    I think you're right - an accurate underdrawing IS everything. To help myself with the sometimes long tedious part of preparation, I've learned to love the process - getting a line just right, loving the slow methodical left-brained thrill of just making. You could probably take many of the points you talk about and explore them further in future videos. Thank you for helping to solidify this in my head, Maria. I like your hair :)

      Exactly! It's a great feeling when you go through a period of really intentional work. It's not all like that, so being in that focused head space can be fun too. Thanks for the insight, I'll definitely expand on these topics in the future. And I'm enjoying the new haircut too! 😁

    The whole process is like therapy, yes i feel that too and i love it. All the ups and downs in feelings and figuring out how to do things, gething stuck and all. I learn so much about myself and life as a whole. It's so satisfying in the end when you see you created something that's worth while looking at, or even better.. when it moves you inside. Really love your fresh hair cut, beautifull! Thank you for sharing Maria!

    i know this sounds crazy. we use to use a projector to do under drawings especially really large canvases.
    it helps speed things up a lot. someone might say "oh that's cheating", but honestly if you are going through he trouble of measuring everything to make sure you copy something identically you should just invest in a projector. we just printed out photos on to clear plastic and put it thought an old school projector. they make digital projectors now that you can run off ur computer for pretty cheep, i see people play netflix off them all the time.
    i know this painting isn't for commercial products but in the industry what ever tricks that can be done to shave off time, professionals will often take. think of what you could be spending the time you saved on. dinner with family, another painting, going out into the world.
    i like this video by the way. hope this tip bit helps even if no one asked for it and hey if you like doing under drawings by measuring things out because it can be very zen or if you just have that process to get into the grove of your painting then keep doing what you do. =) if its what u need to do for you then go for it.

      It's not crazy, I've used a projector before for pieces larger than this. I just don't prefer it. Thank you for the comment!

    Hello Maria! I absolutely love watching every bit of your process. It inspires me to slow down and take more care in my process to achieve the vision I have instead of trying to fix so much as I go. Also was that Spanish I heard in the background?! That was awesome! Reminded me of my dad lol! Looking forward to your next video! 😀

    Hello Maria. I am really curious about your process. I recently joined your channel and was really fascinated by the way you work. So meticulously. I would like to ask, where are you headed with your art? Are you looking to go into fine arts or graphic design or architecture etc? And why do you use a ruler and not a projector to do your sketch? Is this part of your course or learning? I do love your channel because you are so different from everyone else. Thank you.

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  Рік тому +1

      Hello! I'm so glad you like my channel! :) I'm a full time painter now, but I graduated with a BFA degree in product design and worked/freelanced in that field in the past. Last year though, I did two painting courses on the side to improve in some areas. I've also used a projector and other methods before to do my underdrawings, but I prefer measuring things out for accuracy, a deep understanding of the shapes in the image and to let the subject pass through my perspective of how I see and simplify things. This is just my own preference, I don't think it's for everyone but can be useful to try out. I've used this method for drawings since I was younger and it just stuck with me. I hope this answers your questions! And yes I am overly meticulous, sometimes I wish I wan't 😅

    This was extremely encouraging and motivating to watch Maria. What pen are you using for your underdrawing? Do you find it stays strong once you tone and doesn't bleed through the oils? Have yu tried other materials for the underdrawing? xx

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  Рік тому +1

      I'm so happy that it was encouraging! I'm using an alcohol based marker, that one in particular is Prismacolor. I use a light umber 40% the most but you can get a darker or lighter one based on your preference. It doesn't bleed under the paint I tone with (acrylics, not oils) that's why I prefer it over other mediums like charcoal that need a sealer first or graphite which shows right through the paint for me. I'm not sure how it would react with oils and other mediums though.

    i wonder if you've ever considered using a projector?

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  5 днів тому +1

      No desire to, it would be less accurate for the effect I want and what fulfills my vision. I do use projectors for more simple and large scale projects, like lettering on a sign.

    What is the actual math formula you use to transfer drawing?

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  Рік тому

      It's different every time, just depends on the size of your reference and canvas. Just scale up proportionally

    Personally would LOVE to see an even longer form of content than you have; 50-60 minutes even. I would watch that multiple times to keep me company during the day while I paint. I don’t work in a public studio, and it makes me miss having the bustle of other artists around and chatting while painting. Plus would boost your watch time hours! :) hope to see even more of you in the future!!

    • @mariasisul
      @mariasisul  Рік тому +1

      I've definitely considered it, but I don't have the energy/time to edit longer form videos. I still consider daily if I should do long podcasts though. And keep the chatty art vibes just with audio.. not sure if people would be into it 🤷🏼‍♀️
      Thanks for watching and enjoying the channel!! I hope you create more also!
