But if you lose...you’ll be trapped in one of these paintings FOREVER!” It had been a close fight, but ultimately...How long had it been since then? Five years? Six? Mario approached the first turn. Before going to the castle, he had told Yoshi to come looking if he didn’t return soon. Had Yoshi managed to save the princess? Mario thought it unlikely, because surely he would have been saved too...But then a thought occurred to him. All those times he had ditched Yoshi into a bottomless pit, and that was after the dinosaur and his friends risked life and limb to save him as a baby...Oh, mama mia! The realization hit him like a Bullet Bill. He hadn’t really been a good person. Sure, he had saved the princess several times, but truth be told, he was using that as an excuse not to clean up his act. “Do I...deserve this?” thought the once-legendary plumber as he hurtled toward the finish line. “Sliding down over and over again dying of thirst and respawning every time...I thought this was torture, but maybe...maybe it’s justice.” Mario crossed the finish line, his mind a blur. Usually, no matter what was going on, he had no trouble with his ending ritual. But today was different. He went to claim his 1-Up, but suddenly stopped. When his imprisonment began, it had taken about thirty cycles for Mario to get all the screaming and pleading out of him, but no words had left his mouth since then, until this moment. Why did he decide to speak when nobody was around to hear him? Mario didn’t quite know why himself, but despite that, he took a deep breath and declared: “No. No more. I don’t know if this is still just Bowser’s tyranny, or my divine punishment, or maybe something beyond my comprehension, but this ends here and now. I’ve had enough.” With those words echoing through the void, Mario turned away from the mushroom, and the superstar of the Mushroom Kingdom sat down in the corner of the quiet room one last time.
So sad. Mario has been left into nothingness, yet he still clings on. Now he has lost all hope. It is a wonder to think what would happen if Mario had won that legendary battle...

When the penguin finds out you cheated
As Mario slides on his favorite playground over and over again, he realizes he went through the wrong painting. Endlessly using every ounce of strength left in his body to stay on the endless track, he notices the track seems to keep repeating. In his turmoils, he realizes that he can no longer save peach anymore. Flames arise beneath the abyss and the music slows and distorts and becomes rather disturbing. Knowing life is now pointless, he lets go of the loose dirt and falls off the track. Life seems to slow down as he falls and the fire burns brighter in his eyes, the embers warming his face and burning his mustache. The atmosphere suddenly lights up, and everything turns black. He has flashbacks of sky trees from his galaxy adventures and realizes that bowser has been mind controlled this whole time. But now it’s too late.
