- I finally caved and got a 2005 Furby, well more precisely a 2006 Funky Furby, in green and purple. I called him Fuzzynub.
In this video I run through all his commands and also have a look at the pros and cons of these Tiger Electronics Furbys from the early 2000s.

I like how te older Furbys actually were less annoying voice wise. With these oldies, you can actually make sense of them & even start a conversation, while the newer Furby's just babble, almost completely ignoring what you say most of the time.
Plus, why'd they remove the off switch? I understand Furby Connects have a sleep mask, but it's like the idea of off and on completely went away with the Furby Boom.
It was nice that the older Furbys could recognize your voice and pay attention to you. I hope they bring that back in a future generation.

The 90’s furbies can only tell if there is or isn’t sound. They can’t make out words. They only communicate with each other using the sensor on their forehead.
I've found them cutie at the first time, but the interaction is very limited compared to the original ones and the new ones too :(

They’re still real cute, though! I think their reduced interactivity is due to the voice commands. That was new in 2005, and the technology wasn’t nearly as fine-tuned as it is now.
The Funky Furby reminds me of Tattletail.

Hilarious. Reminds me of an obese chicken crossed with a rabbit. I like how it got all sullen after you told it you didn't want yet another song. C'mon dance Furby dance! Really like the eye movement & blinking. The snoring is hysterical. Very cool.

I screamed when I saw the thumbnail. Not only do I have the exact same Funky Furby as you but also I never thought you would get one!
I also have the Pink & Yellow one too but I gave it to my disabled brother.

I didn't have the colorful ones though, I had a black and white one, a grey one, and a white one. (That one is broken though.. just repeats what it said upon first turning on over and over.)
I have this exact kind of Furby, too. Loved him when I was a kid. Pulled him out of storage after being put away for a few years, gave him new batteries. He's a little bit grouchy at the moment haha.

The Funky ones were pretty hard to find because they made less of them. Did the screw hole break on your battery covers too? I'm curious to see whether this is a common problem with them.
Silvolf this seems like a pretty common problem. both of my 2005 furbies screw hole broke. The little piece of plastic that helps the cover stay on broke on one. Now I can't talk to them. These were poorly designed. I've had mine since I was 4 in 2005 and I guess they got me started collecting furbies. :) 15 total but Each version has their own kinks ;)
Thanks for the info. I'm hoping the other bit of plastic won't break. It's silly that they were so poorly designed in that way. Also that they used plastic that erodes so fast. I mean they are only ten years old. Yes, that's true but at least the other versions don't seem to break in that way. If the other piece of plastic goes on Fuzzynub, Dad might be able to fix it again but it would be more difficult.

One tip I found with the 2005 Furby at least, if he doens't dance (or do whatever action you want) tell the Furby you love him and he'll be more cooperative.

I agree, the voice recognition is really good for its time. The way it talks is a bit unsettling to me, though, how there's so much space between its words. But I love the shape of it; it looks very huggable! And it's so cute when it wobbles! I think the side-to-side movement may have influenced the Furby Connects?
The side to side movement may have influenced the Furby Connects. I like that these guys know if they have been turned upside down or picked up but they get a bit upset when their feet aren't on the ground. Its voice does sound a bit unsettling at times.

the songs of this furby are so cute! i recently got a 2005 but now i might have to get a funky furby too...
The Funky sings different songs to the 2005 so if you like them, I really recommend it!
i think it would be cool if someone made a game called one night at silvolf's which is like 5 nights at freddy's except there is only one night but instead of being only 7 minutes long, the night is 25 minutes long and you have to keep some of silvolf's robots and furbies from getting into the office to break things and you have 2 doors on the sides of the room and a vent in front of you that the enemies attack through
when the night begins, everyone are sleeping in the entire apartment but you can't hear them snoring and a paper appears on your office's desk that says "to guard: thank you for helping me guard my paintings for a few hours before i come back-signed, silvolf" and after you close the message fussby in the living room wakes up and very slowly moves towards your left door
halfway through 12:00 AM, potato in the lounge wakes up and goes to the kitchen to distract you from hearing salvo preparing to move by making a mess and making sounds like chica does in 5 nights at freddy's and you can get her out of there by watching her through the kitchen camera and then she will go back to the lounge camera
when the clock strikes 1:00 AM, you hear a clock's hour chime and then salvo in your bedroom starts himself up and you will hear a faint song playing in the office and the music gets louder if you look at the bedroom camera and salvo moves slightly faster than fussby, but he can move up to 2 rooms closer to you before his battery dies, but he fortunately can recharge himself by not moving for 15 seconds and then he plays his startup music again
nothing interesting happens before 5:00 AM is reached, which is when a boss (loo-bay) in the bathroom wakes up and everyone moves extremely fast and loo-bay can distract you by randomly playing pointless app videos on your monitor so you can't stop potato or check where people are
when you survive until 6:00 AM, you win!
That's a great idea for a game! I wish it was real!
But....... which software are the aibos on?
I can make a game like that when I can get the crack for clickteam fusion to work!

