I love this. When I saw it in action I immediately wanted it to be moving on a track at me and than in reverse. Almost like it could be crawling out of a door way or something.
Great motion! very smooth and it looks like it can the weather too!
Thanks for sharing. I have used this mechanism with great success. It's simple to build and very durable.
Awesome prop! Thanks for sharing
Awesome idea! Might have to steal this idea for this years haunt! Thanks for sharing!
Great movement! Thank you for sharing.
Great instructional video, it's one of the best ,vary easy to follow, please do more 😀
That's awesome....going to try and make it, great idea...
Excellent video and explanation👌
Looks good!
Nice job
Cool looks great
what a get idea !! thanks for sharing !! HFL!!
Very slick. :)
Nice
Great videos, extremely tutorial and easy to follow and we love your other props = QUESTION - say I use a windshield motor...how do I power it? It looks like you somehow wired it for electricity.
I have the same question. It looks like it might be some sort of DC converter? As many of these DIY's as I've watched, this subject doesn't come up?
@@kgpiper44 windshield motors come from cars which are based on a 12V system, this means that you can’t just plug in into the wall outlet because that is 120V and it will just blow up. so, all you really need to run one of these motors is a good 12V power supply with enough amperage, something like 5 amps. You could use something like a computer power supply, but of course they can’t get wet so not really a good idea for outside use. Even some gaming systems like the older Xbox use 12V supply so if you had an old cable that you weren’t using that might be an option. But if you don’t know what you are doing the best way is to just look online, I know that Frightprops sells the windshield motors and power supply’s together, so that would just the easiest way of doing it.
In the title he does it a wiper motor from frightprops so they have probably got adaptors to convert the power, however! Another idea is to grab a small 12V battery from your local battery supplier, about AU$50 at battery world in Australia, then there's no cable running too far and in the way, and can be charged with a car battery charger!
Plumbers Tape is a quick easy cheap way to strap down motors and stuff
Looks great, I may have to make one, biggest problem is the cord running out the back?!?!?!
What’s really neat is the cranky sounds of the machinery kinda sounds like a skeleton’s loose joints.
is there any need to ground the motor? or does the ground from the power supply make it so it's grounded? in a car I believe the frame of the car is what gives it its ground.
nah he just trolled us. the editing took a day and he uploaded it the day after
Did you run the pvc 19inch inside the spine of the skeleton all the way up thru neck
Yes. I only loosely secured the head so it would move around.
Very nice! But I missed the part in the beginning where you acquired the parts that turn from side to side. What is the name of those pieces that allow the center bar to "turn"? I've never seen anything like that in those big "home" stores.
You mention "connectors" at .54 seconds, but I can see myself walking into "HomeLowes" asking for PVC connectors, and getting the "look" from the help.
If I understand your question correctly, those are 1" to 1/2" PVC Reducers, available at Lowes and HD. You can push the 1/2" end in all the way and glue them in place, but leave the 1" end loose so that it can turn. Add a little grease for better movement. www.homedepot.com/p/Charlotte-Pipe-1-in-x-1-2-in-PVC-Sch-40-SPG-x-FPT-Reducer-Bushing-PVC021080700HD/203811579
What did you use as linkage from your motor?
is the 19" diagonal piece just sitting on the 2" nut and bolt where it attaches to the motor arm?
Good question. Nope. Play the video at 1:05 and you can see that it is bolted to the 3" cross bar. This serves as a pivot point so that it moves in a circular motion when connected to the motor. The weight of the skeleton is on the 3" cross bar. Thanks for watching!
Is it a riegndeer motor or a windshield wiper motor?
What are you using for a power source? You are going from 12 volt to house current using...???? Thanks
Hmmmm, I guess I skipped that part. Great question. I use a 12volt 5 amp DC power supply. You can briefly see it at 2:46 in the video. I buy these from frightprops.com, but they are available elsewhere as well.
Hawthorne Manor Haunted House thanks. Appreciated
Do you think this would work off a reindeer motor or not enough torque?
Gilbert Street Cemetery I think a reindeer motor would have enough torque because there isn’t much weight, however it would move considerably slower. That’s why I chose the wiper motor.
