This was literally SO encouraging. I’ll be 27 this year and still have 2 years left of my bachelors for my Early Childhood Education degree and i often feel like I’m wasting my time because “no one wants to hire an “old” first year teacher. I have had A LOT of the same emotions you had in regards to teaching (i got my associates in child development after high school but thought that was all i wanted and then worked in a daycare for a couple years before i realized that i really just want to be in a school making a difference) I seriously feel like you and i could really be friends! Thank you thank you thank you for your transparency!

I would love to hear about your interview experience! Just like the questions they asked, what you brought to the interview and how in depth your answers were! I’m in an El Ed program right now and I’m scared to death of the interview process! Haha.

You are such an inspiration! Thank you so much for sharing this! I will be a freshman in college this year majoring in Liberal Studies (Elementary Education), and have been faced with so much negativity regarding my choice to pursue teaching from peers, friends, and even family. Hearing stories like this reassure me that what I am doing is what I want!

That's so funny that you made worksheets for imaginary worksheets because I literally did that for years as a kid and had no idea that I wanted to be a teacher. Once I got to college apps and started thinking about majors, everyone that I told that I was considering teaching was like "Well, duh." Apparently it was obvious to everyone but me! I'm not in my third year in an El Ed program and loving it.

Ugh! This is so nice to hear - same thing here with teaching my imaginary students! Ha! I've finished my A.G.S. but don't know where to go from here - considering going back for teaching. I can't stop flip flopping! But I always return. The struggle. I hope I get my ass in gear soon too!

Thanks for this video! Just stumbled across your videos today and I love them. It's so comforting to hear your story. I have always found myself gravitating toward teaching and I've had a ton of people tell me I'm "too smart" and have "done too well in school" to be a teacher. I listened to their voices more than I should have -- but now, after graduating from undergrad this past May, I have applied to two teaching programs! I'm finally on my way!

Just found your channel from THe KInderhearted Classrooms channel. Your video together was adorable. I had to check yours out too! My daughter begins her teaching journey this year and will be teaching Grade 4- I'll be sharing your channel with her- I'm sure she'll find your videos helpful. :) It is scary to be a first year teacher! Been there 27 years ago. Good luck as you begin your 2nd year! Enjoy the rest of your summer :)

I found your channel this weekend and I have to say we are practically the same! I started at SDSU too and then transferred back home to the University of Arizona and I got my degree in psychology which is something I LOVED. I always knew I wanted to teach (I did the same thing you did with making worksheets for pretend students as a kid...) but I also didn't see it as a "successful" career path. Senior year I applied for PhD programs in autism research and I wasn't accepted to any of the programs I applied to and I was at a loss as what I would do. A couple of weeks later, the Red for Ed movement started in AZ and I decided it was finally time for me to accept my fate and become a teacher! I immediately applied to masters programs at ASU in elementary ed and am finishing up my second semester. Next semester I am student teaching full time and I am so excited because it is also the district I grew up in! I have been subbing as well and my program ends in December so I will have a lot of time to get more experience and prepare. Thank you for being so relatable. I love your channel!

OMG I really relate to your story. I am doing an alternative teaching program as well. I already had my bachelors degree and I was kinda of stuck in a sales job that I really hated and had to start from scratch. I started subbing as a way to make money, but I really fell in love with the elementary level. I started my program in January and it's all online. Thankfully I am almost done and I have to take my content test and plan on taking a special education test too. Hopefully, this fall I will start as my first teaching job. I am finding your videos really helpful, I started watching last night.

This was so helpful! I live in California just 45 minutes away from Sacramento and I am going back to school now to become a teacher and it has been so hard with college counselors not knowing anything about the pathway I am supposed to be taking so this offered so much insight! I thought I was the only one who had gone back and forth about teaching when I was younger but I am so excited about this process! I thought I was the only one who was unsure at first, and I'm so glad I found your channel!

    Ugh! I absolutely LOVE you!
I am in my first year of college at the old age of 24 (😂) because I knew I didn't want to work at my desk job for the rest of my life. I just didn't show up to work one day, started college a few weeks later, and I've been in LOVE with college ever since. Teaching is the only thing I have interest in, and watching your videos makes me even more excited to get my degree. ♥️

Hey girl! I have been watching your more recent videos, but watching this one fills me with so much excitement! In each video, I can totally feel your passion for teaching and you remind me of the teachers I ended up loving during my elementary education! I, too, used to make fake worksheets haha. My grandmother and great-aunt (her sister) both were teachers, but my mom discouraged me from the profession at a rather young age because she only thought of the money involved and felt I wouldn't have any security had I pursued that route. I am currently in a 2 year/5 semester program for something I have a great amount of for, but I still feel like teaching has an even bigger place in my heart. I love your channel so much and I truly hope you continue this for as long as possible.

I loved listening to your teaching story because it resonates so much with me! I studied psychology in undergrad because it is such a huge passion of mine. I was following the natural trajectory of my program and intended to get my PhD in clinical psychology when it hit me that, although I love psychology, I want to teach. That is where my heart is! Similar to you, I would always try to recruit the neighborhood kids to play school with me.
In general, I have been loving your videos! It makes me so excited to start my teaching program this summer :)

That's funny, I did the same thing growing up. I knew I wanted to work with kids but I wasn't sure of what I wanted to do exactly. I had/have a lot of medical issues and always remember my child life specialists and thought It would be fun to do that. But I thought that since they worked in hospitals , they had to go to medical school which I didn't really thinK i was interested/smart enough to do so. Turns out, they don't lol! In my teaching classes at my local comunity college, I just didn't feel like it was right for me.
Have you done a video about what an IB school is?? If not , I would love to see that!
