Xu1 had a smaller tray than gtr/S/SL. Also the welds were very dodgy, thats one of the ways you can tell its an XU1. I wouldnt make them clean and smooth. The support that goes to the chassis rail needs to have dodgy mig welds on it. There are lots of photo's on Web how it was done.
Thanks for another great video. The metalwork on that rear 1/4 looks so good, it’s almost a shame to cover it up with paint. Nice to know that the battery and tray are no longer at risk of falling out of the car. She’s going to be both a safe and good looking car. Keep up the good work. Much respect for your skills guys.
There's a specific way Holden welded the battery tray support brace that denotes an original XU1. You've missed the mark on this one. Might be worth fixing your welds, it's a dead give away.
Thanks for another great episode lads! The ol battery tray lol... Reminds me in my younger days when a few mates and I used to fang around in a Datsun 120Y. One particular night the battery tray became dislodged, and the battery ended up rubbing through on the fan belt! how the car didn't catch alight still has me buggered! looking forward to the next episode already!
I’d be a little weary about the authenticity if the battery tray has been messed with, unless a front ender some day, they are different than all other Torana’s
So thoroughly enjoying that "attention to detail"
Second to none!
Well done Fellas👏👏
When Pops is saying it's perfect you know it's perfect, love the Torana add soundtrack.

Learnt to drive in a LJ Torana was a good handling car compared to what was available for the same money. Have a soft spot and love your restoration.👍
Time to get started on the big Star Daz.

Well done keep up the hard work boys.
I’m certain these old Holden came standard with rust holes around the windshield sills but it’s not something that I see on modern cars 🙃
