Established in 1987, Melbourne International Comedy Festival (#MICF) is one of the three largest comedy festivals in the world, alongside Edinburgh Festival Fringe and Montreal's Just for Laughs Festival.

It's a laugh track. Whenever they cut to the audience, 1 there are no close ups and 2 everyone is perfectly still, which is not something that is generally associated with uproarious laughter.

Yeah, I have that problem with most male comics. Most of them put me to sleep. But, as an intelligent, mature person, I don't seek out their videos to comment as such. So Dave Chappelle’s fans are searching for Hannah Gadsby on UA-cam? Why not watch her two specials on Netflix? oh, yeah, no comment section. You could all think this is funnier than Dave Chappelle’s stuff, but you’d hate-post anyway you sad people. The YT algorithm has been randomly showing me older Hannah material b/c I’m a fan. A good part of this are jokesnthat ended up in one of her specials, and while I think this is funny, I’ve been learning many comedians work out there material on stage. These are solid jokes but polished to perfection by the time of her tow shows Netflix picked up. So Hannah got funnier while Dave, who I used to be a huge fan of, exchanged jokes for hate speech.

Ok, fair point if you genuinely never heard of her (Hannah Gadsby said that since her first show Nannette, haters have been DM’ing her that they’ve never heard of her, except their DM’s made it clear they had and were angered by the content of that show, such DM’s often included more than hate, like death threats, so the “I never heard of her” is always going to sound suspicious and I’ll always wonder if the person I’m interacting with is angry enough at her to wish her actual harm.) Also, if you don’t watch Netflix, why do you care about Dave Chappell or Hannah Gadsby, since all of this relates to Netflix shows? Hannah Gadsby was very popular in her home country of Australia, but didn’t become popular worldwide until Netflix turned her show “Nannette” into a Netflix special, which did so well, Netflix picked up her subsequent show called “Douglass” and of course this Dave Chappell show is a Netflix special also.
2. Netflix a criminal enterprise? In what way? That really needs some explaining, as far as I know, it’s just a streaming service, and it’s content covers a wide range of subjects and genres, the majority of which are not Netflix original productions, so it serves the same purpose today that Blockbuster Video did back in the day. I’m afraid “exploitative crap factory” is too vague to explain how it’s exploitative and how it’s criminal. Do you mean it should be cancelled as in “cancel culture” cancelled, or in the way a tv program is cancelled? The former is childish, just don’t subscribe, and the latter makes no sense. Netflix is a company, not a tv show. Either way, if Netflix is truly a criminal enterprise as you claim, either form of cancelling seems an inadequate way to deal with such a thing. Which tells me you’re just randomly spewing garbage because something you don’t like dares to exist. You’d be happier if you just found the things in life you liked, and did those things. Try it.

Dave did make some inappropriate jokes about the LGBTQ community, and his surprise that people in that community were not happy about it rings hollow, since he’s a member of another community often at the receiving end of similar treatment by comedians. That said, his show wasn’t about “a trans person being tortured by trans people into suicide.” This was one anecdote in his show, your description of it shows you didn’t understand it. Dave says that he doesn’t know if her suicide was directly related to the encounters she had on Twitter (and probably isn’t, trans people, like all LGBTQ people, have a higher rate of suicide than straight people, because of rejection by family and friends, and because of discrimination faced . Social media can be toxic, but not so much that an otherwise happy person will end their life over it.) Also, that anecdote wasn’t meant to be funny. Dave isn’t the only person to mix serious content in with stand-up comedy.
