That and his personality of wanting to fight for the minority. I think he doesn't really actually hate all non-sorcerers, he just doesn't want sorcerers to have to sacrifice and live such bleak lives.
(spoiler warning) in his defence, curses will kill people, and only curse users can defeat those curses. regular people are entirely defenceless to curses, and so curse users are basically sacrificial lambs for the good of "wider society" aka non-curse users. Geto realized this as well after seeing that Haibara was killed that they do very dangerous jobs which often times cuts their lives short, even for special grade users (look at what happened to nanami). There is no such thing as retirement for curse users, they are commanded to exorcise literally until they are disabled and can no longer fight (Todo) or die (many characters).
I think Geto is the reason why Yaga tests a person’s motivation for becoming a Jujutsu sorcerer. He knows that people with lofty, noble and impersonal aspirations like Geto can crack, while people like Megumi, Maki and Nobara who all have more selfish and personal goals aren’t likely to stray too far from their goal.

Another thing that I thought really helped pushed Suguru over the edge was finding out from Yuki that they already had another star plasma vessel ready for Tengen, so the fact that Riko died didn't matter, which just further proved that everything he and Gojo went through ultimately ended up being meaningless as Riko's life was treated as nothing more than a commodity by the higher ups of jutusu too.

One of the best things in jjk is that the world does not revolve around one man only but what makes the story really strong is by backing it up with other persons pov not just in one man's perspective and not with some half-baked backstory, i mean everything really makes sense and believable like how can you tell whether what perspective is correct or justified
Yeah love that about Kaisen, they still focus a lot on Yuji but give good chunks the story to make side or supporting characters be focal characters (hidden inventory arc, perfect prep, JJk 0 and culling games).
I love how GeGe fleshed him out like an actual human being. If you were in his shoes and saw so many sorcerers dying pointless deaths for ignorant people, you'd walk down the same path too. I firmly believe him defecting is a key influence in Gojo wanting to create a better Jujutsu society. Suguru just wanted a better way of life for sorcerers, and if that meant a sacrificing some humans along the way, then so be it.
another aspect of geto's descent was seeing Haibara, his junior who had so much joy and personality, had died after he had gone on a mission that was above his pay grade. It was said at the start of jjk that it was common for higher-ups to send students to exorcise curses even when they were above their grade because of the shortage of sorcerers (woah i wonder why). it's kind of the lead off from where he was going "exorcise, consume"- a grueling job without an end. Haibara's death made him realise that there genuinely was no end, that the end for most sorcerers is usually death, disability if they are lucky, generally at a young age. And these sorcerers died in the line of "protecting" non-sorcerers, not themselves or their own way of life. mimiko and nanako was the spark because it culminated his feelings of "we're totally disposable in this thankless job" and turned them into a realization that those people who he was protecting, who his friends had died to protect, ultimately saw them as subhuman. I think i would lose it too ngl
“The strong must protect the weak” is all well and good, but if the strong must sacrifice everything for uncaring people, all the while feeling like they are slaves that *MUST* sacrifice their own hopes and dreams for those uncaring people? There’s only one way that’s going to end.
I think you missed two wery important key-reasons of Getos downfall. 1.Right after the mission he learned that there already was a new vessel for Tengen. Of course we, as the readers, know that there wasn't a new vessel, but to Geto at the time that fake knowledge made it seem like all their suffering with struggles and Rikos whole existence and death were meaningless. 2. After their failed mission a power gap between Gojo and Geto apeared. That means that now Gojo doesnt need help of Geto to exorsist spirits and he can go to missions alone. As a result, they spend less and less time together. That is proven by the fact that Gojo imediatly noticed that something was off with Geto. If they spend more time together they could talk about Getos doubts and changing worldview BEFORE the point of no return.

