This year, for the first time, I've been doing huevember. Not the classic "one drawing per day" challenge because I don't have that kind of energy, but a variant where you combine the days by three. So you end up with a palette of very adjacent hues, enough to give you a variety but not nearly enough to depict all the colors you'd like. So your experiment with this palette kinda reminded me of that haha! I lvoe the exercice so far, it's pushed me to think about how I approach saturation and taugh me of to use greys to "fake" colors. I hope your palette explorations will be good learning experiences too!
to be honest, Minnie, I haven't written or painted anything in a while and it's mostly because of my depression. but i am always warmed by your videos. i love your voice and the aura of your art and just how genuine and kind you are. i think i'm going to try to paint more after this semester is over, that and pick up french again. i want to be fluent soon, maybe next year. and i want to stock my own shop with originals. i can't wait to see your next video and i'm so proud of you for trying something out of your comfort zone!! i think it's the most challenging thing but exciting thing for an artist

Damn, that landscape looks gorgeous! Those small details make it come together really nicely. And I was surprised how well the watermelon works with these colours, since the green was missing. Very good reminder to stray from the habitual paths when it comes to picking colours once in a while - thanks for sharing!
These earthy tones are beautiful. I think a limited color palette is a fun art challenge to work on. I love when artists use a couple unusual colors to create realistic images. Ultimately, your brain will tell you what you’re looking at based on the context clues from the details. I have to work in limited color palettes as a printmaker because full color relief prints are very time consuming. In the last couple years, I’ve mostly done just black and white, but I want to start working limited colors into my art again.

Your little landscape made me realise how much blue is involved in summer scenes - to make green, mostly - and how the absence of blue is what characterises winter landscape colours
This was fascinating to watch! The watermelon really popped once you added those highlights at the end. And the landscape is marvelous! I am so intimidated by landscapes, so I absolutely love watching the process of creating them. I can't wait to see what kinds of art you make with a more muted palette!
I love it 😊 I actually don't miss the blue, or better: I don't miss the blue in the landscape you chose. I always struggle to paint a moody sky, so not using blue is something I am going to try out!
it sort of feels like an old dim photograph that maybe has yellowed over time. Really interesting how it still has blue and green, or tricks the eye to think it does.
I also tried this palette a few months ago and was surprised at how versatile it was! I can totally relate to what you said about missing the blue hues, so I suggest you try doing a blue wash or a base before starting the painting, since some of if will still show up on the final painting

OHH Zorn Pallet is so interesting, ever since you uploaded your last vid i just couldn't stop waiting :) I was trying to use this pallet with gouache and kind of failed. Now I have more inspo to try again!

A few years ago I did a painting using the Zorn Palette and it was a bit challenging using those color for a landscape but a lot of fun. I really enjoyed your video and watching how creative you are.

The landscape was lovely with the muted colours. And the watermelon so cute and bright! I just started experimenting with gouache so I only bought some essential colours, very limited. And this looks like an interesting study and challenge to do, completely achievable with the materials I already have. Thank you for the video!

I love how cohesive and dreamy the landscape one feels, that watermelon also looks surprisingly juicy with only minimal palette ❤️ i think Zorn palette is amazing in that you can get many subtle tones just from 3 colors but i still don't know how to feel about it! i like looking at muted palette but actually working with them doesn't bring me that much joy. Though the result is nice and less tacky, i think having an enjoyable process is also important part of art making. Maybe i'll try switch some color or make a huge color swatch like you did in here.. 🤔 anyhow keep up the good work, Minnie! Looking at your art and your videos always inspire me to draw better, or just do better in general ❤️

I recently experimented with a watercolor palette of perylene violet, perylene green, and transparent yellow ochre from Schmincke. It was so fun to use for the portrait I did! I did find myself mildly annoyed that I couldn't match the reference subject's blue eyes in the painting, but I gave her green eyes instead and I think it turned out really lovely.

Wow, this is very impressive! It's hard to believe there weren't any blues used in the final painting, but I get why you wanted to try payne's grey instead of ivory black at some point. In the past week I've been exploring limited palettes as well: up to three colours and no more than that. I noticed I find it harder to decide on what colours to use than to come up with ideas to paint. I usually stick with small, abstract-ish landscapes to catch an impression and not the actual picture. But those palettes... The first one I tried was a mix of a few of my favourite colours and it looked terrible, the second one was my go-to mix of a payne's grey, an indigo and quinacridone gold. All watercolours! Do you have any tips or ideas on how to pick a limited colour palette?

As a bit of a coincidence I just heard a news bit on public radio here in Sweden today that someone is examining Zorns palette from a scientific perspective, using infrared scanning and what not. This far they had indeed found, as you mentioned, that he uses cobalt blue and a number of other colors not on the traditional zorn palette. I found this a bit amusing to see it referenced two times in one day, especially as I am currently studying painting and colours are not my strong suite.
