THE STORY BEHIND THE PRANK:
International Lollipop Day.

Me, 31, teaching kindergarten for the first time. Also in private school for the first (and last) time.
The kids were smart. And I mean SMART. One kid had every president memorized and not even in order! Without warning I could yell out "7TH!" And before I could spit out the "th" sound he'd yell back "ANDREWWW JACKSON!" They were savvy little nuggets. I had to be quick on my feet if I was going to trick them.

For a full 7 days leading up to this prank I knew I had prep the stage. I started a construction paper countdown chain, starting at 5, counting down the days to "Internationally Lollipop Day." I never actually lied to them. Whenever they said "DO WE GET LOLLIPOPS?" I'd say "You'll have to wait until lollipop day to find out!"

Cut to April Fools 2021. Mind you, we're brand new to being in the classroom after a year of binge drinking (aka the result of teaching on zoom.) These kids were coddleddddddd. Coddled coddled coddled, one more time, CODDLED! The joke went out without a hitch, but the parent emails that followed... Not so much. And you know what, they all lived to tell about it. Imagine that!
