If you guys want, I can continue tomorrow with an examination of the government and leaders of each faction!
Maybe you could do the intelligence systems too? Spies, political police, saboteurs and all that? Although I think that's a tad more complicated than raw navies and armies, it could be interesting.
Do it
JUST DO IT!
EckhartsLadder sounds cool
A vehicle video would be very interesting
The main fighters of the Empire were never... adequate... for the propose they served. That’s why I recommended to the Emperor that more resources be put into the Tie-Defender program. Unfortunately the Emperor never... agreed with my logic.
Grand Admiral Thrawn And the XG-1 Gunboat program as well Admiral?
The Empire should have continued with the doctrine of the Republic. Versatile capital ships, filled with high quality fighters, and high quality soldiers. The Rebels never would have stood a chance.
the assault gunboats where really much better then the tie bomber and it was when you get down to it an imperial shuttle upgrade so it could also carry a lot of troops into battle. the interceptors did their job well much better then the normal TIE. plus they where design to have a hyper drive and shield to be easily installed if needed the Defender blow every other fighter out of the water in basically every department (even a 100 years after the empires fall in legends) but never got the funding to bring down costs or make to many of them to get out of the prototype phase. i feel that replacing the imperial shuttle and TIE bomber with the assault gunboats and the normal TIE's with Interceptors(with a single squad of defenders on a imperial class) would have been much better then making the failed death star over and over again.
even upgrading the imperial class with anti fighter weapons would have helped as they where fighting a foe who mainly attacked with advanced groups of fighters as their main attacking power. you also have the TIE phantom but it's main advantage was it's cloak (alongside it being able to run for 2 weeks without support alongside already having a shield and hyper drive as standard). as the interceptor beat it in weapons ( 4 blaster cannon to the phantoms 3) and speed (the only fighter able to out run a interceptor was a defender). with about the same armour with the phantom being bigger. and of course it was rare they where deployed as they didn't want the rebels to get the tech to cloak their in most cases better fighters
You dare defy the empire? Dont make me destroy you admiral...
You cant destroy him if we get to him first...
Even though the CIS used mainly droid starfighters, they also used quite some fighter classes that were piloted by organics. Like the Rogue-class starfighter, the Belbullab-22 starfighter, the Nantex-class starfighter and the Umbaran starfighter for example.
Thunder And Guillon i wanted to say the same as he clearly oversimplificated the CIS' starships composition
Besides the Tri fighter was a beast like the one he said he wished the CIS has
@@juancruzmarolda7726 tri fighters an interceptor. Seriously is everyone in this comment section a bunch of dumbasses?
A couple of these are relegated to specific factions within the CIS like the Nantex and Umbaran crafts. The Vulture droid and Trifighter were by far the most numerous
One advantage of the X-wing that is often overlooked: It's hyperspace capable, meaning they can operate independently of a carrier craft. They can jump into an engagement, do some damage and jump out before the empire can scramble fighters or call in reinforcements. It's really a shame that the alliance never took advantage of that (at least not in the films).
im pretty sure they did but it was probably just some small skirmishes
@@ygotsvlog3762 I mean it's a shame they didn't show it in one of the movies.
*cough first deathstar cough*
@@ragesquit5415 They didn't use hyperspace to reach the first deathstar, though. They just went around Yavin Prime.
Buy it also made it heavier more expensive and harder to maintain
1. Reb. 2. CIS 3. Rep. 4. Empire.
Droidds cost, no training, upgraded via WiFi, and do not tire. But otherwise agree. Beautiful work my Friend.
Also the Vulture Droid is amazing and I am really biased to them. (Plus swarm tactics).
I like the vultures since they are mass production done right
I knew the X-Wing was my favorite starfighter in Star Wars for good reasons. Plus the fact it has a hyperdrive means you can send in a squadron attack a target and flee into hyperspace before the Imperials respond with TIE Fighters.
Love your comment. X wing for life 🖐💚💙❤💛
Best and worst special forces including force users, logistics, infrastructure, popular support and soft power, means relative to goals, and other "intangibles" such as luck and/or the Force.
Arashmickey
That would go:
1. The Republic, due to Arc Troopers, Clone Commandos, and of course Jedi.
2. The Rebellion, they're built on asymmetrical warfare, so their special forces had to be incredible to do the things they needed to do.
3. The CIS. Commando droids, Magnaguards, dark side adepts. They had a variety of powerful units.
4. The Empire. An entire legion of their "best troops" lost to teddy bears with sticks.
imperial special forces weren't just stormtroopers. they had things like storm commandos, and (in canon) inferno squad, and (in legend) the varying hands of the emporer, like Mara Jade before she married some farm kid.
Yeah, that would be cool to get into more detail. I actually meant special military forces but also spies, diplomats, scientists and engineers, etc. Just trying to fill in areas that haven't been covered.
*T H A T ' S T H E P O I N T S E A R G E A N T*
If including legends: Rebels get Katarn Commandos, Paige's Commandos, Winter (aka Targeter), Rogue Squadron (fighter squadron that occasionally did spec ops and commando operations, so successful that operating on their own they managed to take down or capture several star destroyers, and force an executor class to surrender.
i think federation got best star fighter, no biological pilot in it means it can pull extreame G's make sharp turns ect
Even though that's a big advantage, droids are often times dumb in star wars.
Manouverability isn't the only factor in making a good star fighter and good shielding and weapons are arguably more important for individual fighters.
The crazy manouverability of cis starfighters is also a bit overkill, since most of the fighters are far to dumb to make use of it.
@@tablesalt4029 yeah but a droid can be replaced in minutes, a clone or human takes lot longer

