Only other trumpet players fully understand the insane talent this guy has
Spencer Smith or just anyone that has been in a band
Spencer Smith or anyone that appreciate music.
Good gatekeeping ig
Anyone that plays a musical instrument will appreciate this talent.
They don’t recognize our superiorosity
With gum in his mouth too
Keith Fletcher people who aren’t band nerds don’t understand how hard that is to do😂
Kml
@@stephensharp6886 I did a region band audition with gum in my mouth
This video makes every band director frustrated. I can't count how many times my directors have yelled at someone for chewing gum in class
He swallowed the gum b4 he started playing. Gum chewing b4 a performance is helpful for brass instruments because it helps keep the lips and mouth not dry
You knew the game was gonna be epic after this. The dude playing even inspired himself.
😂
Frr bro!😭
The dude is Jesse McGuire, he’s an absolute legend. He’s played for multiple presidents.
It’s 2019, and still gives me chills.. 🇺🇸

If you play your notes with proper technique you won’t have minced beef lips.
My favorite rendition of the star spangled banner ever.

biggreenblob this was certainly outstanding. Arturo Sandoval also did an amazing job himself. You should check it out if you haven’t already
@@YSG202 I have lol he did amazing as well
Now mine too

Was my mans chewing gum while playing???
he swallowed just before play
Gum chewing while playing the trumpet or cornet is quite common among professionals. It helps to keep the mouth (and therefore the lips) wet and slick. You can’t blowthe trumpet with dry mouth or lips.
mikze123 No he actually didn’t

The roar of the crowd at the end...... I feel such a swell of pride that I tear up. Came at a time where we all needed to stick the landing and this guy delivered and then some. Proud then. Proud now. Proud always.
This is why America is such an amazing place. Real patriotism for a nation that fought for its freedom and independence. It really is something to be proud of.
Even though I am South Korean, I get tears while watching this performance.
I feel angry when I think about the pain that New Yorkers and their families had felt during the 9/11 attacks.
The great thing about the American people is that they are able to subdue pain into courage to win real victory.
The 2001 World Series was a series of legends that were even more meaningful in that respect. God bless America!!
I am South Korean too. But I was adopted, so i have an American name, but i get what you're saying. Also, right now it's probably like really early in the morning for you.😂😂😂
Yes, it sad
AMERICA IS A CONTINENT. NOT A COUNTRY. THE COUNTRY NAME IS UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. IM ARGENTINIAN AND I'M AMERICAN TOO.
hj Chun thank you for your consideration
Jorge Martín umm there is no continent called America. There NORTH America tho
In my opinion the greatest national anthem of all time. It's my favorite rendition and it came before one of the greatest games in baseball history
yeah this or arturo’s
Arturo Sandoval!
Agreed, one of the best renditions of the Star Spangled Banner ever performed.
Love the sound of freedom in the morning
His reaction at 2:13 🔥🔥🔥🔥 straight chills
The greatest national anthem rendition in mlb history!
Arturo Sandoval! The best!
They brought him back for 2023 NLCS Game 3!
Now here we are, 22 years later... and we're going back to the world series!
Let's hope he comes to play again
That is absolutely amazing! And when I thought it couldn’t get any better, a B-2 Spirit flew over the stadium! Wow!
Thought it was an SR 71. I could be wrong though.
You are wrong bro, but no worries, I know it has been 2 years and you are a different person now @@TTundragrizzly
I'm not even American and this gave me goosebumps 👏
I also get goosebumps when I realise I'm not American too 😜
Rejoice in the freedom we all enjoy ❤️
This is my favorite rendition of the national anthem. I don’t care what anybody says. No voice will ever sound better than that.
Mine too
I’m a trumpeter. I’ve been playing for 6 years. I’ve never successfully played anything higher than a high G in a song and not messed the song up. This guy played a high high high G at least. Truly amazing.
He played a double G. That's not out of the normal range for professional trumpet players. Many (Maynard Ferguson, Lynn Nicholson, Arturo Sandoval, Chad Shoopman, and others) hit higher notes, like double C or above.
Arturo Sandoval ,,,
The way he played is it Gives it so much more meaning as it had only been 2 months since 9/11
At about 1:30 I love the crowds reaction when they realize he is about to take it up.
I think they saw the B-2 Spirit Bomber though lol
@@noir4262 the b2 spirit bomber...
