a little differently..._ 👍

Doing this, would teach idiots like that driver, that they can do it all the time, because the cyclists will hold back. As long as it is safe to keep your speed, keep it. Report them and hope that they get prosecuted. That's the way how to learn the rules, it has to be expensive.

It doesn't look like he ran a red right. He timed his approach to the lights to avoid stopping. If anything it is the car that passed that jumped the red light.

@@vfclistsThe light was still red when he crossed the white line and rode half way through the junction. The stopping is behind the white line. He ran a red light , pure and simple.