Once again, love the video. This time, I have no complaints or disagreements with your ranking. I feel obliged to point out that part of the reason for the lack of star fighters for the Empire was due to the Empire's focus on capital ships and the resources that were required both for Star Destroyers and for the Death Star itself.
thanks for letting me edit!

Freighttrain excellent editing, loved it!
Very cool and funny editing :) thumbs up for you!

Another potentially massive advantage of droid piloted fighters, bombers, and interceptors is that droids can pull maneuvers that a living pilot couldn't do, or even not be able to survive doing, like turns and such with really high g forces.
I think that the republic had the best star fighters. The ARC-170 is an especially useful fighter, with heavy weapons, rear turret, and relatively high speed.
Blitzkrieg Gamer I would agree, but this isn't just about the fighters themselves. It's about how well their force was designed.
In that regard the fighters are very well designed for large fleet based combat, useful for attacking and defending capital ships.
not true. The ARC-170 was incredibly powerful, and even considered to be elite craft in legends where it was used by both the rebellion and Imperial forces. It fits in very well with the hit and run tactics employed by the rebellion, as it's heavy weapons and class 1 hyper drive allow it to jump in, hit hard, then jump out.
disadvantage was you needed 3 crew member instead of the x-wings 1.
I have not talked about TIEs at all, however i agree with most of your statements. The ARC-170 was in fact more advanced and more powerful than almost all but the most advanced TIE variants. The only advantage a TIE has against an ARC is it's speed. The laser cannons you speak of are not the average TIE cannons, and rarely ever saw use, as the TIE series was mainly focused on quantity instead of quality. The weaponry most used on TIE ships are L-s7.2 laser cannons, not the SFS Ls 9.3's.
This does not mean i find the TIE series to be inadequate. The standard TIE fighter was an excellent close quarters dog fighter, albeit suffering from a lack of shielding. The TIE bombers are able to carry immense bomb loads, and were excellent against most hard targets, excluding MC-80s and other heavy capital ships, where as the ARC-170 or X-wing star fighter were only moderately effective against light cruisers and smaller ships. The TIE defender is my personal favourite variant, boasting heavy weapons and shields.
Something I think is often overlooked with the empire's decision to keep with the standard TIE is pilot training. There was no need to teach astronavigation, long term life support management, shield management, or any of the intricacies required to stay in a fighter for long periods of time. Most of the advantages of the TIE defender only apply if the pilot knows how to use it properly.

