In this SPEEDRUN EXPLAINED, I teach class how the world record holder for Super Mario Odyssey Any%, Tyron18, blazes through the game in under an hour (under 57 minutes to be exact!). This speedrun contains insanely tight movement, including things like clapfires, roll cancels, spinpounds, triple throws, rainbow spins, cap stalls, power vaults, and more! The run ALSO contains clips to go out-of-bounds, skips for 2D sections, and other crazy exploits and shenanigans.

it's my first time every watching this channel, this randomly popped up in my recommendations. ive had it on in the background while ive been playing pokemon, and i happen to be having an awful night. suicidality has been a constant for me for 7 years now, and tonight has been particularly rough and ive struggled to not do anything impulsive. but that short message towards the end of the video about how there's always a brighter future helped, even if ill soon forget those words due to other things i have going on. so much genuine care was put into that section, when it didn't fit the theme of the video, and wasn't even necessary to include. the fact that something so kind and warmhearted was included in a video about mario speedrunning gives me hope. tonight is still bad, but it's better than it was. and tomorrow will be better again. thank you.

the greenscreen bits are fun--though theyre different definitely, they dont change the video really. i prefer the lack of them, but that might just be cos im more used to that. what is nice about the greenscreen segments is they visually differentiate tech descriptions from run descriptions, so i like that. i feel like theyre really suited to these long ones where that can get clotted up, and might clutter shorter ones. we'll see though!
otherwise, your explanations and articulations improve with every video, where it almost feels like i could do it if i just followed the video, ykwim? and i kind of needed that tomorrows segment today. so thanks. love your videos, thought id interact to provide feedback on da new technique but yeah!

I'm pretty sure nintendo confirmed this somewhere, I could be wrong tho, either way they 100% made the game with speedrunning in mind, most mario games that were released got a lot of attention from speedrunners, and with sm64 being (for a long time) the biggest game to speedrun. It makes perfect sense that they would want to incentivise speedrunning with their next big mario game.

All of these trick names are so confusing, but really fun to hear them being used in the same sting of words.
"Mario will do a double jump, wall jump, into a UBB (Up Beat Bounce) to get over the collision of the wall. Then immediately do a downward Lion Charge into a DBB (Down Beat Bounce) as soon as the Lion Charge ends to keep the downward momentum and avoid a death barrier. Then Mario will pull off a Beat Bounce Ricochet to slingshot himself into the doorway into the next level. A Beat Bounce Ricochet is when Mario uses the momentum from a string of Beat Bounce maneuvers to hit an angled wall to be launched in the direction of the wall. This in total saves around to 35 seconds from the normal route."

honestly I prefer not having the green screen clips but that might just be because I'm used to the old format. I liked how in old videos jokes were delivered at breakneck pace in the middle of describing the run, but some of the jokes in the green screen section where you're explaining tech kind of felt disjointed and messed with the pace of the video by extending some segments for longer than it felt like they should be. (for example the bit at 3:48 didnt really do anything for me and kind of felt forced? but hey thats just me) it's a little thing though and its not like it ruined the video, its still really well made and informative like all your other videos
also, this only applies to the green screen part. i thought the joke at 14:38 was really funny and didnt mess with the pace with the video at all because of how it happens mid-run

Just one thing for me personally, I watch UA-cam on my phone, and usually with CC on some videos yours in particular because the whole script I would assume is on it, exactly what your saying and stuff.
In landscape mode (sideways) the CC are at the bottom and some of the Definitions of tricks are well at the bottom also.
Having to turn of CC and read them isn’t a huge issue like at all.
But at 7:47 there’s a definition of a trick that was at a perfect height to have both Cc and the info on screen at once.
    Maybe something to consider!

I hope whoever is reading this is doing ok and finds peace with life I love everyone and everything.

