Yes, BB and South Rim is spectacular, but i agree with your other video about the Davis Mountains, the loop , the vistas, sky line drive was open when i stayed at DM St Park, and i walked the primitive camp area too just outside the main st park. Incredible rugged untouched beauty, creeks ,Canyons, stayed at a ranch owned campsite on the South side of the DM Loop, hiked as far and high as i could, the view South was mind blowing, felt like i was staring all the way to Mexico. I think it's a crime that DM are not a National Park...great channel, i love West Texas, happy trails.
For so many that can't get on the trail and experience this hike, your video shines the light on on how beautiful the highest elevation of Texas really is. To those of us who now realize we can pack up the vehicle and get to it, thanks man.
Your comment nailed it for me, I'm 61 years old & only able to be on my feet for one hour a day because of health reasons. These videos are so meaningful to me, I love scenic drives but these videos are amazing.
I can’t believe it took me this long to see your videos. They are great! I haven’t seen any at Chisos Basin, love camping there, the Window trail is a great one too!
I made this same exact hike about 3 months ago. Just in the opposite direction. Wanted a lesser decent to save my knees some aching but an absolutely stunning hike. Your video does an exceptional job at portraying what the hike is like for people that haven’t been. Love it
This is my all-time favorite hike! The first time I did it solo was in 2022. I went counterclockwise, and my 70+ year old knees were screaming by the end...even with trekking poles. The last time I did it...January 2024...I started with The Pinnacles and ended with Laguna Meadows. Much easier on the old knees!
Oh what a beautiful hike. I kept looking at different places and thinking what a beautiful picture that would make. Thank you for taking us along and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas.
Thanks for taking us along! We recently climbed Guadalupe Peak (8700 feet) and have climbed Emory Peak and Lost Mine trails at Big Bend. But I agree with you that the views on the rim trails exceed Guadalupe Peak. We love staying at the Chisos Mountains Lodge but the last time we were there I had a very close nighttime encounter with a large male cougar. We have seen black bears often as well.
We did not have time to do Emory or the South Rim but we did do the Lost Mine-on our recent visit. It was perhaps the best designed trail of this kind we have ever hiked. Here, the views of the vistas are spectacular. Lost Mine is a relatively friendly 5 mile trip, up and back, and the grade is not a significant challenge...1100 feet elevation change.
Could not agree more. The Lost Mine Trail is an absolute gem. The difficulty isn't too great for anyone who's reasonably healthy, and the rewards provided by the views along the way and at the end are spectacular.
Love this channel! Though have to say, I was slightly disappointed there was no "Scenic Drives Across Texas" for North Texas, the part that I am from. I was looking forward to it!
I’ll be there in a few weeks with my son and thought about doing this exact hike or coming up Juniper Canyon to the south rim. Have any opinion on that?
Truly amazing. The far of views of the Santa Elena Canyon are amazing. We canoed it a few years back. The far of views of the Sierras Del Carmen is another amazing sight.
Super Cool.....could you provide a link to where I could start.....I visited Santa Elena Canyon last Feb.....hiking for hours in the Valley....would like to see the high spots. Pittsburgh Dad Texas
Thank you so much for your superb video. It is fund to watch and a perfect preperation for going on that hike. Does somebody know if there are any toiletts on that trail? I know the toilett, that used to be at and serve the campgrounds on the south rimm has burned down and is no longer there. I thought there might be a toilett at the junktion of the south rim trail to the other trails, but I cannot find any information on that. A hint would be welcome 🙂
Were those bluejays, sir? I love my birds. I have established feeding and watering areas behind our motorcycle shop where so many kinds of birds, including a hawk, frequent. I also provide for bunnies, squirrels, a skunk, and opossums. I do what I can to help them out, and my regulars feel like friends. I give some of them names. Twice, my partner Gary has had the strength to give small birds a quick release from injuries that were so bad it allowed me to walk up and pick them up with a thin little dog blankie.
Now you’ve spoiled the secret! The south rim is better in every way. A person used to be able to hike the rim and see no one or almost no one. But it is still not crowded and certainly less crowded than Emory.
Excellent. We did Emory Peak (to the very top) in March 2021 and loved it. We were already planning to do this hike in February or March. We usually fly into El Paso but I hear the influx of illegals, refugees, migrants, whatever have really clogged the airport. Any alternate suggestions? Also how long did it take you to do this one? Thanks.

awesome I need to try for that same hike.