EckhartsLadder which had the best force users?
EckhartsLadder Could we do another halo/star wars versus, maybe this one including the elites
The N1 starfighter. Well armored. Twin rapid fire guns mounted on nose, hyperdrive, shields, torpedos, Astrodroid equipable and downright beautiful.
But that’s only for Naboo…
@@LJChannn334 Naboo pilots kind of sucked, too :|

Which faction had the best special forces?
Clone commandos, ARC troopers, etc.
Depends on if jedi count as special forces
Depends on the Jedi and their mission. We see Jedi being used as special forces in the Clone Wars series all the time. And Legends has dozens of examples of Jedi doing such missions.
For instance, Kenobi would count as an officer, but Quinlan Vos would be counted as spec-ops.
I3oo1Ve easily republic, the Jedi Temple guards along with expandable ranked clones makes for the best special forces
Thaddeus Beadle I'm agreeing with the above with the Republic winning the spec ops argument. CIS Commando Droids can and will be beaten by any clone spec ops. We've seen Cut (the clone deserter) take down a large number of commando droids by himself, mentioning the fact that he was out of combat for a while and that he was more or less the average clone trooper. With the Empire spec ops I'd still pick the clone's spec ops over theirs although it can go either way.
its the 10th of december, you know battlefront does have these fighters too, and May the force be with you
Fleet battle between these 4 factions. Which faction do you think would win in a fleet on fleet engagement against each other and who would win overall? Rank these factions fleets on who would win. Say 10 capital ships each + about a half dozen smaller warships(destroyers and corvettes) + assorted support ship, all with a full fighter and bomber compliments.
Pretty please?
I think the empire will win cuz they have the strongest capital ships n dreadnaughts
True, but the heavy guns on those capital ships have blind spots and the ships can be easily outmaneuvered. And let's not forget the quality of the fighters. I think that any fight is really up for grabs.
Adam Chapman Wouldn't this likely end in a major battle between the republic and Empire? The Rebels mostly taking down the blind larger ships but they were weak overall.
actually guys wouldn't it come down to the republic and seperatisst becasue the rebels even with inferior numbers usually kick the crap out of isd's even with like 3 bombers (cough cough rouge one cough cough) and the republic and separatists have swarms of fighters lol (the venator carriers like 400 while the standard isd carries like 40 lol do the math, is 1 tie fighter worth 10 republic star fighters with clone pilots??? NO.)
Thyre Radim but cis capital ships couldn't stand up to them. For the rebels this isn't a hit and go engagement they will havevto deal with the swarms of all fighters as they take down isds. Their starfighters can only keep them in so long before their capital ships go down.
Happy to see Freight Train editting another one of your videos.

That funky stuff
JD Council rebellion did, more advanced versions of the same quality
The Republic was trying to rearm quickly at the beginning of the Clone Wars opening up bidding for corporations to build fighters and capital ships. Maybe that would explain the variety of fighters that they implemented.

could a star destroyer handle an invasion by the Thing in the 1982 movie.
Yes i very much want to see this one, the xenomorph video was good but the Thing is a whole another beast this match sounds like fun.
lets make this one happen
Do it. I enjoy watching watching the blood flow.
Well fire was it's greatest weakness and blasters are bolts of energy. So it would be an effective wepean though the Thing's cells would still survive. You would at least need a flamethrower to make sure it was dead.
I think you would need a wide spread blaster bolt to do any damage, all the plasma would do is go right through it and not affect the organism as a whole. Blasters would be ineffective and stormtrooper would have to use thermite detonaters to do any real damage.
I'd like to see a gunships compared video, maybe even with the UNSC?
I'd like the officer doge shirt
Keep up the great work!
Arc 170 is all I need
Alexiel Black x wings are good except they can't shoot down fighters tailing them like our wonderful arc 170
CIS Tri-Fighter I think you might wanna reconsider your decision.
wrong. Tri-Fighter doesn't have shit unless its given buzz droids.
It never hits anything with its rear facing emplacement.
Jason Barber always gets kills for me in Battlefront II
I'd like to see a redo on this video where you rank each factions fighters in each of the following-ish categories, followed by an overall:
1. Air (space?) Superiorty
2. Capital Ship Damage
3. Multirole
4. Planetary Support
Also, could you have talked about even a single droid fighter?
Personally I think the CIS had the absolute best vehicles.
for me its the empire