I have an extra reindeer motor laying around and just finished my first motor/moving prop so was looking for another easier build for it. But now that I think about it I think your probably right I don’t think it would be quite quick enough
How would you just make this go back and forth, not side by side...without motor. Want to make prop for outdoor witch without motor. Your idea looks great to start.
mark spencer please see my recent video on "the intruder". You need a pivot point. The motor can push it forward and pull it back.
ok, question ***** your vertical cross piece that is 1/2 inch is that not a bit of a tight fit? When i spin mine it squeeks loudly from the front to back as that vertical 3" piece spins inside the 1 inch to 1/2 fitting i tried to put vaseline on the ends and not much diff, so wondering if you maybe sanded those ends or something to let it spin a bit more freely
***** ok never mind, i found that the piece i was using was a little long so the ends were binding on that lip inside the 1/2" to 1" fitting, i cut a bit off so that the ends do not touch that inner lip inside that fitting and now it moves nice, no noise or binding.. :)
iowa chapman Oh, wait, hold on. Great question, actually. The 3" long 1/2" piece does not turn in the 1" to 1/2" fitting. The 1" to 1/2" fitting turns in the 1" 90 degree fitting. If you don't push that fitting in all the way, it fits together loosely. Add a little Vaseline or grease there. The 3" long 1/2" piece SHOULD be a tight fit in the 1" to 1/2" fitting. at 1:09, watch the lettering on the 1" to 1/2" fitting very carefully and you will see it turn. No wonder it was squeaking. Make sense?
Grin I think I got the same result by having that 1/2 inch size a bit shorter so it just barely goes into that 1" to 1/2" downsize fitting, it was rotating with no noise, the real test will be tomorrow when i get a power supply that should power the wiper motor, if this one dont work I will have to order from monster guts, and pay shipping ugh, this one is regulated, 12vdc 5a and has 3 prongs, first one i ordered on amazon did not have 3 prong and it was stuttering on high speed. I sent message had a feeling it was related to that power supply and they said yeah your power supply is the issue. Found one on amazon with prime so will know tomorrow. Thanks for reply
Oh yeah, I am using your version here for upper and then used those pvc from spider hill to do legs for lower standing swaying zombie.
iowa chapman So you haven't had power to run the motor yet? Hmmmm. With a loose fitting between the 3" long 1/2" piece and the 1" to 1/2" fitting, my concern for you is that it either binds (and, trust me, that can really tear things up) or it comes loose when you apply torque from the motor. You should let it run for a couple of hours to make sure. But ya know, with these things there really is no right or wrong way. We expect a vid on your finished prop. Thanks for watching and following. I enjoy the dialog.
How do u get power to operate this motor
I connected a 12volt 5amp dc power supply (www.frightprops.com/controllers-electronics/power-cables-and-transformers/dc-power-supplies-0726.html) to the wiper motor and plugged it in to an extension cord. It connects using a male and female terminal connector: www.frightprops.com/male-power-supply-adapter-with-screw-terminals.html. To have it trigger when someone walks by, add a motion sensor. You can see how to do that in my "Haunted House Sound System" video: ua-cam.com/video/kgbCJzd7Oys/v-deo.html
how do you attach the shaft to the spine? You really don't show how
There is a long screw attached to the top of the shaft. It does not attach to the PVC spine, but rather goes into the inside of the PVC and guides it in a circular motion. Advance the video to 2:22.

Any tips for reducing the noise from the motor and pvc?
I just kinda left my stuff noisy. It adds to the creepiness. WD40 or bicycle lube on the PVC maybe? Windshield wiper motors are a bit noisy, so enclose it in a box maybe?
Thanks so much! This turned out a pretty cool build! I added some legs and did a spray foam coal fired look. But I watched this video so many times and it helped a ton!
Tim Kline Awesome! I am so glad to hear that. What some “not in the biz” don’t understand is that these are homemade and very difficult to design and build. It’s a great day when you figure something out and make it work. That’s why I made the videos. Congrats on your build.
why are you buying the pvc pieces from that website, can you not just get those from Lowe's or Home Depot?
iowa chapman Good question. The 1" Universal Mounting Bases used in the video are not available in local stores. Home improvement stores may have alternatives (including other PVC fittings or metal threaded flanges), but I didn't find anything that would work as well. At $2 a piece plus minimal shipping, they are still reasonably priced. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Ok cool, I saw some cool stuff on the site and was like ok what's different about the t's. Good video thanks for response. Where you getting wiper motor from? Monster guts.com?
iowa chapman frightprops. I've bought many things from them because they have excellent products as well as tutorial videos, product manuals, and customer service. I've emailed them questions before buying and they were very helpful. I haven't bought anything from mosterguts but I understand they are equally reputable. You can't go wrong either way.
Ahh yes familiar with that site too. Sure wish the picaboo and the controllers would come down in price :)
Awesome video and channel! I hit the red button! Come support a fellow haunter and check out my channel!
