Thanks for doing all that work to create this vid for everyone. I like the way you edited it, too. Growing up in Saskatchewan I've seen films of the beavers building their dams and lodges with the annoying educational narrations of the 40s and 50s. For me this is way more educational and enjoyable plus there is no projector noise to spoil it. Just nature sounds. Perfect. 👍👍👍👍👍
I wonder if this has been filmed like this before, you should hand it over to a TV station or something. It is truly fascinating how determined they are and what endurance they show in their effort to rebuild this! Incredible! Thank you for showing this Russell!
Russell, thanks for today’s video. It really showed how industrious beavers really are. Remind me, because I have lost count. It’s Russell 2 and beavers 2. Who is going to win the battle of dam?
That's why I said that it wouldn't take them long & they will build it stronger & stronger if u keep ripping it out we use to use dynamite & blowing it up made it harder but they will build it back if u dont trap them dont know what there geting for the hide over there but mite be good $$$ good luck Russell cuz they are workers lol & that's a big one mite be worth a good $$ lol but they will be back when they hear water running lol
I think you should get some traps Russell, you can play there game. Al and Gina on Lumnah acres bought a big parcel of ground and it has different sizes of ponds on the property and the water was getting up to the road and they didn't want it to flow over the road so Al got some traps and hipwaders and went to work and kept going by the dam daily and he caught IDK how many in the trap but finally got rid of them and Al and Gina are happy and the water is staying low but as soon as they see any means of anything water coming up or beavers they get right on it. Get R Done Russell !
That was pretty awesome Russell. I never seen something like this before. Thanks for doing this. Amazing strength they have and dedication to build. Their teeth are sure strong. Now, how to make them mosey along to not flood out your property.
THAT is fantastic!! GREAT documentation of the clash of two worlds. Beaver can do a lot of damage with their dam work!! VERY difficult to control them. I have seen several people use varying charges of tanerite to blow their dams up. They are a determined lot for sure.. This was a great documentary quality video. Nice goin Russel!! It is really looking beautiful in your neck o the woods. Beautiful shots of the leaves. It is gonna take much more manual labor, or serious mechanized help, or introduction of some heavy explosive removal techniques to make any headway with these guys. Good luck with that. But their presence will make HUGE changes in the area and not all of them good.
A Potato Rake is the best tool I have used to take the dam apart. They have 4 tines on a long pole that are great for braking up those mud balls. Get one with a metal handle they are much stronger than a wood pole you will brake those.Get Mr Wizard to build you one out of metal. Once you get tired of cleaning out the dam you should try my motion light idea, but its fun to watch you until then.
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin You're building up their self a steam. They were setting in the lodge having a party in your honor last night. Passing around the willow sticks and chattering away. The little guy probably got a merit badge for most sticks in a day. You might as well build a floating bridge were the trail keeps flooding and call it done.
Thank you so much for going to the trouble to film and edit this! My husband and I were amazed and just watched these creatures with wonder! We’re south/central texas folks so beavers are an entirely new breed of critter. Just fascinating!
Wow, Russel, you have surpassed yourself! This is a fantastic thing to see, beavers at work! If it is ok with you - I will share it on Facebook, where I have lots of friends who love nature! I have never seen beavers damming up a river before - thank you so much - and have a lovely weekend!
@@RaspberryRockOffGridCabin I don't think they kill wildlife unless cornerd by a threat, they may displace some wildlife but others will take their spot, mink, muskrat, ducks, amphibians. Wetlands are just as important as forests.🙂
They are the best engineers the world has produced! Maybe one of the smartest animals on the planet. Yes, they provide much more habitat than they destroy, I understand how they can be a deterrent to some development, but ironically they were there first!
Thankyou for this film, beautifully done. Thanks for your hard work to achieve this insight to beavers. No wonder it is said " to work like a beaver"..Ruth U.K