Tri fighter is the best star fighter ever
I agree with you one piece
Listening to “That Funky Stuff” is almost better than praising the sun...I’ve got to get my priorities together.
the republic did
By far and i think the clone wars Y-Wing was better since it had far better shields and armor plus a ion turret gunner vs the rebel y wing was flimsier and was only slightly more maneuverable. Also though a bit clunky i think the ark 170 was a space superiority fighter though an x wing have a advantage over it only due to its maneuverability but if the ark 170 was flown by a good pilot its heavy weapons would take care of a x wing in a few shots.
Mic Clank by
Didn't the rebels just throw the armor away because it made it harder to fix their Y-Wings? And not because of manouverability and speed?
Covalite the y-wing was a bomber and was much heavier
i think eck is using the technological advancement argument and really in this context it's like plot armor you can't refute it
Hands down, the Incom T65 Xwing Space Superiority Starfighter. Fast, agile, decently shielded, well armed, and like most Rebel fighting craft, can operate fairly independently. It can also serve as a personal base of operations for a Rebel pilot and his/her astromech operating alone in a ground mission.
cheap and expandable...

Expandable? 😏
I feel like you skimmed over the CIS a bit, not mentioning the Tri Fighter or Hyena Bomber, and the common, or at least more frequent, use of local fighter types like Umbaran or Geonosian fightercraft.
Besides, the Vulture Droid Starfighter is easily the coolest ship here. 😛
All that said, great video as always, and kudos to the guest editor!
Can you finish this up with a more comprehensive examination of overall military philosophy, and how well they use the tech they have?
The most common sf of the Republic were the V-19, ETA-2 and the V-Wings. Only 1 out 10 sf carried by the VEN were Arc-170 making it as rare as the Tie/In. Also the most common sf of the RA was the y-wing and z-95.

if you use Grand Admiral Thrawn for the Empire, Admiral Ackbar for Rebellion, use Admiral Trench for CIS and for the republic Admiral Yularen

fantastic video. i agree too, the x-wing was, in star wars terms, an engineering marvel. kind of the the p-51 of the star wars universe, it was perfect, and did everything it was supposed to do well and more.
you can try and do a "Best special forces" video. i would also suggest a "Best land vehicle", but you already covered that in the best army video. best officers/ generals would be a bit far fetched, but interesting never the less.

Maybe you could talk about which of these factions did have the best special ground forces? (Republic Commandos, Dark Troopers, Commando Droids etc.)
Haven't finished but already making a highly likely outcome that the empire is last

chris pearson it does I remember those games really well but yea I can remember playing the game and seeing a blue bubble when shot at and green bar on the target icon on the screen and it does confirm that on the wiki "has Deflector shields"
Ok, Eckharts, here's one for ya. You've done lists for just about every ship type, overall navy, leadership, weapons&equipment, etc. My question is: which 'FACTION' was the best overall. (A 10/10 list, if you will.) With all of the fore mentioned categories/ your previous videos stacked to build your case. If you were looking to join one of these factions or building your own faction based on one of them, who would it be?

