- It's nothing new, and has stuck around since the initial release of the game.
It is the little chibi running on the loading bar. But the main question still holds strong until today; Who is it?

Given her history with the Iowa, the devs could well be holding William D Porter back for a future event with the both of them (not sure how they're gonna make Tone playable, though...)
tone would have to be in a new type of category, such as aviation cruiser. there are yamashiro, ise and fuso who are BBV, but with tone it may be a backline skill on vanguard?
@@Noobular It's a pretty easy concept actually. Let's just designate her as "CAV" and have the plane coming from off-screen using the same button as the regular CV airstrike.
Or if the devs want to put in more effort they could spawn the planes from her chibi using the same button for CV airstrike.
Isn't Chikuma also supposed to be an aviation cruiser? She's already in game and doesn't have an aircraft launch option - just an aircraft related skill. They could do the same and just give Tone a skill that launches an aircraft sortie/barrage. (edit - just looked up Chikuma and confirmed she's same class as Tone, so I'd think that's the easy resolution to the issue).
The Tone class was not meant to carry strike aircraft... At least, not originally. They ere designed to accompany carrier divisions as the IJN doctrine strictly stated that CVs main uses were to attack and defend with CAP (Combat Air Patrol). Therefore, the Tone and Chikuma we're loaded with scoutplanes that could theoretically be armed with munitions, but that was not their purpose and they eventually just became heavily armed cargo ships

Huh, I never noticed her uniform. Good catch. And the Willie D (as I call her). being probably my favorite WWII destroyer as well. I always thought she was the HMS Trinidad, which was struck by her own torpedo, with the shipgirl tripping and having her torpedo fall and explode on her being a reference to that.
While the William D. Porter had some insanely bad luck, she actually had one burst of incredible luck saved over for her crew. She was sunk when an obsolete Val dive bomber , whose kamikaze attack she evaded, crashed into the water and ended up beneath the ship before exploding. The lucky part is that despite all this, her entire crew survived, something possibly unheard of in sinkings caused by enemy action.
If they make her the unluckiest ship in the game, she should have a skill that temporarily boosts her luck stats to the highest in the game, in reference to her sinking.
sounds great! seeing a skill like that would be different compared to the rest, it might be similar Enterprises Lucky E tho.
I would name her skill "Miraculous Good Luck". Id expect her personality to be sad, rather be isolated from gatherings and highly aware of her bad luck, it would be cool if she refers USS Iowa as her only friend in reference to President Roosevelt basically forgiving the crew and dubbed the incident as an accident

William D. Porter had her own kind of luck, her fate ended the most unlucky way as a kamikaze bomber "accidentally" missed her, went under her and blew itself up, the ship lifted out in the sky by a terrible explosion force, slowly sinking with many massive fires broken up ... none died ...
After all crazy events happened to her (or by her)... her crews were perfectly safe as the day they broad the rotten luck ship, as long as you don't look at all of the time they got arrested for the trouble that themselves somehow created...
She got herself 4 battle stars and a number of plane kills during her service
I just stumbled upon this video as a non-Azur Lane player and knowing that's William D. Porter is just hilarious idk why.
at the end of the loading bar, while falling, the torpedo William D Porter was holding also blew up. probably further referencing her horrible service career
Never really thought about it before, but I think it's okay loading bar chibi doesn't make into the ship pool. Could be funny is she showed up somewhere in one of the ingame comics or something referencing her or her mishap. It's not the first time they've done things like this. My favorite example being being U-1206 (on of my personal favorite submarine girls) and her hunting ground resembling a toilet directly referencing the mishap causing the irl ship to sink.
_Partly_ being a key word. While the fault with U-1206's toilet did force her to the surface, it wasn't true reason she was sunk, even if it did let in sea water and toxic chlorine gas, but didn't stop her from surfacing. It just happened she surfaced right off Peterhead in Scotland, who basically just "bombed" U-1206 to its watery grave.

Hopefully they add the USS William D. Porter (DD-579) to the game and give her the lowest amount of luck and make her very incompetent I think that could spice up the game in terms of different character personality and characteristics and also it just be funny

I’m confident they will not release a shipfu weaker than the bulins, but even they have there place in the game somehow. Even tho bulins r so brutally weak they have double AA guns which even with low AA stats still makes them super powerful against planes. Bulins r like budget pre-retro sandy. I just hope they get back to releasing common and rare shipfus in events whether it’s the build pool, event drops, or rewards. Idc how they do so I’m missing the days when we got new common and rare shipfus every month.

That chibi on the loading screen and tone are one of the things I like to know most about, and also obtain, specially Tone, which is super unique for her class.
I mean she might be Porter she might be not. Some ships have drastically changed their design with the years.... wouldnt be the first time.... a clear example is the OG Nagato or the Colorado class. Btw Thats some great editing down here xD

Perhaps devs fear being accused of plagiarism of Kantai Collection? KanColle's Iowa is probably one of that browser game's most iconic characters after all.

I’m waiting for the Johnston as well. Maybe when the bigger later battleships come out they will release some more famous destroyers to even it out. Velos was a fletcher class transferred to the Greek navy and it a current museum ship to celebrate the country’s fight against dictatorship.

It been years since I start play this game, and hundreds if not thousands of time I see the loading screen and I never notice that she is not in game ship.
With the number of ships in the game, you’ll be bound to forgot that some existed in the first place.

Still waiting William D porter as a April fools ship, the main key part about her is she will have a Negative luck stat
And with appropriate skills too :
- Backwards diring Torpedo that can damage friendly ships with reduced damage but have a chance to do massive crits... If Luck check succeeds.
- Increased Main Gun damage against Eagle Union Ship.
- Chance to clear a plane formation... At the cost of instant sink.
She would be worse than useless, but i'd still field her for giggles.
A 1-1 fleet of Porter and Kamchatka would be a dream come true.
Field them as PvP defense fleet to give the opponent an instant win.
@@datlynn781 On campaign map, Kamchatka would require a special binocular resource to deploy. She also trigger ambush consisting torpedo boat only fleet in every tile for the fleet she is in. Every time an ambush is triggered, 1 binoc is taken from your inventory. If you ran out of binoc before finishing the stage, a lvl 120 enemy fleet immediately ambush you.

Did I just learned a piece of history from a gacha game?
I swear that's a J-class destroyer. Jupiter in particular, as in game she is depicted as a klutz with a kuu-face, has blue-ish hair and is seen dropping a torpedo in her art. That blue cape matches how in game J-class have a drape -- Javelin wears hers like a scarf, and Juno has it on her back like on the loading bar animation. Jupiter herself is depicted without the cape and her in game dialogue shows her not being aware she had lost it.