The thing I find fascinating about the characters of Sensui and Getou is that they were originally masters with a duty to protect humanity from evil. But had there world views completely shattered when they saw that in the end the very humans they swore to protect were even more evil than the evils they fought against. Really makes you wonder which is more evil. A demon who has only known evil as it’s nature. Or a human who knows what’s right and wrong, but makes the choice to do evil anyway.
Same, he is my favourite after Yuji. I especially love the fact about Geto that you can relate so much to him and honestly, I can't view him as a villain when I look at his motives because they are reasonable to me, I would have snapped in his place too. He is not this kind of stupid villain who is just evil because he loves being evil or something like that- Geto instead actually is an extremely intelligent person which is why he even came to questioning the entirety of his life as a sorcerer. His actions are morally wrong, but if we are honest, humans and also the higher ups also act morally wrong way too many times without consequences. Geto was opening my eyes to the gruesomeness of the world he grew up in, I really feel sad about the way everything went down
One of the most interesting characters I had chance to see, such amazing questions were asked trough his character and showed way more depth in JJK then ever before, chapter 77 is probably one of my top 10 chpaters ever read just because of Geto and his amazing development in it.
I can't help but wonder what would have happened to Getou if Gojo had been on campus when Yuki showed up that night. Part of me thinks that if he hadn't had all that behind him before he went to rescue Mimiko and Nanako, maybe he would have simply knocked out those people in the village that had been guarding them and taken them back to the school with him. Maybe if he hadn't been raised feeling so alone all his life before being thrown into the world of chaos that is jujutsu sorcery, maybe he would have been able to confide in his one and only dearest friend a little more. Personally, as a writer who thinks a lot about the possibilities with storylines, I'm particular to the idea of "if he'd shown up with these girls and spilled his heart out to Gojo, they would have both been on a different path than either of them ended up pursuing canonically." I think that Getou would have been a prime choice to be a counsellor or therapist of some sort at Jujutsu Tech. Not only for students, but for other sorcerers. Gojo speaks often of how sorcery is an "individual sport" and to me that says that even the adult sorcerers have a lot of baggage they need to unpack. But also I think if anyone knows a thing or two about trauma from a young age that comes with being a sorcerer, it would be Getou. Anyway, I love him and am constantly thinking about and missing him so very dearly umu
i've always thought if Geto didn't "snap" in that village killing everyone and Gojo was with him, he'd probably still have left Jujutsu Tech with the girls because the system was already very flawed in his eyes. but he could have started some sort of shelter for sorcerers in the countryside - saving them, teaching them how to control their powers but without the need to risk their lives for non-sorcerers. I'm sure Gojo would have supported him. Gojo would have still tried to fix the system from the inside the way he's been doing in the canon and Geto would have saved sorcerers outside the system. and they would have occasionally helped each other. the good ending 🥲
You know what this video great? The fact that he started by referencing one of the best Joker stand alone comics ever written. Killing Joke is my favorite Batman story of all time.
Author has strong dislike towards cultists and conservative groups... Two times in story we saw mindless cultists commiting unspeakable evil acts. Not even noticing their own actions. Same with Zenin family, that were borderline cult themselves. So narrow minded that didn't notice their evil actions.
@@tremassicotte3172 nah he is definately like this. Almost all main characters have strong sense of freedom. It's pretty common in most of shounen series. @@monavity To be fair, Gege haven't delve deeper into Kenjaku yet. There are still mysteries around him while Getou was already an established character.
Regarding the Hasaba twins [MANGA SPOILERS] It's a damn shame that they died without ever meeting the main cast. Being Geto's kids, they have a lot of potential to the story to learn about what Geto once stood for and leave something for Gojo to remember him by. Having a tormented curse user learn to see the world in a brighter way could be its own spinoff.
I’m surprised nobody thought of the similarities of Geto and Mogamett from Magi. They both once had an belief that Sorcerers/magicians were made to help people. They both went through multiple horrible and terrible events in their life that made them question their beliefs and make them go rogue. They both hate non-sorcerers/magicians. They both want a world where their kind and live and prosper. Like bro if these guys meet they would be besties
The most ironic part of Geto's character is that he was the one who convinced Gojo not to massacre the Time Vessel Association and prevented him from going down the exact same path he would would later spiral down into. He saved Gojo but ended up losing an ally who could have helped him realize his dream of a Sorceror's paradise.
This is so cool. Love how you break down the finer details of the character, from their name to personality and also include images of important scenes.
He is JJK's version of YYH's Sensui. The only difference is that Sensui didn't have that anti-human sentiment prior to seeing Chapter Black while Geto always had that non-sorcerer disdain - he just outright denied them in his head until his discussion with Yuki made him realize that he can embrace it.