The editing on this video is so crisp
I would say the Republic wins due to the ARC-170. You said that it would win in a 1o1 dogfight with an X-wing in your vs video, and this advantage is only exacerbated in an open battle situation, due to the heavier armor and rear-facing guns. Furthermore, republic fleet design philosophy allows them to deploy MORE of these starfighters, which are basically crossbreeds of superiority fighters, torpedo bombers, and gunships, taking almost all of the positives from these three classes with very few of the negatives. IMO I think you give the X-wing a bit too much credit in this video, especially in the context of your previous VS video.
I agree with you here. He said in the Navy video a few days ago that an Imperial Class Star Destroyer would beat a Venator class star destroyer because the Venator had less cannons. But in reality, especially against an Imperial-II style, a Venator would have a comfortable win in my opinion.
Real life has shown that carriers revolutionized naval combat. One battleship (Imperial-II Star Destroyer) cannot defend itself against dozens or hundreds of aircraft attacking at once. An Imperial-II with only 72 starfighters would have no chance standing against a Venator's full complement on 420 starfighters, many of which were bombers.
Eckharts even said in a previous video that the Imperial Class was vulnerable to starfighters.
I still call that complete bullshit, the things a big ugly target, the X-Wing would rip em apart.
Eck explains how the rear-facing gun would allow the ARC to beat the X-Wing. X-Wing basically has to get behind its target to win. ARC counters that with the rear gunner. Not to mention it is more armored and has more powerful forward-facing guns as well, in addition to a copilot AND an astromech who are able to aid the pilot. It's basically a compact gunship
The rear gunner would not be as effective as you would think, in real life that same train of thought was used while constructing WW2 heavy fighters. Yes the tech is more advanced in star wars but it still applies here. And if the rear gunner was so effective why didnt it help at the battle of coursacant. X-Wing still wipes the floor.
Literally watch Eck's X-wing vs ARC-170 video

I completely agree with the rankings. The Republic had deadly and well balanced fighters, but X-wings have to take the w. I also think that the separatists used what they had well.
I would love to see you do this kind of series for other factions, like from the Old Republic era. Keep up the great work!
You said that the Rebel Y-wings were a "subtle upgrade over the republic era vehicle" at 5:04 but I thought that the rebel Y-wings were the same, but had less armor due to the rebel alliance's inability to get their hands on replacement armor. Despite the lower weight, the Rebel Y-wings moved at the exact same speed as the republic ones. If I'm not mistaken, this means that the Rebel Y-wings were inherently worse. I could be forgetting any number of factors, as I've only read a few of the novels, so my knowledge base is extremely limited.
Your gameplay should actually go with the faction. The whole time you play on the same map, Rebels vs Empire even though you are talking about the Republic.
Why not show us gameplay of the ships you are talking about. Makes sense right? Or am i just asking for too much?
makes sense, will try to do if theres a next time