I love these! I think they look way more like " animals" then the ones with electronic eyes meaning the screen ones. These are so cute and look quite real

Ah nice! I've not seen the Funky Furbies, I only ever saw the 2005 version :) Mine was black and white, if I recall ^^ I think I called him Nee-Tye, since he was quite fond of being tickled xD
I like the style of these, they're much more...organic? Almost like a believable creature rather than the cartoonish regular Furbies :) The voice is alright, but it seems more like they're just stringing words into a sentence rather than talking - not so much when they're singing, though ^^ I'd definitely recommend getting one of the standard 2005 Furbies, though I'm not sure if they can interact with each other...no idea! I _do_ know that there's also Furby Baby versions of these, but they're a whole new level of odd-looking xD
One tip I have for these is to talk slowly and not too loud or quiet - they're good at picking up your commands, but sometimes they can be very picky about when they'll hear you :)

Yeah I like that they tried to make them more realistic and animatronic with more natural movements. I will definitely get a regular one as well when I have some more money. I think they sound more natural when they sing because the songs are set phrases and not strung together. Omg the baby ones look really weird, I am not getting one of those lol!
I was surprised at how well he takes the commands. He only didn't pick up the I Speak Furbish because I forgot to say Hey Furby and the dancing he didn't do because apparently you need to have a song playing for him to dance to.

Definitely more realistic, yeah! I rather liked the fact that the beak corners could move to show smiling and frowning. Added a level of detail without being too far into the uncanny valley ^^ Hehe they are rather odd-looking! xD

I have three regular 2005 Furbys and one of the 2005 babies that I got as a child, I really should try getting a Funky Furby sometime, those songs were adorable!
It is unfortunate that the battery compartment is so poorly designed on 2005 Furbys. I have to use a lot of strength to hold down on it when I put batteries in mine. On a more positive note, the purring sound 2005 Furbys make when you pet them is the cutest, most precious thing ever.
Hope you can get a Funky as well! I love the purring sound too, it's so cute and unique! The battery compartment is annoying and it breaks really easily as well, which is a shame. Luckily there is a company that makes sturdy replacements.

They're pretty cool. You can get them on eBay but be careful when you buy one that the battery compartment isn't broken.
Silvolf Yeah, I've seen a lot of them on Ebay that are broken and are just for parts. I think I've found a perfect white and tan one, though!
I have the exact same problem with the battery boor, but while trying to fix the screw problem the clip-in section on the opposite end snapped off so now I have to try and find a solution to that too. The bad thing is I only just got it earlier today and now I can't even see if it works until I manage to fix the battery door.
Oh no :( I was dreading the other side of the battery door breaking. I'm glad mine is ok. The design is so bad, it makes me wonder why they would make two generations of something so flawed. I guess they didn't think the plastic would age and become as brittle as fast.
Silvolf I only paid $20 in AUD for it so I am honestly not too disappointed, I was aware before I bought it that the battery door is a problem with those furbies but I wasn't expecting the thing to literally burst open sending the batteries it did have inside it flying across the floor, and that is what broke it. Even if I can't fix it, its still an awesome part of my collection. : )

I grew up with a furby just like this one... personally out of all the furbys I find this one the creepiest but I still love them. I miss my furby lol

The great grey (or should I say purple and green) Owl is the world’s largest owl, and this subspecies likes mayonnaise, which is why it can produce music even though there are NO INSTRUMENTS IN SIGHT.

Your furby seems to speak english already, reset it and see how he will learn. It's one of the coolest things about 2005 furbies as they swap ANg/Furb words around!

