Don't despair triangle player. In this piece, it is one of the most important instruments. William Tell finally without the triangle would sound terrible! This is the cleanest, best performed William Tell performances on the web. Only one small error about 2 seconds before the end by one of the horns, but other than that, perfect!

you don't just get one instrument if you're in percussion. You have to learn all of the instruments if you're a percussionist, some pieces require you to move around while you're in the pit [the place where percussion plays]. So if you only played triangle, the band wouldn't need you. You would need to know all of the instruments in that section. The conductor may move people around in the pit to get the best result for the band.

I ran all the way back up three flights of stairs, grabbed it, hauled it BACK downstairs, and sprinted out the front doors. Always played at the conclusion of the Lone Ranger in the 1950's. Took us an hour to calm down so we could sleep. Our intro to classical music.

Man, it doesn't get much better than this! Camera work was perfect - most of the time the videographer misses the solos and other keys to the performance. This video nails it. On the musical side, nice to see a full compliment of French horns!

The camera work might have been good, but the editing is terrible. It is out of sync the whole time, sometimes by a complete bar!

Perfect tempo. Some conductors drag the pace so that it's leaden, while others run so fast that the players can barely articulate.

Such a shame that young people have mouth on this wonderful art..

The triangle is like the cowbell in Don't Fear the Reaper. We giggle at it, we laugh, we poke fun, but deep down we all know it just wouldn't sound right if it wasn't there. And we would spend the entire song with the auditory version of that sensation you get when you lose a tooth and you can feel the gap.

Think of all the iterations of this theme that are woven in to our culture, all derived from the inspiration of one man, on his contemplation of another .It really is an object lesson in timeless folk culture , sometimes crass , sometimes poignant ,but reaching its apogee here , still awesome , after its long journey.
