When he goes into that upper register towards the end, I still get goosebumps. Once a trumpet player, always a trumpet player. But someone like this man takes it to a completely different level, he has God listening to this.
Absolutely incredible. The National Anthem already requires some endurance, but he takes it to the next level. His control over the instrument at those high registers are unbelievable.
Arturo Sandoval or Jesse Mcguire ??? I choose Arturo sandoval.. had more range and hit many notes in 1 second but to be fair Jesse had amazing staccato notes and had very amazing articulation but only a trumpet player would be able to know how amazingly gifted the two men are .. ☺
I am going to have to disagree, and say the Dr. McGuire's version was better. Granted, that Arturo did a phenomenal job performing the Star Spangled Banner, but in my eyes I believe that the vibrato and twang gives it style, and makes it sound like he plays with passion. Different strokes for different folks I guess.
I heard this live and searched it for that reason. Beautiful rendition. Watching it back I couldn't help but notice this was back when Kap was on fire and he standing for the anthem. We ended up losing this game by 13 in Charlotte. Great memories and the anthem was a big part of it.
I've played for years and that performance was epic, perfection, and undisputedly mind blowing!! Wow, I still can't believe what I've just heard. Wow, just wow...
tchacheee Today he played before the NASCAR race in Phoenix. Even a little better than this one....if that is even possible. I love the trumpet and wish I still played but too many other things are in the way. I get goosebumps so bad when he goes up into the upper registers. I want to crank my volume higher but can't do it. He is amazing.
I remember back in 2001 the mlb wanted to replace him for a big name artist at the world series for the Dbacks vs Yankees . Jerry coangelo fought to keep him as we Arizonans loved him. He did the anthem often for the dbacks, Suns, Mercury and our AZ Rattlers
OMG!!!!!!! Maynard Ferguson has been reincarnated!!!!!!! I just listened to him play at the NASCAR race in Phoenix. I swear he gave me an eargasm. I always dreamed to be able to play like that but it takes a special person who dedicates hours upon hours of practice from a young age to hit those high notes. Thank you for uploading this!!! He is so talented. I'm still trying to get the goosebumps to settle down.
Dude is nice. He used to play with Tower of Power for a lil well. Video is on here. Strike my main nerve. He kills that solo. He nailed that high G. F for us bass clef folk! I love his tone. Saw him her win Jax at a jags game. people were talking. I was pissed. Jesse is the man!!!
I don't know Arturo Sandoval, personally, but give his renditions of TSSB due respect. We grew up with Dr. Jesse McGuire. I know him to be a fine person, husband, father and friend to many. His renditions of TSSB are all over the 'net. His range and talents can stand up against anyone. He has performed with Tower of Power and The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and so many more big names. Doc Severinsen, past presidents, James Brown, Wynton Marsalis, Stevie Wonder, et. al., and our friends, appreciate his talents. The most powerful thing in his life is not his trumpet. It's the Father, Son,Holy Ghost and love for his family. God bless Dr. Jesse McGuire.
Thank you to our Troops fighting over seas for us or who have fought and served in our armed forces. This national anthem does give you chills. God Bless America. Congrats my 49er.
Awesome from the first note to the last! Every note has intensity and passion -- even the before he jumps octaves. Amazing! Thank you for posting this! :-)
Everyone’s talking about the difficulty of just hitting those notes but doing it as a long note, in tune, with vibrato, loud enough for a stadium to hear is unbeatable
For anybody who does play a brass instrument you should know that those notes are extremely hard to play. It takes so much air to do that that it would give most people a headache to hold it out that long.
Jessie is awesome I heard him this summer in Trenton New Jersey at the 2014 Special Olympics National USA Games it Was Awesome it was Unforgettable it Put tears to my eyes
A wonderful rendition of our patriotic anthem. One minor criticism, Wish he had hit those "E"s solid instead of sliding into them. What a terrific range he has. So good to hear a real musician play it instead of some pop singer that wants to re-write the melody.
Me too!!! Have you ever listened to Maynard Ferguson (rip) or Bill Chase (rip)? Maynard Ferguson has at least 5 albums although it might be hard to find them now. My favorite by Chase was "Handbags and Gladrags". When I was in high school, I would be up til 2 or 3am with headphones on and sketching while I listened to them. Something about trumpets screeching out notes that doesn't seem possible truly amazes me. I would have loved to have had a teacher like the one Chase had in regards to the embouchure.
Joshua Glorioso No shit!!! They have no clue what awesome music is. I get sick and tired of having to listen to singers who are all over the place rather than singing it the way Francis Scott Key intended it to be played or sung. This man is a trumpet God!!!!
Because different people gravitate more towards different styles. From Arturo Sandovals control and precision to this mans twang and vibrato. Different people prefer a different way music is expressed.
