I took a tip from you and get the plastic container to put my screws in so I don't lose them. I have to find the desktop small clamp to hold parts though. Radio Shack was a big help since I get most of my equipment for computers and satellite equipment there. You have helped me with working on my laptops and I have worked on and put back together two of three of them. The third one is still sitting apart, but will put it back together again when I feel like working on it.

bent paperclip the most useful tool. Completely agree, so far its helped me lift the top sim card catch on nokia lumia's and use so many times for un-jamming DVD drives.

When working with PC's, what do you get to solder together?. Replacing parts is more practical.
I still have this laptop a customer brought in a little over four years ago. His grand kid pushed inside the socket where you connect the power cable to. After examination I concluded that yes, I could solder that part back in, but I would rather replaced the MB completed and perhaps with an even better one. I told him he'll be looking at $250.00 parts and labor. He freak out and never came back to pick it up. I called him and he told me that Conn's gave him enough credit to buy a new one with $200.00 down. By the time he finish paying for the laptop (and all the extras they sold to him...like extended warranty, some traceable software and stuff) he paid way over $1,200.00 if not more.

to the poster, do you ever use the sod tool? I assume to replace capacitors, other than that most PC components are modular. Doing the same type of work, 99.99 of my customers were for virus removal, add memory, add thermal paste, clean fans CPU, graphicard's PSU fans, etc and all dust inside the PC. Virus removal is the most requested by customers.

I would like to know the cost of that desoldering gun and is it available in AliExpress website? Coz I use manual desoldering piston for removing lead in my laptop and computer service job.

Lol. TIM (Thermal Interface Material) or thermal paste is NOT lithium grease. Best to use a non-conductive thermal paste.

3 things I used to become one. 1 Magazine from Maximum PC in one of their edition way back shows how to build a desktop, you learn the components and its configurations, Also, 2 other books I got by the old CompUSA, once you build a PC and install windows you get to know a lot. Reading the Motherboard manual is a must. If a capacitor goes bad, you can learn how to remove and sod back too.

one tool you are def missing thats in most longtime, old skool geeks toolkits most of the time...wheres the butter knife?
seriously...its shocking how many times one of the 3 i keep in mind is PERFECT for a job that none o fmy other tools are as suited to...
i have 3 one with a thick heavy blade, mostly used to pry on things and the like....you know how case sides can be to get off and, i hate chipping the paint trying to pry the side off with a driver(way to common at computer shops...) it dosnt tend to bend anything or cause any paint damage.
one thats got a very very thin flexable blade, and one thats in the middle but also has some pretty serious blade notching thats been handy many times when needing to remove ziptis and the like in tigght areas..
i had a guy get pissed and tell his father to never let us touch his computer again, because rather then "the proper tool" we bent a paperclip and removed the bad disk that was causing the drive to lock trying to read it over and over....and over...)
i recommend grabbing somewhat small plastic container, and use a hdd magnet, glue it to the botom of the container (outside is best in my exp) then drop your screws in and they will stick to the center of the bottom...(Y)
