In this installment of SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED, we go over how the world record holder for Half-Life 2 Any% No Voidclip, peng, beats the game in under 40 minutes. This run is dense and intense. With the myriad of tools you have at your disposal with the Source Engine, peng absolutely breaks this game over his knee with backbreaking movement such as accelerated forward hopping, accelerated back hopping, circle strafing, and much more. In addition to the ridiculous movement, he utilizes several glitches such as saveclipping, quickclipping, and item save glitch to clip through walls or skip portions of levels, and several skips to avoid large portions of chapters.

Assuming there's an average 397g of daily poo in the bucket (I've got that in my search history now, thanks, TA) the relativistic energy of this bucket would be equivalent to 1.87x10^76 eV or about 3 x10^57 watt-seconds.

9:08 the reason is known, it's caused by accidentally giving the prop vehicle physics, but most props don't have the right weight which causes them to have this strange noclip like effect, when the player makes contact with the prop they get vehicle physics as well and that's what leads them to fly, the reason that specific vehicle counts is because it's actually cut content from the game! the combine were originally supposed to drive around in these acp's and tanks but it was eventually scrapped. the vehicle still seems to have some remnants of code though
It's still driveable by the combines. It's not cut
It also works with any drivable vehicle not just APCs - which means you can do BBT with jeeps and HL2 Episode Two's Jalopy as well.
Okay but the HL2 HUD in Comic Sans is really cursed.

20:27 idk why but this whole sequence really got to me as being so absurd in a narrative sense.
Demigod who is jet boosting through reality gets blocked by a simple iron gate, responds by time traveling, making a poop bucket fly to the edge of the universe instantly, and then very very VERY carefully starts putting two paint cans on top of eachother, constantly having to insure their safety by securing the time and place of every known object that exists every couple fractions of a second. All to pass through an iron gate.
Gordon Freeman is truly ahead/before/during/outside of our time.
I like to imagine Breen and the rest of the Combine Advisory watching Gordon unpinning a nade, gently setting it down, and getting his run up to jump above it before it detonates, watching him fly across a hundred meters like it was the most commonplace thing.
you know I used to overlook those little moments where you talk directly to the viewer and tell us that if we're not feeling okay that's alright but I've been feeling bad lately and hearing you really helped me out, keep up the great content man and thanks for the little talk

Half-life 2 is the most technical run I've ever saw, that's for sure. Been enamoured with it since I saw Gocnak run it ten years ago. Thanks for the video, dude.
The tech has come SO far since DWaMoV, that's for sure - back when they didn't know how to clip through the airboat gates w/ the vortigaunt, and talked that up as a holy grail for shortening the run. so cool to see it all realized and explained

You could call someone and if your message was short enough (such as "we had a bb it's a boy"), you could fit it into the name "input field", so to speak. And then the robot voice would say to the other person " Will you accept a call from 'We had a baby it's a boy'?" and then they wouldn't have to accept the call because the message had been successfully transmitted for free, circumventing the system.
This was pre-texting, obviously.

Hey at one point I made a comment on your video where I was in a very bad place in life. Since then, I met my girlfriend, the love of my life, I got promoted twice at work, and my dad made a miraculous recovery after getting a liver transplant. We got more dogs after jack passed and they helped fill a lot of our life with joy. I moved back in with my parents to help take care of my dad but the girlfriend and I are talking about moving in together now that my dad doesn't need as much help anymore. Life is doing good, and I found that greener pasture. You are right, making that kind of final choice in a moment where you are low and not thinking clearly deprives you of life once it gets better, because life does get better. Your videos made me laugh and helped me though a tough time when I needed it, thank you

I’ve been really depressed, burnt out, and distracted lately after pushing through this past semester, avoiding my grief. Things are really bad right now, but they’ll get better, and I needed to remember that.

It's worth mentioning that the reason the two bounding boxes are called the Quake box and the Havok box are because the source engine is based off of the Quake video game source code, which is in charge of the movement and other things. Havok is the physics engine that Valve licensed for the source engine, and I guess for some reason they had to use a different bounding box for the two systems instead of just one. This explains why the Havok box takes priority when dealing with physics objects as it is the bounding box for the physics engine.
