  • The LZ'73 was created to capture the live sounds of Jimmy Page during his days with Led Zeppelin, particularly 1973. To achieve this, I assembled three separate effects and put them together in one enclosure. I started with a Marshall amp style circuit that nails the Classic Rock Plexi tones - next, is a delay circuit that delivers classic tape echo tone (for the slapback effect that Jimmy loves). Last in the signal chain, we have the Echoplex preamp circuit, which polishes the sound in a way that is very pleasing to the ear.

I just got my hand on production model #2. I’m beyond impressed with it.

my only complaint is that it sounds like the delay precedes the distortion, distorting the delay. I have no idea if you have an effects loop, but I use that for any effect that "should" (an opinion obviously) come after the distortion. Love that song!

Hi Jonathan, and thanks for leaving a comment. I appreciate any constructive criticism! On this video, the delay is after the distortion - but unlike my other Jimmy Page demo vids, I tried something different. On my echoplex preamp, I have 3 positions - Early Echoplex preamp (I normally use this position), Later Echoplex preamp and Fatten. On this video and also on my Hots on for nowhere video, I used the Fatten position. I've used this setting with a full band before, and I always loved how it sounded for these two songs. I believe if I had a full backing track, along with better recording tools and skills to produce it, it would sound more like the sound I like when performing with a band.

How can we help you get a shop? ...or perhaps bring your design to an existing company to license?
