Easily one of the most poignant episodes. The victim, a drug mule who reaches the point where she wants to leave it all behind and better her life, is murdered. Scotty, at that time working undercover, crossed the line in trying to help her, is now haunted by this. and begins to doubt his ability as a cop. Another great music scene is the victim's last scene at the church, where "Life In Mono" (by Mono) is played. A very powerful episode
I thinks either this episode or Rampage were the first ones I ever saw of the show, and needless to say I was hooked. I agree with everyone saying the glimpse she had of the life she dreamed of right before realizing she was going to die was incredibly moving, and it really stuck with me. If anyone hasn’t seen this episode, I recommend you watch it if possible, almost just for those moments

I kept on wondering why she didn't just tell them the location of the cookies... but then, she'd be back to having no money. Then what would she do? She didn't have the money to help her family, she wouldn't be able to come back to being a mule after stealing 2 cookies bc she'd die anyway... so she just understood, finally, that there was no happy ending for a life like hers. She made choices and they caught up with her. But still, in the end, she held onto her dreams of what she could've been...
This was a great episode, but I really don't get why the victim didn't just give up the location of the drugs. She probably would have lived if she did.
I think the implication here was that she’d pretty much given up. The girl who picked her up( and killed her) had always been talking about running away to Florida, and once Ana saw she was nothing more than a junkie and would never help her, I think she accepted death. Couple this with the fact that Det. Vera told Scotty earlier in the episode she was doomed and just drew the worst hand in life. It could also be argued that she thought Scotty gave up on her (when his undercover boss pulled him from the sting) thus her only possible savior from the mule life was gone. I think she was just tired of running and accepted death.
For sure; never been much of a CC fan but this scene jettisons into the realm of the tear-jerker even without the viewer having seen the entire ep. Power of film exemplified.

But to sum it up, the chant was recorded by Maison des Cultures du Monde in france and then sampled by Michael Cretu who thought it was in the public domain, and put in to Enigma's Return to innocence. It's all on wikipedia as well.
