I swear I have been hearing nightmare stories about Gibson since the 90’s. A friend I’ve known since fourth grade with the initials TH was a Gibson luthier and was the builder of the first few Ace Frehley Les Paul guitars in the later 90’s. Between his stories and the public videos of guitars being destroyed, I have no idea why that company still exists.
I would love to have a Flying V with a Strat neck, pickup and control configuration and a reverse headstock! That would be a combination of Hendrix and Michael Schenker who are my two favorite guitarists.
Where is the first 1994 Double Cut LP that was in a rotating display case at the Employee entrance in 94? It was painted black and signed by the employees in gold. Any pictures of it? I haven't seen it in 30 years...
Well, the front entrances were re-done and re-enforced when a GM at another division was caught fooling around with a police officers wife. The man breeched the gate and proceeded to pistol whip the GM in his office. needless to say, the entrances at all facilities were beefed up after that. So, the 94 Double Cut (which I remember) was probably moved during that time. I also seem to remember putting a signed LP Supreme in Gold in the case when Les Paul passed away.
OMG!!! The Gear Page ROASTED AND TOASTED AND DECIMATED this poor guitar!!!! It was merciless. There were shots of necks in boxes. They made the Hendrix organization sound like money-grabbing monsters! I agree, if it was known Valley Arts was involved, it may have gotten much less flack. welp, I sorta know some the family, jammed with Leon for a summer in the studios in fremont, he got a stipend but sis was very tight with the money after dad passed, she (stepsister) really put the screws to Leon (jimis blood brother) IMHO, apparently she wanted it all so maybe there is some weight to that comment? if you go back to the sea times paper and the day they dedicated the "rock" to Jimi at the zoo, I'm on the front page with Al, (James) standing on the rock he is on the ground . good pic of pops .. no sister in sight? hmmm...
My guess is he'd have luthiers falling all over themselves to craft his vision... so perhaps the big boys wouldn't be involved. The inevitable Signature models would not be deterred!
It's a pity Gibson shelved , no shoved just about everything Steinberger behind the shelf. Sure, They use a couple tuners on some Firebirds and they make the Spirit which is more like the Hofner. But searching for any generation of the transtrem.... Unicorns. There's a small boutique or private individual that did a limited run of reverse engineered tribute units, clocking in at the price where you may as well buy the 80s and 90s Steinbergers to get one. I prefer the boat oar to the more ergonomic but larger late Steinberger shape, like Strandbergs. Even the late TT3 Steinbergers with the larger ergo-strat shape were high last I looked. I suppose everything Gibson is. Luckily Ive been teaching myself guitar work and bought up a bunch of things before tariffs hit to practice working on and to rework into dream machines as I acquire quality parts. 2nd hand.
Transtrem price on its own will buy you an entry level Fender American, a hella decent MIJ Japanese sex machine, or the strap buttons on a Gibson American. It's the one bridge to far. As I have been reworking decent but cheap bodies, and necks finish, joints, radius and frets then hunting hardware.
lol, a set net, 17 degree 3+3 headstock, so you want to build an offset SG .. meh, they already make squier HH strat, stagemaster, neckthru but that's just semantics right .. with all the lawsuiting Gibson is invlved in with shapes and whatnot one would think they'd have more sense .. meh . .

But nobody ever thought "Hey, let's make a new guitar that Hendrix never played and market it as "authentic Hendrix" might be an unsuccessful idea?

I think he would’ve gone for a super strat - would finally start playing a proper left hander, Floyd Rose, bridge humbucker

Was it an issue with the Hendrix estate that scraped the project ?

Why wouldn’t Gibson do a Jimi SG project? The “Gibson Strat” makes ZERO sense for a Jimi Gibson signature post-mortem.