I've started working on the Star Spangled Banner this way for football games this coming year and I still get headaches going that high. If only I could play it as easily as he does.
This is really great, dont get me wrong, but Arturo Sandoval's trumpet performance at the Orange Bowl in '09 is a little bit better! Just my opinion. ;)
James Herbert Hey hey hey, calm down. I don't think that comment was meant with any malice or hate or insult. Granted it isn't what I would say but the man can play like so few can when it comes to those upper registers. Don't be so harsh on him. What he said is mild compared to a lot of what is said on UA-cam. Especially when people are arguing. It gets bad. I said it before and I'll say it again, this man is a trumpet God!!!!
As a trumpet player, I will testify that that is even harder to do than i looks.
RageQuitGinger yeah lol
Try the mark zauss ending😂
Just focus use compression and relax and no pressure watch Lynn Nicholson videos on how to play super high he gives really good tips
Look at his cheeks 😭
When he goes into that upper register towards the end, I still get goosebumps. Once a trumpet player, always a trumpet player. But someone like this man takes it to a completely different level, he has God listening to this.
IF ONLY HE TOOK IT UP!
Jennifer Thakur Not to be rude or anything, but what do you mean?
survivrs If he took the HIGH HIGH note up another level ha I would pass out xD
Ryan Thakur Yeah!
Survivrs double C
I was at Wild Wing Cafe this day. This was the game over the speakers. The whole place got dead quiet. Chills
Hey they have one of those 5 minutes from my house I love it its the only one in texas
As being a trumpet player, those notes are unbelievably high and thought to my self "my god he is good".
Dear God,So True There Very High. Must Be Very Challenging For Him.
They aren't super high. I mean, this performance was impressive, but that range was not crazy enough to be outstanding.
It's not impossibly high, but his tone and stability in the range is better than a lot of lead trumpet players
j lindsey damn I wish my range was like that
does anyone else realize how hard those high notes are to hit!
Edgar Avila yes i play trumpet very hard
Not really. I hit em pretty easily. I used to only play high notes when I started
Edgar Avila Listen to Arturo Sandoval.
I tried to hit those notes one time, but they hit me first. #blownchops
francisco moreno typical
Absolutely incredible. The National Anthem already requires some endurance, but he takes it to the next level. His control over the instrument at those high registers are unbelievable.
The only rendition of our anthem so far that made me shed tears :'D
The control he has with his high notes are absolutely astonishing
That high note towards the end is mind blowing!
1:33 every trumpet player that sees this is gonna get chills..absolutely amazing
Sandoval, big time. JM is using FAR too much vibrato- almost to the point of being Jenkinsesque.
+Trisha Blackwood Yeah I agree with you both. The vibrato is too much and Arturo has a MUCH higher range and sounded more clear and pure
I hate JM's sound. I hate the super short staccato and I hate the twangy sound that sounds so unprofessional
Trisha Blackwood I choose Arturo because he didn't use a silver trumpet
I wish this guy could play ever national anthem everywhere. Way better then anyone could ever sing it.
I heard this live and searched it for that reason. Beautiful rendition. Watching it back I couldn't help but notice this was back when Kap was on fire and he standing for the anthem. We ended up losing this game by 13 in Charlotte. Great memories and the anthem was a big part of it.
veteran here. brings a tear to my eye when I hear this. hits me right in the heart
I've played for years and that performance was epic, perfection, and undisputedly mind blowing!! Wow, I still can't believe what I've just heard. Wow, just wow...

The fact that he still had vibrato on those high notes is very hard
Omg I just watched this 5 times and still have goose bumps!!!!
I stop breathing every time i hear those high notes, amazing.
His best national anthem was Game 7 of the 2001 World Series. Up there as one of the best ever.
Jesse and Arturo are the kings of the national anthem
if you don't get chills by 1:50 you ain't human !
And he's chewing gum...
+Koby K He says it keeps his mouth (his words not mine) "moist"
I actually play with gum in my mouth sometimes too. Keeps your jaw active.
saw this guy in concert last night at prescott Jazz festival. Dude is living legend!
Jesse is my uncle and it makes me so proud to see people say things like this. He IS a legend!
Wow kapernick was actually standing
i was thinking the same thing
Gabby Valmoria , b
mcguire would probably stop playing and tell him to stand if it was today
Lmao I just noticed that
It's because he was getting prime time attention. The baby behavior didn't start until his play declined 😂
He did the fatality from 1:25 onwards ...real pro
I think Arturo S. Did a better job
But still Amazing
Flawless victory
Terrific performance - thanks to you for the soul with which you played! AND, the object is greater than us all!
The man that just played the anthem on the trumpet at the Cowboys game reminded me of how great this rendition is. Simply amazing
I remember this day as I was watching the game live. I was floored.
HE NAILED IT!!! Wow! Best Anthem in years!! Gave me chills too. Awesome talent!
