- Day of the Dead explores the special objects and rituals of the annual Mexican celebration of All Souls' Day, which is observed on the first day of November. The film examines the Mexican philosophy of death and the ways in which people have come to terms with mortality. A rich variety of folk objects, created each year for the celebration are shown in detail.
Music composed and performed by Laurindo Almeida.

I commented to my Latina wife that I remembered being freaked out seeing this in elementary school, (she never saw it) and that it has taken 50 years since this for Dia de los Muertos to become known more mainstream here, beginning mid-00's. But I think the success of Disney's Coco was the point where it has now become a part of American life for many, especially out here in the west and southwest.

All Souls' Day is observed on the second day of November, as it says in the title sequence. The first day of November is All Saints' Day.