The republic and the rebels had the best starfighters.
Sort off.. point is that Empire did have good reason to use TIE's. TIE's have that gimmick that they could be easily dismantled and keep in thinner storage then other fighters. That way Stardestroyers could operate independently with fighter support. Rebels couldn't. They usually operate own fighters from bases what give them regional advantage but they still did need run from Imperial carriers caring good stuff like TIE Defenders and TIE Avengers what were even better then Rebel fighters, but empire couldn't use them if they didn't know that attack is coming.
+TheRezro, no not really the average isd carried about 40 ties and that is fucking nothing lol because they had literally no point defense whatsoever lols, and the rebels had fighters with hyperdrives that traveled with the fleet and they had lots of carriers so yah lol. And the defender was not better just on par and the avenger was close but no.
@Thyre Radim
What was the point of stating banal stuff irrelevant to the subject? Also TIE Defenders also did have hyperdrive and a shield, and they "lots of carriers" was one stolen form Empire and one they get after the war. That still doesn't change the fact that Empire did use carriers and equal superiority fighters, so they did have equal fighters (and claim that 40'ty fighters is nothing is so ridiculous that I literally ignore it, as half of that was usually whole forces of Rebels have). The reason why they couldn't use it efficiently was because Rebels jump from planet to planet, so they usually bump on more universal Star Destroyers paroling region, instead some serious forces.
+TheRezro, it was in response to *" That way Stardestroyers could operate independently with fighter support. Rebels couldn't."* I was just proving you wrong. Yes but the TIE Defenders were never used by anyone except for thrawn. It's like saying the millennium falcon was used by everyone and they had dozens of them. No all of the rebels ships had carrying capacity at least equal to that of an isd and no they had the quasar fire class carrier and lots of acclimator's and Lucerhulks from the clone wars lol. After the war they had hundreds of thousands of ships and they had several of their own lines of carriers. And the empire did not use carriers lol they were not used in tandom with isd's because the empire is stupid. And they did not have equal superiority fighters. And they were outnumbered a shit-ton. OMFG THEY CARRIED 40 ACTUAL TIE FIGHTERS THEN LIKE 1 SQUAD OF BOMBERS. THE REBELS HAD MOSTLY FIGHTERS AND THEY USUALLY HAD LIKE 90 AND THEY USE HIT AND RUN TACTICS DIPSHIT. Actually rebels do not jump from planet to planet they make a home base and then have all of their ships there lols and usually other than that they have self proclaimed rebels who are just militia on their home planets. And they had 25,000 isd's in total lols and 2 mil combat vessels in total your telling me with the billions upon billions of probe droids they have they couldn't find a rebels blase and blow it to shit. They do not have a serious force actually lol their most powerful mainline combat vessel is the is the imperial star destroyer (isd), and then they have their 11 ssd's (super star destroyers) many of which were tactically idiotic. The empire is honestly the worst faction in all of star wars history simply because they always lose to fighters because you know they didn't learn from world war 2.
@Thyre Radim
Then you miss my point. And my point is that Star Destroyers having small fighter squad on deck (even if inferior ones) could use them at any time. Rebel fighters could operate only in close range to they basses (hyperdrive have own limits) and most Rebels ship didn't have landing decks. That is simply a fact. Star Destroyers in general were standard get go patrol ships, so they were on first line of fight with Rebels. But presumption that Empire didn't have more legit fighter forces are mostly ignorant (also we do know that they have). They simply couldn't use it because Rebels avoid direct battles. I presume for obvious reasons.
"It's like saying the millennium falcon was used by everyone and they had dozens of them."
Wait.. so you don't know that it was a standard freighter? It was highly modified, but it wasn't uncommon sight (maybe outside that it was quite old).
"all of the rebels ships had carrying capacity at least equal to that of an isd and no they had the quasar fire class carrier and lots of acclimator's and Lucerhulks from the clone wars lol."
No they didn't. Maybe you forget but it was a Empire who was a Republic, not the Rebels. Most ships we really see are modified civilian freighters.
"After the war they had hundreds of thousands of ships and they had several of their own lines of carriers."
After war they weren't really a rebels anymore. So that doesn't count.
"And the empire did not use carriers lol they were not used in tandom with isd's because the empire is stupid."