i've always thought if Geto didn't "snap" in that village killing everyone and Gojo was with him, he'd probably still have left Jujutsu Tech with the girls because the system was already very flawed in his eyes. but he could have started some sort of shelter for sorcerers in the countryside - saving them, teaching them how to control their powers but without the need to risk their lives for non-sorcerers. I'm sure Gojo would have supported him. Gojo would have still tried to fix the system from the inside the way he's been doing in the canon and Geto would have saved sorcerers outside the system. and they would have occasionally helped each other. the good ending 🥲
@@valeriyav2149This could be an awesome alternate universe timeline.
@@valeriyav2149”If you’d like to become someone new, go North. If you’d like to return to who you once were, go south.”
You know what this video great? The fact that he started by referencing one of the best Joker stand alone comics ever written. Killing Joke is my favorite Batman story of all time.
Geto’s ability really reminds me of Soul Eater, defeating and eating their essence to gain power
Except Soul’s consumption wasn’t disgusting.
Finding out that is the weak who cause the same problems that affect them and seeing all the suffering they have to go throught is what made him snap.
First time I’m hearing someone pronounce Gege as “geegee”
Kenjaku as 'kenjuku' as well
@@Satepin yes, it’s very ironic as the person who is also breaking down the kanji of characters names lol
Author has strong dislike towards cultists and conservative groups...
Two times in story we saw mindless cultists commiting unspeakable evil acts. Not even noticing their own actions.
Same with Zenin family, that were borderline cult themselves. So narrow minded that didn't notice their evil actions.
I don't think the author is like that
@@tremassicotte3172 nah he is definately like this.
Almost all main characters have strong sense of freedom.
It's pretty common in most of shounen series. Where characters have to confront authoritarian society in which they were born.
However, characters like Gojo or Nobara go further than that. They are not afraid to punch in the nose their parents or any authoritarian figure that would try to force their values onto them.
@@tremassicotte3172 It's also connected with one incident that happened in Japan.
As one cultists group Aum Shinrikyo commited terrorist attack leaking poisonous gas in japanese subway in 1995.
@@travistouchdown3822 personally, i think the author has a particular disdain towards "powerful conservatives elder rulers"-archetype. This is why he portrays the elders higher ups and Zen'in clans as some loathsome corrupt assholes, from wanting to kill Yuuji and Yuuta simply because of their circumstances, or Maki gets beaten down and continuously belittles depites her amazing talents.
This is maybe a weird stretch, but in a way the authors probably trying to gives a huge middle fingers to Japan's societal structure as a whole. Basically, he pulled "fuck you old mans, i do what i want, fuck your rules and traditions".
@@travistouchdown3822 which is hilarious cuz facsist types love shounens, yet they dont understand this lol
Basically Geto's life story: I had an identity crisis and became a cult leader
Hitler
Basically sums it up alright 😂
I love how Geto and Gojo somewhat trade ideals after amanai’s death.
Really wished we got more interaction between him and his family/team
Geto better come back to the story, he's too interesting just to be dead like that.
Yeah i found him more interesting than that brain. I will be so mad if he doesnt come back.
@@monavity To be fair, Gege haven't delve deeper into Kenjaku yet. There are still mysteries around him while Getou was already an established character.
@@monavityYou find him more interesting than _the_ back-shot taker?!?!?
He’s easily one of my favourite characters and I didn’t want him to fall in to darkness but you could see it coming and it’s hard to see
Exactly 2 years since this analysis came out, and it’s interesting how we are currently in hidden inventory arc and are seeing Geto’s fall.
I’ve been waiting for this. Geto imo has one of the most layers in jjk
Regarding the Hasaba twins [MANGA SPOILERS]
It's a damn shame that they died without ever meeting the main cast. Being Geto's kids, they have a lot of potential to the story to learn about what Geto once stood for and leave something for Gojo to remember him by. Having a tormented curse user learn to see the world in a brighter way could be its own spinoff.
Theres gonna be a shit ton of curse users in the culling games so thats could easily be explored.
Thing is the world isnt so forgiving and kind especially among curses
@@itsjustvin7630 people with cursed techniques are still cursed individuals
@@gabrielvalenzuela4722 and the world doesnt care about that. More especially Sukuna doesnt care about your sob stories

