They were expelled because their religious beliefs differed from that of the other colonists. It’s never explicitly stated, but based on how they worship, live, and talk, it’s a safe bet they were some kind of Calvinist, scriptural literalists who often clashed with more “moderate” Protestant denominations in the colonies, and even up to the civil war.
I’ve watched this film about 100 times and have never heard a witch eat the twins. Tell me where so I can go back and hear it. That would be a cool touch!
Ralph Ineson (the dad) was also in game of thrones! He played the ironborn captain that Theon raid winterfell with, who tuen betrays him to the Boltons
I saw this movie at a theater when it came out. It's been my #1 favorite horror movie of all time. By the time Black Phillip was done talking, I heard two people crying inside the theater room. It was insane. I was so happy I didn't go in stoned.
This is a really great movie tbh. It's one of my favorites as well ;) It's perfect for spooky season and it speaks to me about hysteria and mass religious trauma (I have experience in this lmao). A theory is that the corn rotted with ergot, which can give LSD-like effects and can cause hallucinations and even death. Each person in the family may also represent a sin; The father is pride, the wife is wrath, the son is lust, the twins are Sloth. Thomasin.....Idk. Maybe greed because she gives in to the devil's temptations. The old english was also taken from actual literature during that time. The people who made this movie researched the HELL out of that time period. It's so well shot, acted and cast. It's so amazing, and when I think of a witch I think of THIS. The witches also used to be associated with Rabbits instead of cats. And I think the witches need Young blood to keep themselves youthful. It's crazy good. Awesome reaction, guys! :D
Thank you so much, this one stayed with me for awhile, also fantastic theory there. I didn’t think of the family as sin, but you might be onto something there!
I’m so glad this movie portrayed witch lore in that light simply because it’s the same lore my mom and my grandparents believed in. In my mom’s little town a lot of normal people would go crazy & it was believed that witchcraft was done on them. Also a bloody or gray yolk egg was seen as bad. There were also rumors about people turning into animals. My brother in law was driving late at night in the country side & there was a n*ked woman on the side of the road walking back and forth and when she turned her face she was sinister looking. His friend was with him in the car and he couldn’t talk because he was in shock from seeing her face
@@ReelReviewHQ Yes! It’s an interesting mix of found footage type and traditional film. It’s creative, a bit of a slow burner but not much. Leaves you feeling very uncomfortable. Not too many reactors do it unfortunately! Dark Skies has Keri Russel, JK Simmons. It’s really good, also disturbing.
When I saw this movie for the first time it never occurred to me that people would have difficulty understanding what they were saying. Is that why you guys were talking so much? First video of yours I've seen so I'm just asking, not trying to be rude. The times when you understood and were paying attention were good. Funny at times. Glad you liked it, though. It's definitely a masterpiece. I'll have to look at your other videos. Thanks for posting 😁 👍
I love this movie. Sending you back to a time where there was absolutely NOONE to help. Isolation, desperation, impending doom that WILL ARRIVE no matter what you do. The twins were so cute and actor selection was spot on.
Oh, my sweet summer child… thou arts too funny! “Goat, don’t coven with the kids… kids, don’t coven with the goat!” You do know that a baby goat is called a kid, right?! ✨🤣✨ I LOVE this film. What made it extra scary to me is that the story and script are from actual writings of that time. They didn’t just make it up, black Phillip helped. Yes, old crones would go from home to home to steal babies and bathe in the baby fat to make them young again. This would make them the first “Avon calling!” Ladies. Witches used all kinds of animals, but this one chose a rabbit to be her familiar, not a black cat (cliche,) so she always knew what that family was doing. The witch knew that Caleb had promised his mother he would find her an apple to help raise her spirits. That is why he chocked up an apple after loosing his virginity to the witch. Thomasin knew so much about witches when she was playing with the twins because it was basically beaten into their heads. Every form of wickedness is constantly talked about, and they had to beg God’s forgiveness constantly around the clock. Back then, a man was stoned to death because he picked up a stick in front of his house on the Sabbath. Picking up the stick was considered work. (True story.) This film also gets to me on a personal level. I was the only one out of six kids that was born in a city. My mom left us and my dad for another man. One night when dad was at work on the graveyard shift, mom came and kidnapped me, my brother and two sisters. She took us into the deep woods of Northeast Texas. We had a house with no electricity, no water, and we had an outhouse. We had to chop wood in the fall to use in a cast iron stove. We worked in the fields and hauled hay. I lived in constant fear that all of these bad things happening to me was because I was being punished for sinning. I prayed to get back to the city where I belonged. Instead I got to be tormented by redneck children, molested and tied to a tree and set on fire. Oh, yeah I forgot… I was gay. Oops! But I never stopped my prayers and held my strong belief in God. Just like these fine folks in VVitch! You can see why I really love this film. I feel right at home! 🙄😑 Thanks for watching this. I’m watching your reaction on Halloween and this is the perfect film for it!
I really enjoy your tone, but it feels like you treat every instance of dialogue as a chance to talk…about anything and everything. You miss so much. So while you’ve reacted to occasional scenes, you haven’t actually experienced the movie. Which is why you’re so often uncertain about what’s happening. (Since you’re not “watching live,” you could absolutely pause the film when you want an extended discussion.)

“Where are the twins?” The witch ate them off screen, you can hear it
Oh god! I didn’t hear that !!!

I’m gonna have nightmares now thank you 🙏 lol, freaky!!!
If you loved this, watch Robert Eggers The Lighthouse
That’s a perfect recommendation, I just bought a sweater and proclaimed this winter I was living my best lighthouse keeper life. 😂😂
@@ReelReviewHQ it’s got Eddie twilight in it!
what's that?!
Ooh! The Fourth Kind is a fun one, along with Dark Skies!
I’ve heard the Fourth Kind is really freaky, is that the one with Mila Jov?

really fun watching you guys react to this amazing film. I'm looking forward to you all making your way to The Lighthouse and Midsommar.
Those are 100% on the list!
Recommendations for atmospheric horror: Psycho (1960), The Others, Annihilation, Naked Lunch, Hereditary.
Hell yeah! All good options.
great recs! I'll also add 3 Women (1977).
😮In real life the goat sent Inneson to the emergency room wit broken ribs.
Damn that goat, he really is a little devil!

Nail on the head, the scene where they are riding out on the cart in the very beginning just filled us with dread. Utterly alone.
It's not a rabbit. It's a hare.
6:56 that was the funniest question for some reason 😂
Is she churning that baby!?!? lol yea out of context that’s an insane question
Great reaction! Got a sub from me.
Another great movie: Black Swan
Thank you so much for the Sub, it means the world!! Is black swan Ari Aster too?
@@ReelReviewHQ It’s Darren Aronofsky
Ahhh that’s right, he’s got a vibe to his films as well