100% agreed. I don't watch these types of videos to look at the video creator, I'm watching to see the game footage and speedrun along with the explanations of the techniques involved. I generally avoid channels where the focus is on the video creator because I'm more interested in interesting content than I am watching a performance

Hi, I know you probably won't read this, but I want to thank you. I watch your stuff regularly, most videos few times. You have great voice and you really help with going to sleep. I always appreciated your words towards people in dark places, because I was there few years ago and I was sure you might help at least some of them. And I am also in this bad place right now, but after so many videos and so many hours watching you, "no feeling is final" mantra came to me by itself. I know you are right. I know it will get better. And you are one of the reasons I know that. I want to thank you so much for that. You are not only great source of entertainment, knowledge, sleep aid but also maybe even... life aid. Thank you.

I think a fun addition to this video would have been some visual representations of the longer/crazier movement chains, like having a symbol for each of the main movement techs, with arrows connecting them to illustrate whether the tech is for moving laterally, vertically, or both. For example at 11:34, triple-jump >^ cap bounce >^ cap stall ^ wall kick ^ jump ^ wall kick ^ dive >
I think that would make those bits easier to follow for smooth-brain folks like myself

So, I know this won't change anything, but it still needs to be said. The "
no feeling is final" segments, while well-intentioned, are about some of the *_worst things_* someone with active mental health issues want to hear. It's not just that there's often just isn't anything you can say to help the people you're targeting with these segments (if they're actively suffering).
The main issue, though, is that you're drawing attention to something people are trying to keep their attention away from. Even skipping it makes the person aware of what they're skipping. The thing is, even if it's a good day, it _still_ makes it hard to watch, because it risks ruining the entire day. How am I supposed to feel when I'm finally kinda happy for the first time in weeks, only to be told "no feeling is final"? You can see how easy it is for that to sound like "you will never be happy", right? Especially to somebody who isn't thinking rationally.
A lot of the time, my girlfriend and I (as well as a lot of my other friends), that just flat out cannot watch your videos. I'll see a really good looking video and be really disappointed to see who made it - because I know it'll be good, but I can't watch stuff unless I'm in _just_ the right mood.
It's a pretty straightforward exemple of toxic positivity. It really comes off like someone who think people with depression just need to smile more, or just need people to say they love them and then it'll _all be better._
I'm totally willing to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume that isn't like you, but jesus does it EVER feel that way.
I'm sure someone somewhere has been helped by it, but if someone is going to find any help from from something like this, they'll be in a suggestible enough state (which isn't at all uncommon with moid disorders) where _many_ things could have that effect. But they always make it known when they are helped - and maybe that led you believe this is a helpful thing. But the people who are hurt by it don't say anything, in part because of how it looks to be criticizing apparent positivity.
You'll probably keep doing it whether you see this or not, but you should at least ask yourself how many people you're okay with having suffered (to some degree) - who wouldn't have otherwise - in return for whatever amount of people benefit, who wouldn't have otherwise.

Problem with mental health is everyone is different, and there isn't 1 thing that will make everyone feel better. He does that segment in his videos because that is what helped him with his mental health, and from my experience (it always makes me feel better, although I have never had to deal with anything that bad) and reading the comments I can tell that it works for a lot of people. But I totally understand why it doesn't work for some people.

    • @Just.Kidding
      @Just.Kidding Рік тому

@@potatojuiceultra yeah while thats true, there are things that make people feel a LOT worse. Sometimes making some people feel better isn't worth it if it makes others also feel worse.
The problem is you don't choose whether you listen to it or not. If you watch his videos, you're confronted with it. Even if you skip it, you're still forced to engage with it, and for people with things like intrusive thoughts, knowing that you're skipping a positive message because of what it'll do to you can itself make you feel fragile and snowball very easily.
This is without even touching on what he says in the individual -lectures- segments. Some of it is light and positive and good. Some of it is SO heavy and SO serious for SO long. But it's the fact that it's directed at *_YOU_* as an _individual;_ bringing up your most personal and sensitive issues completely out of the blue! In the middle of something people might be watching specifically to _not have to confront those issues!_
All of that together is like... why on earth would I listen to this? Again, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt, but it REALLY comes off like someone who very good-naturedly and kind-heartedly wants to help, but unfortunately knows nothing about mental health. "No feeling is final" is another way to say "Don't worry, it'll pass" or "you won't be sad forever".