You deserve a like for even bringing up such underrated character of an underrated series
Geto is literally a devil summoner
this video helped me understand the more inctricacies of his ideals, thank you
He realized that he was protecting people from the problems those people cause
Two different people. I feel bad for Gojo because he couldn't save his best friend.
Im gonna be honest here since the 2 season is going on, Geto is probably my favorite character ngl.
Geto is a great character and very underrated!
I just binged the whole series in two days.......it was good shit.
Junji ito would be so proud seeing getos power
Jjk movie trailer made me happy, then this came and now i can see how great this day was.
what I love of jujutsu kaisen is the battles the strategy different types of power clashing I mean in that sentence and blood manipulation vs someone like idle transfiguration
Hope for a Toji video, either glory or perfection. The dude is just badass
“Viewed himself as superior”? He is objectively superior.
Considering Geto was based on shinobu sensui, and Chrollo Lucilfer was as well, so perhaps they are inspirational brothers
Love suguru geto's character! serious flexin 🔥☠️
Your analysis videos are so goos, I love how informed you are and how deeply you look into the source material. Going as far as to breakdown the characters names and meanings is so cool. Love your videos, keep it up!!
The simplest, most funny, and most generalized way to describe Geto’s powers is “Nate from Yokai-Watch”. I have no idea why, but that just popped into my head and I wanted to share it 🤣
I swear one of the biggest reasons I catch up with manga (or in Demon Slayer's case, finish it) is to hear your perspective. You never fail to make me think of the characters or settings of a story in a new light. Thank you.
Love the chad toji call out
I really liked the thumbnail. Also there’s been a nice quality to all of your videos, really been enjoying them all.
what i love about jujutsu kaisen is that they really wear their inspirations on their sleeve
I always thought he was like magneto. But sensui is a good comparison.
You absolutely need to do more videos on Jujutsu Kaisen
His ability is basically a pokemon trainer
*demon summoning program
Shin megami tensei but you eat demons
Cool video. It was well organized and gave a lot of depth without going too far.
It’s Ash Ketchum
You know guys geto was already dead before turning a complete villain being possessed by an evil sorcerer who is responsible for the 9 curse wombs by taking Kamo’s identity and doing the same with geto’s body.
I always viewed Geto similar to an SMT character. Amazing video once again meti
Easily one of the coolest characters in jjk
The earlier concepts and ideology of geto and gojou just swapped.
Cuz in the flashback they had opposing concepts and then their concepts swap.
If there's ever a good reason to bring actual Geto back, he'd be a beast for the good guy's side
The relationship between gojo and geto kinda reminds me of obito and Kakashi not exactly the same but very similar
Naruto is mediocore trash
@@dhimankalita1690 okay 👌
Could not be more different, except for the hair and stuff ... Obito was a SIMP ... I mean decide the world is shit at age 10 because your girlfriend was murder AND GETO an adult with a mind set of survival of the fittest ... So no
@@omeletufomash bruh he literally said that rin wasn't the reason he did any of the stuff in the shinobi war

Geto has some crazy mouth game, the size of the orbs he compresses curse spirits into is roughly the same as a Billiard ball.
4:24 nrver expected to see HONG MEILING of all characters in a Jujutsu Kaisen video-
Do The Beauty of Meti『Not The Bad Guy』
You’d have to wait for that. I don’t have much information about Meti to make this possible.
Another banger video as always
simply geto is the kindest and he care alot about other people and people who are weak instead of putting himself first so gradually he realize how evil the people and the world is so he turn evil as he was disappointed of and hate the weak who he used to think he have to protect and only he care about are the one who killed riko and many others
Geto’s such an upsetting character when you notice the change live
We now finally know what Gojo said to Geto in his final moments. It’s “We’ll meet again (right?)”
as stated in the opening of season 2
Meti, the name is Ken-Ja-Ku, not Ken-Ju-Ku.
When I read the Hidden Inventory arc all the pieces clicked about Suguru, i don't agree at any level with his philosophy but i understood why he fell at that path, for starters the revelation of how his jutsushiki worked was a major red flag about his mental health, even before Rika's death he must already have been feeling the effects of absorbing so many curses.
You know after shibuya and the shit that yuji went through i wouldn't be surprised if he became like geto
His tips on escape yokai work pretty
Tried the your average trick on the yuki ona and a current running for my life
8/10
Geto proves that Japan really should (and USA too) start taking mental healthcare seriously.
I’d honestly want Getou’s technique, I get to swallow balls AND control curses? I’m sold
Ohhh so Geto doesn't necessarily hate non-sorcerers just because theyre weak. He hates humanity because the ones sorcerers are trying to protect are really also just monsters on their own.
Quoting Joker, peak society
You make very good videos. The constant and consistent ending is also impressive

Do videos on Mistral and Monsoon. Oh and Senator Armstrong. I wanna learn more about those characters after your videos on Jetstream Sam and Sundowner.