Let me guess.. So now you want the D?
K20a2turbocivic Show some respect clown.
So soulful. I LOVE IT!

very pretty G he hit...man that tone was excellent
For anybody who does play a brass instrument you should know that those notes are extremely hard to play. It takes so much air to do that that it would give most people a headache to hold it out that long.
Fantastic. There is another rendition out there with multiple trumpets that is almost as good. Wish I could find it.
Let's just say... AWESOME! That was soooooo incredible my mom listens to it ALL the time!
Hello Robin

@@schuelr Hello
Jessie is awesome I heard him this summer in Trenton New Jersey at the 2014 Special Olympics National USA Games it Was Awesome it was Unforgettable it Put tears to my eyes
I saw 'em in Phoenix.
Number 85 (Vernon Davis?) at 1:52 is like, Daaaayum!. Superb rendition; amazing tone / range...verve and soul! Thanks for posting it.
So beautiful I want to cry.
GREAT WORK dude. I did see THE CLOWN.. STANDING,, for this, REAL MAN..and REAL SONG.GOD BLESS, OUR TROOPS..
The Doctor's been in the amphitheatre; he then exits stratospherically for the celestial a la Maynard Ferguson.
Greatissimo!
Former Tower of Power band member. Awesome chops.
For real. I knew his name was familiar. Thank you Tim - Right On.
I've replayed this like 10x already. Love the trumpet sound.
This left me in tears, truly wonderful
Goosebumps and tears. Every time.
That was so good, Kaepernick stayed standing!
🤓
That was in 2014, before his disrespectful protest
Thanks for posting this!! It's amazing!!!
This guy is in the major leagues. Nice job sir!
This looks really hard too do but being a trumpet player it’s even harder than that
I cry a little everytime I hear this. God bless America.
Wow that's damn good! I just cried
Gave me the chills! Nice!

I remember Jesse as a Tower of Power member, and it's good to see Kap NOT KNEELING during this.
This is just a thing of beauty
This just rocked my world!
Wow. Just...wow. Played from the soul man.
TOWER OF POWER!!!
AWESOME, AWESOME, AWESOME!!!!!!!
Damn ! he hits that double note! I'm a trumpet player also.
Nothing against singers, but this is so much better!
So much more style compares to most others that I've heard.
I going to practice my clarinet.Maybe, just maybe,I will be able to play Pink Panther. I don't think he could have played it any better.
goosebumps all over
Perfection
Absolutely awesome!
How are there people who disliked it?!?!
Al Qaeda infiltrated thats why.
Joshua Glorioso No shit!!! They have no clue what awesome music is. I get sick and tired of having to listen to singers who are all over the place rather than singing it the way Francis Scott Key intended it to be played or sung. This man is a trumpet God!!!!
Joshua Glorioso Because they don't know their scales
Because different people gravitate more towards different styles. From Arturo Sandovals control and precision to this mans twang and vibrato. Different people prefer a different way music is expressed.
Jess Mc Guire was Tower Of Power's lead trumpeter in the 1990s.
It was pretty good, but I kept thinking it was a sax all the time
Best version I hard all morning wow brought me to tears
That is awesome. Fantastic!
America’s national instrument is the trumpet because we are loud and proud... sometimes a little too much
Best in years! That's what its supposed to sound like!
Got so many goosebumps
That guy can play a horn..... unbelievable high notes.......
If you want unbelievable high notes listen to Maynard Ferguson
or Arturo Sandoval
Allen Vizzutti is also really good
Awesome. Chills.
I've started working on the Star Spangled Banner this way for football games this coming year and I still get headaches going that high. If only I could play it as easily as he does.
Already did. Goal for senior year
take it slow bro don't strain your self if you want to be able to go that high while playing long, practice 8 count long tones and arpeggios
that highest note was five bars above the normal scale
Dub G or F6
Ya, but remember, its a trumpet
Amazing!!!!
That gave me the chills
Awesome! He nailed it.
This is really great, dont get me wrong, but Arturo Sandoval's trumpet performance at the Orange Bowl in '09 is a little bit better! Just my opinion. ;)
Let's not argue about titans...
Do my eyes deceive me? Is that...no...Colin Kapernick...standing
GOOSEBUMPS
Those high notes. Holy shit.
fantastic!
"and the home of the brave!"
how cool does your anthem sound on the old trumpet
Very good!!!
Amazing
that kiss-off @ 1:42 is fun to watch.
watching this to revive myself from fergie’s ear bleeding nba all star game
YEAH !
AWESOME!!!
This nigga has some SOUL!
You have NO class with your words! Why not take a course in getting along with others OR just go to a shrink to tell him/her why you are so coarse!
James Herbert Hey hey hey, calm down. I don't think that comment was meant with any malice or hate or insult.
