    I have essentially no experience with pool, and this is fascinating. The basic physics is clear, but the stop shot puzzled me. But I see now that a position slightly higher than that of the backspin results in less backspin. But to calculate it as finely as this guy does is truly impressive!

  • @davespringer777

    I felt so cool when I learned these. Then I played people who knew how to position it perfectly for their next shots. I realized I was only beginning to understand. I never mastered it, but learning how to play pool was actually great for building confidence. You could be pretty shy, but if you're running the table, you're going to get noticed.

      My father bought the family a legit pro pool table for my ninth birthday. I felt like I got screwed...it was NOT what I wanted.
      Dad taught me how to play and it was really cool to bond with him over that table and a mutual appreciation of the sport.
      By the time I was 14, I was playing in pool halls around Cincinnati for a dollar a ball. Bought my own custom cue for my sixteenth birthday. After I got my first car, I was traveling the tri-state and making fat stacks. Good times.

      Well no worries... You aren't. You need practice and lots of it until you don't have to think about these. Knowing them is step one. Getting familiar with the feel of them and the table you are on is key. Just remember there are as many angles and variations as there are atoms on the surface of those balls. And every contact creates a new flat point that will change it the next time.

      @otsdarvafoxxfyre 2 роки тому +1

      @@randomlygeneratedname7171 if you hit it too far away the back spin basically gets eliminated while the ball is moving across the table. Cross-table shots usually have enough time for the balls spin to slow enough, it starts to roll in the normal direction and just behaves like a normal shot. If I do put back spin English on a shot, I usually offset it slightly off center so it's less likely to just follow the other ball into the hole. And topspin English is never used on straight on shots bc the cue will just follow the ball, but it's useful for a combo shot off of another ball so the cue rolls clear of the others

      @J Zim it helped me. Everyone might not be as athletically or spatially inclined as you. It has a line up the middle too to help you shoot straighter.
      It pays for itself. I use it on empty tables and don't have to pay for the table time. 😉

      @J Zim no, you're completley wrong. This ball can teach a beginner the miscue limit, how much bottom is needed for a stun shot, how left or right English throws the object ball, etc. This is also a great training tool to practice hitting center ball. You hit it, see where you left your chalk mark, and bam, instant feedback. Just be ause you can knock a few balls around with your drunk buddies doesn't mean you're the almighty pool God. You probably count beat me even if I played one handed.

    Im always interested in which shot people have more control over the cue...draw or follow? Personally i have more control over the cue using draw. Im talking about all things being equal, which would you prefer to "have to use"...i asked this question in a weird way so i hope people understand what im really asking

    • @TheNuggzt3r
      @TheNuggzt3r Рік тому

      A draw shot is just cool. I love doing it, I love working on my draw stroke and therefore I also prefer using draw to get position in a match.
      I feel like I know the path of the cueball better. I just more used to stunning the cueball along the tangent line or let it go back a little or more.
      BUT I'm working on that...because very often there's a much easier solution when just rolling the ball and following the natural path. I want to become better at knowing and using those easier solutions.

    Veteran pool player here. This is essential in being a good pool player. Word of advice to people that want to try this. You will fail miserably without the right tip on the cue. If you want to practice I would suggest spending $50-$75 on your own pool cue and going to a pool hall. Bar pool cues are often heavily worn.
    Also make sure to chalk your tip after every hit.

    Reminds me of how Pete Rose describes hitting in baseball. ⚾️ You basically have six moves. Either you move up in the box or move back in the box. You move left in the box or you move right in the box. You choke up on the bat or don’t choke up on the bat. ⚾️💯👍🏾

    Man i wish i have youtube when i was a kid. I got decent at pool without ever knowing these (what seems like it should be basic pool knowladge) tips... Had i known these, I'd been safe from many of my flaws. I just had no guidance. I grew up in a bar, and always for some reason was around a pool table, but just never got the chance to meet someone with real talent for the game. I still was able to beat the bar owner at age 9, and stopped playing around the start of highschool. Man i wish i knew these tips, i can't play even decently anymore. 😆
