Around 40 years ago, my Brother took me to Lake Wenatchee for some Sockeye. when we got set up there was only a single red hook on the line. No bait, no nothing but that single red hook. I asked him if this is really how we are going to spent our day, dragging around an empty hook, he said wait for it. Wasn't long before I was a believer. That was fun, no having to worry about bait or anything, just take the hook out of the fish and throw in back in the water.
Going to be my first year going to Brewster. thank you for giving us the knowledge to succeed!!
My girlfriend and I have been having a great time catching Kokanee. Thanks for all the helpful info you and your channel provide!
That's awesome. Glad to hear you are having success and sharing those experiences together.
Thanks for answering my questions. The logistics of getting out fishing are hard… so I need to do my homework to get the most out of the limited time.
Even on Baker Lake, I go heavier on the rod(s). Simply because as you noted, the fish are "squirrely" and you are working in a "fleet situation" with dozens of boats fishing.
Would you consider doing a video on Maxkinaw? I know you primarily focus on salmon, but looking at chasing some lake trout at Bear Lake and could use your expertise. Thanks so much for what you do for the community.
Hey I got a decent video showing how to catch Mackinaw.

But that’s at lake Chelan hope that helps.

Thank you once again for your time to make this video. It's very informative and helps me better prepare myself for my next fishing trip!
I just got my riggs tied up.
Orange, florescence pink, light pink. Pink/Glow hoochies with variations of plain, smile blades, and spinner blades.
I’m excited. I got the 22-24 reserved for camp but I might have to sneak in a day trip or two before that.
I am so stoked to head to baker this year.
Thanks for the video!
I caught my first Sockeye today in Tri Cities. Love the videos.
As always, thank you very much for your insight and knowledge.
Diminutive, great word but I definitely had to google that one 😂.
Any news on the Brewster pool heading down tomorrow looks like a windy day .
Love ur channel! We actually got tangled with u last year @ Baker lol
Oops sorry!
@@spiltmilt Nah bro u good it was funny I looked over and seen you and was like wtf cause I always watch your vids, it was probaly more our fault than yours lol, wasn’t a big deal just funny to see you!😂
goooood
When you mention leader length, where are you measuring? From the beginning of the bead chain all the way to the end of the hooks, or what?
As always thanks for the good info. I noticed that you are using bead chains on your lure leaders. Are you doing that now on your kokanee set ups as well?
Not yet
I run "king" rods. *Proceeds to lift up an ocean bottom fishing rod.
It's a Shimano Trevala jigging rod but light power. Its actually a great all around salmon, tuna, and bottomfish rod. Too each their own plus its short which makes netting easy on the kayak,
Are you going to come back over to baker this year? The best tim is within the first 2 weeks
No I don’t have the time this year
Have you gone to baker lake during the week? Was it more tolerable midweek or similar to weekend boat traffic?
It’s busy pretty much everyday
Tyler, I see a lot of anglers using duo locks on their leaders or before the bumper on the braid. I personally use snap swivels, but wondering if using duo locks has any advantages or specific reasons other than being a bit cheaper?
Swivels are fine.
Have you tried a 360 flasher with the hoochie or spinner rig for sockeye?
Yes I discuss that specifically in the video
Do you actually have pheasants or is he a wild one? I used to raise jumbo ringnecks, they were alot of fun.
Wild
Will 2/0 luhr Jensen herring dodgers that are 5 3/4" work or should I find something a little larger for this fishery?
2/0 will work fine
Any recommendations for lodging/camping in the general Brewster region? I’ve found a few motels in Omak that look fairly sketchy
Pateros has a decent hotel and their is a Best Western in Omak. There are also some decent hotels in Chelan as well. Otherwise AirBnb might be another option
Hey Spilt, heading to Chelan (finally) tonight. Do you think the kokes are still in between the white and red roofs or do you think they’ve migrated? Thank you!!
I’ve heard good reports between the red and blue roofs and near Wapato Point
@@spiltmilt perfect! Thank you! Got a campground there for the weekend! Always grateful for all of your help!!
Was looking at the Bonneville dam fish counts. About 32000 fish passed today, 448014 total. How far into the run do you think we are?
Love the content. Thanks for the tips.
My guess is we are passed the peaked but not by much. I def feel the fish came earlier this year due to lower flows.
what did you use for leader material,
Mono
Has WDFW posted the closure rule for kings? I've been trying to find it off and on today with no luck.
Its in the 2025/25 regs book.
@@spiltmilt thank you. I forgot that the rule book starts well after open water season starts.
Did they close the Columbia?
Below Tri-cities only
Looks like you need to put a little weight on in preparation for the ice fishing season !
Ha I’m hoping to dump 10 more for a race in the fall. It’s gonna be tough winter on the ice 🥶
I heard you buy wd-40 by the case...🫣
I don't even know what this means?
I was kidding. People used to say that if you spray wd-40 on your lures and flashers youd catch more fish.