Haven't got the Funky Furby - I have at least three of the 2005 Furbys - the original 2005 Furby only knows one song - Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star - sometimes he sings it in Furbish, sometimes English, but usually in a combination of both - has no instrumental background, either - there's also a weird game called Red Light, Green Light - you just say to him, after "Hey, Furby", "Let's play a game" - this means that, when he says "Red light!", you don't do anything - but, if he says "Green light!", you tickle him!
As for interactivity, where the original Furbys could talk to other Furbys, Furby Babies, Shelbys, Gizmos and ETs - and they responded - the 2005 Furbys are supposed to be able to talk to each other - but you have to put their tummies together - can't seem to get mine to do it.
That generation's Furby Babies - all they ever do is eat and sleep - wake them up, they want feeding - then, having fed them, they go back to sleep - every one of them looks like Michael Parkinson!
The later generations of Furby from 2005 onwards can't interact properly with anything earlier or later than its own generation!
Also, the Furbish lyrics of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star differ slightly between the 2005 version and Funky Furby - the original version says "doo-kah way-nah u-nye boh" - the Funky Furby sings "doo-kah wah-nah u-nye boh!".

Yeah I've heard people have trouble making them talk. It's a funny thing putting their tummies together. I wonder how they talked then, if it was by infra red like the 1998 Furbys and the fur was so thick that they had to be touching or something.
I saw a video of one, it didn't look that interesting and the vocabulary seemed limited. I guess real babies only really eat and sleep though. Lol Michael Parkinson, that made me laugh XD
That's interesting it's slightly different. I do like the fact the Funky Furby plays music although it's odd listening to it. It sounds crackly. Whether that is just the quality of the recording or the age, I'm not sure.

also if you turn on the closed captions when fuzzynub sings it is really funny (but you may need to wait until the 2nd song because it just says [music])
Lol the captions are often funny
underneath the rubber beak of the funky furby is another plastic beak that is the same general color and shape except the sides have plastic rods that stretch the rubber beak when the furby smiles or frowns and the plastic beak has rubber bands on the sides that keep the beak shut and it also keeps the rubber beak flat and there is also a button in the plastic beak that you press with the spoon (or your finger) to feed the furby
the origional furbies move their beaks by behind the beaks are two plasic rods that pull on the beaks which are hinged to the endoskeleton of the furby
for the modern furbys there is only one beak motor and it opens the beak by i think pulling on it but ive seen a furless furby connect before on youtube and there was a motor just below the bottom beak

ive seen a 2012 furby with no beak and, *IT LOOKS SUPER SCARY!!!!!!!* but basically there are actually two rods that move the bottom beak and there is nothing under the top beak

furby channel has a funky furby in this color and he has a broken battery compartment too but she fixed it with a metal strip and his beak is stuck open and the rubber is chipped in some areas and when the beak moves it makes a loud noise

i am now playing furby boom and i learned the furby boom and crystal can recognize the sounds coming from the app; before i thought it uses bluetooth like the furby connect
Yeah it's all down to the tiny noises made by the app
you can exploit this by trying to mimic the sounds
but i still believe that the furby boom/crystal learns its name through bluetooth because i remember in you furby boom with app first look video i didn't seem to hear the name (tay tah) and they learn the names of other furbies through the same method

some 2005/2006 furbies had a demo position on their on/off switch that allows store customers to interact with it by tickling the stomach and then the furby will say 1 of 2 phrases: \
the 1st one is "you happy see me hmmm?" if you say yes then the furby will say "yay!"
the 2nd phrase is i think "me you friend, hmmm?" and if you say yes then the furby will giggle

Did you know that you can teach this Furby new words? I taught mine the word "baby," by surrounding mine with Burger King furbies and told him/her, "Look! It's your babies!" Then Furby learned that word and it made me happy back then. XD
Just talk to them for a while and they can eventually learn some English words.

Ah, thanks. That's kind of a shame, I like the furby names but I can just pick one of those anyway. Mine just arrived and looks kind of miserable about how dirty it is.
Oh dear. Have you tried cleaning it with a damp cloth? It might help get some of the dirt off.
yeah, it's mostly clean now. Just looks like it wanted some ginger highlights. Adds character I guess

although this color of a funky furby is rare it was the first funky furby color ive seen and the second one is similar to this color combination except the fur is more pink than purple