@@colinaviation Nah they were cheering because the lyrics for that part of the song are "that our flag was still there"
@@ensomniac nah nah none of us were there so we can't know for sure what really went down
The B-2 would have just been coming into view for the people on the infield side of the stadium, so they started to clap. Bear in mind this was 2001, that plane was still shrouded in mystery, and this was the very first time it had flown over a sporting event. Sure they do it all the time now, but not back then. It was a sight to behold back then.
Wow! Jesse McGuire that was totally awesome. What a great rendition of the National Anthem with that beautiful tone and control.
The most awesome culmination of talent, time, perspective, tragedy, and strength.
This was right after 9/11 and the whole country was patriotic at this point and this was epic
Goosebumps, every single time.
Just got here from Arturo’s national anthem, can’t get enough of these trumpet players.
I don’t care what people say. That’s the most American thing ever. It makes you love your country.
Ohhh how I love my anthem, he killed it. Brought me tears.
UNREAL! The greatest SSB ever played by a Trumpet.
Some of the finest trumpet playing I have ever heard!!!
He nailed it 100%
He sat on the G, and didn't go for the double C
He already was taking the end an octive up but yeah that would have been cool if he did
Great control on them high notes. I remember the difficulty of playing the double c in school. Couldn't hold it for more than a second
I love going to double in the national anthem
If you would like to see that happen, watch Arturo Sandoval perform the star spangled banner
No effort and great tone
His vibrato is so perfect
Such a magical evening that was!!
#GoDbacks
That was the most inspiring version I ever heard in my life! Bravo
I suggest you listen to two other versions: Whitney Houston at the Super Bowl (best vocal version ever) and Arturo Sandoval at the Orange Bowl (best instrumental version ever...and also done on a trumpet).
@@christansdad I listen to the Whitney Houston one so often but the other one I’ve never seen.
@@cole2844
Arturo crushed it
Holy Moses that got the crowd GOIN!!!
Man, the roar of that B2 Bomber along with that trumpet tone and people cheering! What a combo!
I've seen a lot of fantastic renditions of the Star Spangled Banner, from solo vocals, to quartets, to choirs, to instrumental, and this may be the best of all them. Absolutely awesome if every aspect.
I miss those days very much, Rest In Peace grandfather.
Best national anthem rendition of all time
January 19th, 2022...and I'm still feeling chills from this. Still brings tears to my eyes
This is how I start every day - watching this video! Thanks Dr. McGuire!! 🇺🇸🎺
My second favorite “Doc” to ever touch a trumpet!
I’ll never forget seeing this when I was a kid. This was shortly after September 11th. Definitely one of the greatest if not THE greatest SSB performance on a Baseball Diamond. God Bless you Jesse McGuire!
Power all day
The fireworks, the bomber, the flag, the cheering, the anthem. That's about as American as it gets.
Jesus christ he made that trumpet sound like a damn saxophone BEAUTIFUL tone quality and control goosebumps for sure
*almost
And that’s a good thing? (asking for a friend)
Yes in this scenario of his version of the national anthem i'd consider it a good thing. @@brianswitzer
On the sax you just have to push the right valves in. On the trumpet it's about tongue, lips, air control :-)
@@fedup1972bruh you ever play the sax? its a lot harder then pushing some buttons. think before you comment, kid.
Such beauty and power!
I was a Trumpet player, French horn player, Flute player and now I’m a piano player and I understand how much talent this guy has
Got to see Jesse playing the national anthem multiple times out at PIR throughout the 90s. Incredible emotion every time, glad this video is here to save an even more monumental time for the US and Phoenicians. That world series was an epic battle and then weeks later to see U2 and witness Randy walk the trophy out on stage….🤯🎉
Full body chills!
Every musician's god-send day!!!
as a trumpet player I think, this is just perfection. with the firework and the B2 😂
Absolutely no better version of the Star Spangled Banner than how Jesse nailed this…if this didn’t give you goosebumps then you should be checking your pulse to make sure you’re still alive…100% perfection
I wish you could come out and play an encore for our broken country , we all need it right now.
This whole video I cry to every time.
Watching this again in August 2020 and it brought me to tears by the end 😔
The emotion of this performance goes through the roofs when you remember that this is the first World Series after the September 11th attacks.
