My wife and I got married in June of 1976. We spent our honeymoon touring around Florida (we're from Virginia). We drove out to Sebring one afternoon to see the track (no race going on). When we got there, the front gates were wide open and no one was around. We drove out onto the track in our 1972 Chevy Vega and drove up and down pit lane. Was a really neat experience.
That rules! Up until a couple years ago you could usually just drive in the entrance of the track but driving ON the track is a whole different thing!
Thanks for the great video work. Keep them coming; nice to see the cars in practice. Well Done!
Thanks Jeffrey!
Ciao Lanky. Thank you for posting the videos of the beautiful auto events taking place in Florida around this time. Greetings from Italy. Grazie, ciao.
Grazie Yuri in Italy!
outstanding, now i'll check the 10 day Florida weather forecast.
I wouldn't even trust a 5 day forecast.
@@LankyTurtle - because ? Florida
I've been doing medical support for 20 years at Sebring. I always enjoy not only the 12hr race but other events also. By far my favorite racing venue.
Top notch quality as always Lanky! Wish I could go back to Florida after having been to last month's Daytona 24 :')
Thanks! You should try to make it next year for the new prototype cars!
Thank you Lanky! Great video work!!
Thanks Jamie!
I worked voluntary security for the 12 hrs of Sebring from 1992 - 2003. I so miss the old days of the American Lemans series race cars and Green Park ofcourse...not to mention F-Troup party zone and the wall of B_ _bs!!!!
Got my headphones in for this. The sounds alone make me drool.
More great video. I will be there from Wednesday to Sunday for the racing in Mid-March
Thanks! That's the way to do it!
What are the best sounding cars? I think it's the Cadillac DPI's and a close second those Porsches. Thanks for the great vid!
Em flat 6 roar is next level
You make racing so much better with these vids🤘👍🤙
Thank you I really appreciate it!
Man do I miss this. Thank you!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for watching the vid!
Great videography! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Mike! Thanks for watching
I live in Sebring for 17 years never been I would love to go I've had chances but never went I am a big race fan of all kinds
I have a solution to your dilemma. Go to the race! If you don't want to spend the big $$ or spend a whole day there you can watch all the WEC teams testing this year on the weekend before the 12 Hours from the Seven Hotel lawn for $5.
Dude, it’s a MUST SEE race, just go!
It’s an amazing race and the event is even better when the European FIAWEC cars come over and race here
Thanks Lanky!
Sebring is Glorious
I am in full agreement with you!
7 minutes of bliss
3:13 so good! Nothing like that Cadillac v8, only brand that wants to keep the real sound of a race car alive
This comment is gonna age terribly next year
@@12th.jahlil How?
@@12th.jahlil I think it's their plan to run the same engine in the LMDh car. Even in the teaser video they put out recently there's the unmistakable growl of the V8.
@@LankyTurtle even the Porsche lmdh sounded like a v8
Those Caddies sound mean AF!
YES!
the 4.0 Twin Turbo AMG V8 on the aston martins are pretty quite but still sound great
I like the rumbles they make off throttle.
I''m ready!!!!!!!
This is awesome!
@LankyTurtle Great videos for all racing series keep up the good work :) but I have to ask how do you get these awesome videos for all the series that you are apart of?
I just show up at the track with a camera. I've never had press or photo passes.
Gotcha
maybe this year a new 2h soothing sound episode from both, WEC and IMSA?
At 1:55 one of the drivers takes a quick dash through the classic old Hairpin turn! Awesome!
Is it still fun to watch the cars go by? I watch karting and the rolex live and for those races you can see alot of the track from one area but im thinking about going to sebring. However i worry that it wont be as fun because of how little time you get each pass to view the cars
Sebring is an awesome track to watch a race at, do it!
Yes it's great being there even if you can only see part of track. I wander around to all of turns but a good place is outside the hairpin (turn 7). That's where the first few minutes of the video are from. For the race they put a small grandstand there and a video screen.
Awesome video Lanky. R u also going back to Daytona?