That was fascinating Russell. Thank you! A Canadian friend of mine I spoke to after your last video, told me that many years ago as a young lad, he ate beaver,,,he said it was delicious. Living in Japan, I have at times eaten a lot of strange food,,,,Not so sure about eating one of these! Thank you once again.
That was amazing video of the beavers hard at work! It is funny at first you think what they are doing can’t possibly stop all that water but sure enough, all of a sudden their work starts to really impact the flow. Really cool!! The fall colours are quite spectacular already too!
Why they choose this place so insistently? Certaintly for good reason that I don't know... Soon the cold...they need their house to protect their family. They're remarkable for courage and so ingenious, I say respect.
3:55, the dog is obviously not interested in going for an adventure at all 😉 🐕 Cool video, it give a whole new meaning to the expression "busy as a beaver" Thanks for doing it! 👍
Great video! I'm wondering if you could place some sort of piping under the beaver dam to keep area drained. This way they wouldn't hear the sound of the water.
Wendy Perrins,Queensland, Australia We might have 21 out off 25 dangerous snakes in the world here in Australia but thank goodness we don’t have beaver. You are so patient Russell. If it was me I would be making beaver soup by now and a beaver rug. 😂🤣😅🤣 I must admit they are very hard workers with a lot of dedication to the job. They are very cute also.🦫
Hi Russell , Wow that video has to be shared with all nature lovers and of corse I’m not sure what you have in Canada 🇨🇦 to our guys in NH Fish and Game they would go crazy for it . The shots you got of the busy Beavers building again was really , really great ⭐️
I've been thinking of getting a white light trailcams and see if it would spook the beavers away eveytime they set if off? I assume you're using one of those IR blacklight trailcams.
Excellent video thanks for posting, there is overpopulation of beavers and very destructive to Eco system when there are to many, not enough predators anymore.
Take a claw rake with you next time. It will cut your work in half. It's great for raking out the mud, and exposing limbs below the surface for deeper drainage. 7:20 See the mud bottom? A claw rake would easily remove that.
Hey Russel just watched your beaver dam video's and it reminded me of another video I watched of someone who had a very simalar problem, the channel is Vonnie's Kitchen Martin's shack. ther are about 5 video's showing his attemps to overcome the problem without killing the beavers, I think you should give them a watch they start out with Chopping out the beaver dan m - Martin's beaver deciever wins. I am happy that the beavers rebuild my damn that burst two years ago. I have water again!!! You will have to put in some kind of culvert(Big O pipe) low enough that the beavers don't block it. cover it up again. Make sure the part extending into the pond is a ways away from the actual damn
If you check the drone footage you will see their "house" is fairly close to this dam. Watch the YT footage from "Lumnah Acres" (about 8 months to 1yr ago) where Al had the same problem and fixed it for good, no firearms used.
Damn! I would not want to be bitten by one of those beavers or any beaver for that fact, lol. You gotta give them credit, they go to work and stay with it until it's finished. One thing I learned is, they are slower at putting the dam in that Russel taking it apart, LOL. What's your next move Russel?
Whatever one says, theses beavers deserve some credit and admiration for their dedication to their cause
They're definitely hard workers.
@Ralph Mckay : Russel was filming them to learn that

I read some where thata beaver will build a dam where it hears the sounds of water, regardless of the water moving or not.
Weird
That beaver is sure quicker then a city worker!!
I think you have an award winning video! It’s truly awesome and entertaining and also educational…Russ, you’ve outdone yourself with this one ☝️

While some think they're pests, they really are incredibly smart providing habitat for many animals, not just themselves.
They also destroy whole forests and ecologists, displacing and killing tons of wildlife.

Joelle, there is a CRAZY number of beavers in this area, and they look for any spot they can to start a new pond (and build dams).
Enjoyed your video. Keep up the good work.

Someone else mentioned some kind of battery powered motion detector light, sounded like a good idea.
I tried those dollar store sidewalk border lights, the ones that charge off a solar cell and run a LED all night. The beavers chewed those to pieces.
This is such a cool video 😊
Great to see pal. Thank you :-)