He is brilliant I got to hear him in New Jersey in 2014 absolutely beautiful it puts tears to your eyes
I was moved to tears the first time I heard this
That was beyond words! Wow! Thank you.
I was at a bar in Chandler that night for the game. I’ve saved this performance and shared it at every opportunity. I’m not a musician or athlete. I’m not even African American or whatever the preferred term is today. I’m just a man with cancer now who still can feel the chills and tears just like 22 years ago . My three boys were toddlers then, but they feel it now as well. Not sure there’s a higher compliment.
Chills every time I watch this...amazing.
Boy if that B-2 flyover don't give you chills then nothing will.
Still gets me, what a moment.
This right here is why America is the greatest country of all. Amazing anthem, fireworks and fighter jets!
Wonderful! I also love the way the late great Al Hirt performed it.
Best instrumental version I ever heard
..
He puts fergie to shame🤣🤣
Fergie puts Fergie to shame
Thought all of you were talking about Maynard at first and was about to be upset. Quite certain Maynard likely inspired him, and many others.
Tears come out my eyes,
Best trumpet version I've ever heard!
As a fan of Arturo Sandoval , Jesse s had similar range but also more soul
Beautiful job Mr. McGuire.
Got the chills. What an amazing feeling must of been for him! 👏👏👏
Amazing God given talent !! Loved it!!❤
Where's my fellow trumpet players who truly know how FREAKING AWESOME THIS IS!
I love when he goes up an octave and keeps it up there. Tremendous! I got to go to Game 1 of that series. I missed Game 7, but I did get to see Jesse perform with Esteban at the Grand Hyatt in Scottsdale. What a treat!
it was a tough year... he really lit everyone up :)
The entirety of how Jesse nailed
it is so fond to me. I have lived and heard him. Your song is quite the creed.
I got to hear him in 2014 at my national games closing ceremony in New Jersey he is fantastic best national anthem ever puts tears to your eyes.
We need this at Chase Field again this week. Go Diamondbacks!
213 people can't reach that high note
When you hear this , it really gives you the feeling on why America really has that patriotism, there's just that inspiring notes that come from brass, the bugle, the cornet , the trumpet that just puts a shiver and a kick into your soul.
Gives me chills every single time
Country reeling from 9/11…The flyover…The sizzle/nails of the performance…The crowd absolutely giving it up for last 30”…And his emotional release afterward/that we were all feeling makes THIS the best rendition of the Star Spangled Banner for all time.
I even stood up when I heard this and am from Scotland 🏴
Amazing, there shouldnt even be a thumbs down button for videos like this, the fact the some people clicked blows my mind away.
That is playing from the heart
This guy gave me the chills
I live just south of the dbacks stadium, when we where watching it on tv and all of a sudden saw the stealth bomber flying over the stadium, we all ran out to the back yard. That plane made a right turn to head back to Luke AFB right over the neighborhood, still puts a knot in my throat after almost 20 years.
Did you hear him playing the trumpet?
Or did you just see the plane
Here it is, 2024, and I had never seen this performance. I also played the trumpet and I can't even call myself a trumpet player after hearing this. I thought that I was good until 10 minutes ago. I started a little band whilst in the United States NAVY and I found connections in Oahu(My ship's home was Pearl Harbor)and was GIVEN, AT NO CHARGE, all of the sheet music that we needed before deployment of 6 months. All I can say is that we had fun. But, to hear a performance of this song, not even 2 months after 9/11, PLAYED BY A LEGEND, WITHOUT MISSING A SINGLE NOTE, was an AMAZING EXPERIENCE FOR ME AND ALL OF YOU AS WELL. GOD BLESS YOU ALL AND YOUR FAMILIES, AND GOD BLESS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA 🇺🇸 🙏🏻🙏🏻
What a gift. God bless you brother that was very awseome
It’s 2021 and I still get chills down to my spine watching this. I wish America was together like we ALL were here. Hopefully someday
💥THAT WAS BADASS‼️‼️‼️🎺
Such a big day for us Arizonians.. i remember Jesse being our “good luck charm. Fun fact; i used to go to school with his son and i remember seeing Dad in his office and all his equipment.. so happy for them!
We were band mates oh so many years ago. I return to this and his other videos to remind me how awesome he is as a musician and a fine person. God blessed Jesse with amazing talents. God bless America. 🇺🇸
Now here we are, 22 years later... and we're going back to the world series!
Let's hope they have him play again
