- Pinatubo is one of the most exciting racehorses in recent years. With a racing record of six from six, the sky's the limit for this son of Shamardal this season.
The colt has already claimed two Group 1s, including The National Stakes at The Curragh and the Darley Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket Racecourse, England.
In addition to wins at Royal Ascot Racecourse in the Chesham Stakes, Goodwood Racecourse in the Qatar Vintage Stakes, Epsom Racecourse and Wolverhampton Racecourse.
Trained for Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby, Pinatubo has been ridden by jockey James Doyle four times and William Buick twice.
He has been given a mark of 128 in the European Two-Year-Old Classifications, a higher rating than champion racehorse Frankel at the same age.
One to watch for 2020...that's for sure.

@@stephengill7147 For me it is the most overpriced 2000 guineas favourite in the history. 10/11 on a horse that has literally beaten all the major players in the race, not once but multiple times. Everything is on his side today, I can't picture him losing.

Did you see the turbo in Pinatu(r)bo kick in 2 furlongs out in the Chesham? He's class and I can't wait to see him race as a 3 year old. All good things come in small packages. 😉

i think this horse was named after a "Mount Pinatubo" of the philippines 🇵🇭 , a great horse 🐎👏
Think he'll win today though I felt the same about Air Force Blue in 2016. Only a few hours to go until we find out.
To the newbies commenting here: Pinatubo is bred and raced by Godolphin and the head of Godolphin is Sheikh Mohammed of Dubai. Their jockeys wear royal blue. Pinatubo is freakishly good he could be the next Frankel.
He’s got a Filipino name (like a lot of horses before) but he is not Filipino-owned. The most famous Filipino owner is Danding Cojuangco, who raced the great Manila. He is the head of Gooree Park in Australia. Interestingly his granddaughter Monica is married to James Cummings, the trainer for Godolphin in Australia.
How confident Are you that Pinatubo wins the 2000 Guineas??

I backed him in the Chesham. They won’t see him for dust in the 2000 if they ever run it.
I live in Australia I backed a few horses two weeks and put $50 to win $2900. My last horse is Pinatubo to win the 2000 Guineas. Should I be confident? Will he definitely win?

@@ollaum Do you think he can be above 10/11 on Saturday? Personally, I have seen big moves in the price over the years but just thinking that this horse can be above EVENS it's insane. Pinatubo has smashed Arizona twice, smashed Wichita. I do really think it can and should be 4/7 before the race.
A great two year old who possibly should have been tried over a mile as a three year old.

Eddie Donnelly been retired 2 seasons ya clown. Name me another superstar from Australia like her... Black Caviar? Not in Pinatubo’s league. Don’t think she’d even live with Battash over 5/6. As for Winx, couldn’t cope with Cracksman or Enable over middle distances.

Eddie Donnelly come off it. Grade 1’s over there are nowhere near as strong as they are in the UK. I’m taking nothing away from what she’s done but if she was as good as Chris Waller makes out why didn’t he bring her to Royal Ascot to take on the best in the world?
Could be another Frankel.....If he hacks up tomorrow we'll know more......personally I think there will never be another Frankel, god that horse was amazing....glad I had the pleasure of seeing most of his races..

Lots of very good 2 year olds in the past have not trained on and until it runs you can never be sure.

Pinatubo turned out to be kind of in the same mold for Charlie Appleby as Air Force Blue was for Aidan O'Brien. You couldn't beat him as a 2YO and couldn't win a race as a 3YO.
But he did win a race as a three year old and ran three good races in defeat.
@@nightowl7459 I love looking back as these people don't comment often. If they bothered to look Pinatubo won all races at 7F or less. They just don't take the time to put effort into comments. Unfortunately there isn't many Group 1s at 7F at 3.
Obviously he didn't have the turbo heading for 8f so it's not his fault.
@@Dwayndibb It's not Pinatubo's fault, I think Pinatubo's last race was down to his Jockey over doing the waiting tactics, but Pinatubo was bred to get ten furlongs although it is very possible he didn't quite get eight furlongs? But he certainly was a good horse without any doubt, many just like to knock him because he's a Godolphin horses and not a Ballydoye owned type, and then we have the Frankel fanatics who just can't accept that any horse can be rated higher than Frankel at any stage of their careers.
Looks like a great thoroughbred. Time to give him a chance to race against other champion horses at the Breeders Cup Mile at Santa Anita.

i'm just wondrin if the owner of Pinatubo is a Filipino or even have connection to the Philippines? Because Pinatubo is a famous volcano in the Philippines which erupted 30 yrs. ago, the eruption is considered to be the most powerful in the last century.

No matter what the ground conditions are like, over a mile at Newmarket I think it's more likely than not that Pinatubo will win the English 2000 Guineas standing on his head. What I'm anxious to see is how he handles the step up in trip from a mile to 12F at a much trickier racetrack in Epsom contesting the Derby? Assuming, that is, that the Guineas/Derby double is the route that Godolphin intend to take with him?
