I think you can assume if China wants your data they already have it, anyone who thinks otherwise is deluded. They can take whatever they want when they want to.
I have this for 3 weeks now and I love it! I only use it as an e-reader and to listen to audiobooks. I also have a kindle and use that as my main e-reader but the boox palma I use when I'm reading in my bed or when I'm out and about because it is just the right size to stuff in your pocket. I think it depends on how you plan to use the device. I never read on my phone so that's that.
nah, this works for me. I'm not looking for a phone (my smartphones are sitting rotting in my home office anyway), I'm looking for this exact device. An E-reader that I can take wherever I want, can download any audiobooks that I want (you can only use Audible on Kindle). Aside from being an e-reader and audiobook, I also use this for Anki to study Japanese and I can download that since it's an android OS; can't use Kindle for that. That's it. As I said, it depends on how you use this device. Either it works for you or it doesn't and that's okay. I was thinking of buying the hisense touch for a long time but didn't because I don't want the hassle of sideloading apps so when Boox released this, I was so happy. @carloareaser
Thanks for your unique thoughts on this device! (I am still on the fence about getting one, and I would use it almost exclusively for reading EPUBs and Kindle books, to free up the space on my actual smartphone and spare its battery. I also have my public transport ticket and my banking app on my phone, so I need it to be available and charged. Getting a really small device for reading next to it -- one that does fit the pockets of clothes for women ;-) -- would be really neat. Right now I use an old phone for exactly that purpose often, but having an e-ink device for reading on my commute would be nicer. None of the other aspects of this device really interest me, so getting it just for reading might be a very specific approach to that.)
I think it's a really nifty little e-reader with some additional features, and if you think of it like that vs comparing it to e-ink tablets or phones, you could be happy!
There is definitely a market for this device for people like myself. Perhaps to replace a secondary phone, reduce battery consumption on a main phone and if using Boox Note devices, keeps your documents sync within the same os. I own a Boox Note Air for pen writing that can be a burden to jot down a note or idea in certain situations. It's also becomes a task to transfer notes/ideas from on place to another. Also when working with my hands I listen to music or podcasts via UA-cam which don't require me to see the screen, which I carry a secondary phone for. This device will lower the amount I have to charge all devices.
Yeah, I like it and I don't want/need it to be a phone. I did end up selling mine because my device wish list is so long and I have to really love something to keep it!
I have now watched two videos of this device with an external keyboard and finally went and bought it. I have been enjoying my Pomera DM250 for writing on the go, but the keyboard is just subpar. Looking forward to using this with a mechanical 60% keyboard instead.
Ohh yah, if you're coming from Apple, it makes sense why this would be a big difference. Nowadays Android and Apple steal/copy ideas from each other so gradually they're becoming more and more alike, but there are definitely internal things that are very different between the two. I actually have an iPad mini and an Android phone. I use the iPad as my media device and my phone for everything else. I wanted something smaller that wouldn't weigh down my purse, which is why I impulse bought this e-reader. I can't wait to try it out!
Thank you for your insights! I’m getting one in a few weeks and I’m looking for it to be kind of a “life slow-down” aid. Like, it can do everything my iPhone can but with a bit less of a sensory blitz and an obvious emphasis on reading.
How did you keep the Palma's virtual keyboard from coming up while you were typing? Mine stays there unless I tell it go away, but if I tell it go away I end up losing my cursor, so I click the doc again to put my cursor there, and the virtual keyboard comes up again!
Nice video! Just one question. Does a black line appears at the very very top of your screen from edge to edge every time you turn on your Palma? On mine it appears just when I turn it on. It looks straight, and does appear to be a flaw but I'm not sure.
I haven’t bought my Palma yet but I would have to say that it would depend on the individual. e-ink/e-paper generally has people reading more due to comfort and less prone to eye strain and fatigue. With its smaller form factor and page turn buttons, I would say that this would also add to potentially reading more and for longer periods. On the flip side, if you’re in a reading slump 😂

That makes sense! I’m carrying mine on a trip right now and just don’t find myself pulling it out, though I’m trying !

It is great as a portable e-reader. As long as you understand it is not a phone, it works very well!
This was informative and thorough! Thank you! Would be keen for a follow-up as you go. It's a fascinating device that.
I'm going to take it with me on a little trip this weekend and see if and how I use it!

I have been trying very hard not to impulse buy this ebook. I love the form factor. Thanks for your thoughts.
I really want to get this. I have books on Kindle and Nook so this device would allow me to have everything in one place.
Nice review. Keep us updated. Interesting for the Freewrite hack ;-)
The servers in China don’t necessarily “look at” more than servers in America. Remember Snowden after all…
too true!

I had a Pomera some years ago and agree - especially if you’re typing in English and are used the numbers and symbols being in certain places!
Does the handwriting feature on the GBoard keyboard work? What about voice typing?
Swipe to type and voice dictation both work
Very biased review. This is a good device.

Hopefully a better color version with Android 14 is coming out soon. This device is getting dated and long in the tooth.

It’s possible I didnt have the cursor and didnt notice? This is in google docs app
@@WritersLike Makes me wonder if it's app-dependent. I was using Obsidian.
@@LeviRedrookhi how is Obsidian on it? Would be one of my main apps
@@ryanbartlett672 it's the same as it would be on your phone!

I want this same size device but with the right aspect ratio! They almost have a winner.
Thx! I think I’ll continue with my kindle (s).
What keyboard are you using when testing free write. I like the key switch sound.
I think that was a logitech K480 - it's a good one!
Hi, does Palma makes you read more compared to other ereader?

Do you still have it?
No, I sold it after about a week!