Or because it is stupid to use capital ships to hunt local pirates and rebels. Star Destroyers were more then enough. Rebellion win only because Empire was designed to rely only on Palatine orders, and without him it end as most dictatorships usually do.
"And they did not have equal superiority fighters."
Defenders and Avengers were better. We only see X-wing's as OP because we watch story from perspective of ace pilots.. but in reality many x-wing pilots also did die whole time.
"OMFG THEY CARRIED 40 ACTUAL TIE FIGHTERS THEN LIKE 1 SQUAD OF BOMBERS. THE REBELS HAD MOSTLY FIGHTERS AND THEY USUALLY HAD LIKE 90 AND THEY USE HIT AND RUN TACTICS DIPSHIT."
I would not comment such dipshit comment.. 90'ty fighters probably was all what rebellion have. In which movie you see more then quarter of that?
"Actually rebels do not jump from planet to planet they make a home base and then have all of their ships there lols and usually other than that they have self proclaimed rebels who are just militia on their home planets."
Thanks for stating obvious.. your point?
"And they had 25,000 isd's in total lols and 2 mil combat vessels in total your telling me with the billions upon billions of probe droids they have they couldn't find a rebels blase and blow it to shit."
Do you know what is size of Galaxy? So shut up and go back to school 0_0
" They do not have a serious force actually lol their most powerful mainline combat vessel is the is the imperial star destroyer (isd), and then they have their 11 ssd's (super star destroyers) many of which were tactically idiotic."
Yes, judging you level of intelligence I'm sure that you believe to be expert in space combat.. 0_0
"The empire is honestly the worst faction in all of star wars history simply because they always lose to fighters because you know they didn't learn from world war 2."
They didn't have WW2.. yet. Also tell that to Marines who back from Iraq, just replace fighters with homebrew traps. Just don't blame my if they kick your as for stupidity and ignorance.
Can you do another battle video with Halo and Masseffect? How about the UNSC fleet vs the Fleet that we form in Masseffect 3 with every species that we can get and put in the fleet.
Lore, Imperial Bioweapons
Eckhartsladder do a video series talking about the warhammer universe like how did for the star wars universe.
Most powerful wmd's?
Lewis Slaven shawken device
Next could you do the Star Wars “nagaul nagaul” vs the Halo “flood” and see witch one could totally take over the others galaxy the fastest
Covenant in their prime vs Yuuzhan Vong!
Hey, my first time subscribing to this channel! Great content and explaining BTW. there something just alluring hearing about the info even though i'm not good with the lore myself
ANYWAY... suggestion?
Space Battleship Yamato VS Imperial class Star Destroyer
For me it goes: Empire had the best navy, Republic had the best ground forces (because of the clones),the Rebels had the best fighters and the CIS had the second best of all of those.
well your wrong lol the empire had the worst navy by far.
The Empire's fleet wasn't a wartime fleet. It was meant to project the Emperor's power and look scary, both of which it accomplished. The inadequacy of the Imperial Navy can be seen throughout the Galactic Civil War, where it ultimately proved ineffective against a force multitude times smaller than it. The Rebels built their fleet, tactics, and strategies around fighting the Empire. The Empire didn't do the same. Ergo, the worst fleet.
Love the editing!
The Driod fighters were unfortunately no match for the republics fighters it was very rare we one a battle with just driod fighters however with our capital ships the do stand a chance we also had a lot more numbers the the republic
do more star wars! but more legends like yuuzan vongh or the empire of the hand, rakata empire the mandalorians, etc.
So if you take the Rebel-Starfighters, the Republic-Troopers and the CIS-Navy in one army...... They would still loose a war against the Empire! :p
I'd give the CIS droid fighters a little more credit.
1) A pilot-less fighter craft would make an amazing turn-fighter. No organic bodies, no worrying about G-Forces KO-ing the pilots during intense maneuvers. Even in real life, it's predicted the next generation of fightercraft are going to be unmanned drones (ex. Northrop Grumman X-47) to take advantage of this.
2) The fact that the pilots of the Tri-Fighters and Vulture droids etc **are** the ships themselves would work wonders for speed of deployment. With organic pilots it would take a while to deploy them from rest (ie, outside of their cockpits). Pure droids simply just have to sit there and wait. If a naval battle group is, say, surprised by an enemy fleet just Hyperspac-ing in, the organic pilots would need a moment to prepare themselves before they could get into battle order. The droids, who are content to just be sitting there on-ready for however long their owner wants, could simply just go.