Thanks Jared! No I usually just go to watch practice. Next thing for me will be St. Pete Indycar next weekend.
@@LankyTurtle oh ok
Corvette sounds biblical
Juan p Montoya como le fue en esta carrera??
So nice! What are you shooting with?
Thanks! A 5 year old Sony AX53 camcorder.
My buddy from college saw the Wayne Taylor Racing Hauler go down State Road 64 towards the east. This was a few days ago and I knew it had to be going to Sebring. Because there’s no other reason why it should drive down that stretch of road. There’s nothing but a few houses and flat country land.
Yeah not much around except cows and oranges. Sometimes teams go down to PBIR to test but I understand that tracks closing down soon.
I can’t wait to experience my first time at Sebring
My first time was in November of 2020. Despite the pandemic, to me as a big auto racing fan, it’s basically a car guy’s vacation. But once you leave, you become a bit deaf. But that’s motor racing irl. Some of the cars are ear piercingly loud. You can feel the vibration in your heart and it’s scary, and you might be 20+ feet away from the fence. Cars to cover your ears to: corvettes, lmp2, Cadillac dpi’s, and Acura dpi’s. That’s IF you want to keep your ears. But when the RSR’s were around. You felt like you were about to have a heart attack. Unluckily they’re not around anymore. But I hope you have a good time there. Be there next year for the Le Mans Daytona Hybrid cars.
I'm sure you'll enjoy it, it's quite an experience!
be ready to see MOUNTAINS of beer cans and bottles
Go Corvette Racing.
Do you know if the wec race has a spectator grid walk?
I don't think so this year. They said they have a VIP grid walk so I assume that's not just the regular fans there.
@@LankyTurtle ah ok, thanks, I went to the 24h but this will be my first time at super sebring
@@ryancusimano5892 Right on. The 12 Hours will still have a grid walk. They had one for the WEC race in 2019 but I'm assuming since its an international series they still have some restrictions for that kind of thing this year is the reason why.
@@LankyTurtle oh ok, thanks for the info
Lived here 42 years. Seen alot of history at the track. But Saturday I will be turkey hunting.
Flys Behind onto Him! (OH MY GOSH!) - 1:23
What team is that at 0:21 ?
Weird! I hadn't even noticed! That must have been the only lap that car did while I was watching because I would have noticed if it came around by itself. It could be a second Mercedes that Alegra or Winward acquired from Europe or could be a VLN car testing, as I've seen that before there. I honestly don't know but good eye!
I was intrigued and had to do some investigating. It's the Mucke Motorsports Merc that races in DTM.
It's Mücke Motorsport's car that races in DTM. It uses an experimental steer-by-wire system so it's possible they are testing it at Sebring to evaluate how it does on a rougher track.
@@RacingVagabond Any possibility they are running the 12 hour? I don't know too much about DTM but there was the T3 lambo that ran at Daytona.
I love Cadillac DPI!
I am hoping The Corvette team can extract all the power left in the highly modified C8R GTPro car and do well at Sebring without running out of gas! The PIT Crews are going to have to step up! They have 12 hours but most of that is on track and not in the pits!
Too bad they don't use the original 5.2 mile track. Longer straights and much more challenging Hairpin Turn.
It'd be awesome to at least see them do a lap around the old circuit. Sometimes they run the old hairpin at least when they run in too deep on the current one.
Are these tests open to the public?
No, they used to let people in for some of them but not for the last coup!e years. The WEC test the weekend before the 12 Hour is listed as public by the track but all they're doing is charging people to go behind the hotel. This video is from by the hotel and around the perimeter outside of the track
Track need a upgraded resurfacing safety's too
12 hours of suspension abuse
That's for sure!
It all changed when nascar took over
There is nothing...nothing in sportd,,.,motor or otherwisw...like the weeks surrounding the 12 hours. The party is on!
I had to drink a beer just thinking about it!
Never been. Did Daytona often, but never Sebring
@@bogthing1 go, Sebring is awesome
Man that new spot is GODLY!!! Please stick to that spot next time!!! The cars can be heard so clearly loud!!