Not the highest, Guadalupe peak is
It was great to hear your feeling when speaking towards the bird. Ty for that.
So ruggedly beautiful 💖 God Bless TEXAS 🇨🇱🙋♀️
It’s amazing for sure. Camped on the South Rim at SR4 to watch the sunset last fall. It was a stunning experience. Thanks for sharing!
That was awesome how that bird dropped down into your shot at 3:06!
This looks absolutely amazing my friend. Cinematography here truly and literally breathtaking! Epic work!
Great video! Big Bend is my favorite National Park! I've done Emory Peak but not the South Rim, I've got to get back soon and do it!
We hiked South Rim on Dec 13th for my 50th, and it was amazing. Wish we were back there, and thank you for this video!!!
Beautiful.

Some pretty epic views! Thanks for sharing this amazing experience!

Hi.
Long-time hiker, first time viewing trails in this park.
Very nicely filmed and narrated.
Will pass this along to others.
Thanks, and God Bless!
7:13, absolutely magical...
Oh what a beautiful hike. I kept looking at different places and thinking what a beautiful picture that would make. Thank you for taking us along and I hope you and your family have a very Merry Christmas.
This has quickly become a park we want to visit. Thanks to your video, it’s now bumped up the list!! 😊 thank you! 💚
Been there done that. Need to get there and do it again!!
I camped on the South rim. It is amazing. You're right it does beat the guadalupe mountains
Amazing!!! Spectacular view.
This was definitely my kind of hike! Fabulous!!

Takes you back in time.
That's one trail I haven't done before. I do like the views. Been out to Big Bend plenty of times. I wish I had done that trail, sooner.
Wow how cool to see the Indigo Bunting so close. Beautiful hike.
Actually, it is a Mexican Jay but looks similar.
Oh, so beautiful! Yet another of God's Country I think they call it.
Super Cool.....could you provide a link to where I could start.....I visited Santa Elena Canyon last Feb.....hiking for hours in the Valley....would like to see the high spots.

How does it take you to make such an incredible journey?

Just asking since I have never carried my pup out anywhere. Scares me a bit, to be honest. - although it is a very good thing to do!
Thank you, Secrets of Texas.
Could you give us a timeline of this hike? How long it took and your time of arrival @the trail head? Thank you for the great vids!
Started at 830, finished around 230
@@secretsoftexas6872 thank you!
We camped in Chisos Basin and completed the South Rim and Emory Peak hike in 10 hours last Monday. Big Bend is truly a magical place.
My eyes have seen this in person.

Mexican Jay
@@secretsoftexas6872 love all Jays!
The etched steel directional signage look like a great idea. Is its use by the State unique to Big Bend?
All national parks signage looks like that
Great video! How much water did you have to carry with you?
We carried about 2.5 quarts each but temps were only in the 50s max
I'm headed here in February, can I expect the vegetation and everything else in this video to look about the same?
Probably
How does this compare to guadelupe peak as far as difficulty?
What's a reasonable time to complete the hike? Half a day?
I would say allow 6 hours for this at least to give you some time to take in the views.
What time of year is the best to hike this trail, in your opinion?
December thru March.
Now you’ve spoiled the secret! The south rim is better in every way. A person used to be able to hike the rim and see no one or almost no one. But it is still not crowded and certainly less crowded than Emory.

I typically drive to the Seminole Canyon area and do a hike there. I then drive to Big Bend to break up the drive.
I bet there's a bunch of rattlesnakes.
You should go to costa rica and see the birds and butterflies down there. You would be blown away.