That's something I'm actually fairly certain happens in the series at least a few times, where droid starfighters are shown just lifting off at first sign of an enemy fleet.
A-Wings for life
I'm curious if you would consider a combined fighter corps using a mixture of meatbag pilots supplemented with droids? A situation could be devised where skilled meatbag pilots serve in the role of squadron leaders and group captains, leading large numbers of cheap, expendable droid fighters, along with a few purely meatbag squadrons of elite pilots. The creativity and innovative thinking of meatbags is present, while the efficiency; quick reactions, and expend ability of droids also in play.
Imperial tie's are much faster and maneuverable than rebels starfighters . And i think tie strikers, defenders and interceptors have better firepower .
Yet they are complete shit, tight cockpit, no life support systems and no shielding, its cheap way to get massive army empire's philosophy is Quanity > Quality, and guess what they loosed
That would be because they weren't meant to go far from their carrier ship. They are close support fighters meant to protect the capital ships. They were much faster than an xwing and more manueverable. They have such a bad rep because the empire didnt employ them properly. The empire straight up sent them out past the capital ships to engage the enemy fleet without heavy gun support.
SW PL The Germans arguable had better more advanced tanks than the Americans or British tanks during WWII, but the allies won threw the sheer amount of tanks they had, now obviously their are mitigating factor for the German tanks, They were usually more expensive, some of them had issues with reliability, etc but generally they were better. The Tiger had a really, really good gun, and the armor at the time was unmatched, but it was very complex, and expensive to make, the M4 sherman (baseline) wasn't as good in almost everyway, it's armor wasn't particularly good, and it's gun wasn't great, yet it was cheap and reliable, this allowed it to beat the Tiger even though it wasn't as good. My point is, Quality doesn't always guarantee a win.
The Empire did have the problem of not having plot armor, they were always meant to lose. Empire fighters were able to blast rebel fighters with a good burst unless plot armor was involved. Vader's Tie killed Y-wings & X-wings with only a few shots and his Tie didn't have extra special lasers.
Raider class Corvette vs 10 X-wings and 5 Y-wings. (Third attempt).
Maarten Pennings From what I've experienced in the X Wing Miniatures game, your rebels would take down the Raider very quickly.
Actually, those 15 ships come in at 300 points, standard for an Epic game. But they have no upgrades. But with sheer numbers and firepower, that Raider would be lucky to last 1 round.
GhostLink92 I kind of based it on regular star wars. I assumed the game made star fighters a bit overpowered.
If anything regular Star Wars backs up the whole OP starfighter trope. A flight of A-Wings managed to take out the Executor's shields, after all, and time and time again in books and movies a flight of Y-Wings is sufficient to disable a star destroyer. All that has to happen is the X-Wings draw enough fire for a single proton torpedo run by the Y-Wings and it's all over for the corvette.
RoughnecksSTCfan That's good guy bias.
Seems to me you're more biased to think a single corvette could fend off a whole squadron of X-Wings and Y-Wings, especially if they have torpedoes. I've explained my reasoning; what is yours?
I even have an imperial example; when a flight of TIE bombers escorted by TIE fighters took out the Korolev, a Rebel CR-90 corvette, as described in one of the X-Wing books.
On the whole, yes, I very much agree with the conclusions. The alliance is top dog in this category, with the remainder falling into place as listed, though I'd put it pretty close between the separatists and the empire, with the edge going more toward the separatists. They simply went more all-in on their cheap as hell design, focusing on numbers, with the weakness of the automated systems being the true balancing factor.
The one thing that I will say is that the empire's starfighters _could_ be very effective _when_ they were used correctly, and in more than a simple mass attack strategy. However, those key words are very significant caveats. They were rarely directed with the necessary level of strategic skill and leadership to achieve their full potential. In the hands of a Thrawn, they could match if not outperform any of the other factions, but at the same time, a Thrawn with rebel fighters would be deadlier still, and without a Thrawn... well, we've seen how the empire's fighters perform. Thus, in my opinion, they still stay bottom of the pile in real practice.
Top Stinky Farts video
truuuuuuuuuuu
The tie defender was about to be mass produced but the factory was destroyed in rebels and the project had to be abandoned. Had that not happens the rebels would have been shredded
