Love that you chose to add more human heads over those helmets you were thinking about. I really believe its Tau helmet or no helmet. They are just too iconic to make a Tau unit with any other helmet. Plus adding more human heads really sells the fact that this is a Human squad under those helmets.
I did do a couple of squads of Tau/Cadian mix, using the torso of the fire warriors and a helmet for the sergeant, then legs and arms from the Cadians. With sergeant and another equipped with a pulse rifle and the rest human weapons. I did want to kitbash more but just never got around to it
Interesting headcannon here, but the fingers thing could be seen as these humans wear special gloves to reflect their Tau counterparts with the middle and ring finger in a single sleeve.
Another reason people use the old cadians is firewarrior arms fit them perfectly. Literally, it's the same. Same base size too, helmets similar size, and there's a back plate for the backpack.
Wish I’d thought of that before I spent an hour green stuffing the tiniest fingers. Min you if I’d of done that I’d probably get people saying I had the wrong amount of fingers. 😂
I had been modifying Kroot to fit a Escher gang for Necro, but I am far too lazy to actually kit bash, so I instead used Udo's and printed custom models.
This makes me want to experiment with some spare Tau helmets. Maybe try sanding the backs of the heads to where the helmets have a distinct human shape but the front is still recognizably Tau
I did mine with a van saar box. The bodies were the perfect width for holding guns in two hands and I just head canon the 3 fingers as them wearing gloves inspired by their tau benefactors
I’d love to see a Crisis suit with the middle pod shooting rockets and seeing the smoke and the rockets flying everywhere. Or just a guide on how to do something like that so I could do it myself.
Hey mate, as an idea for the 3rd riptide if you feel like it, you could have a look at gouf flight type. I feel it looks fairly tau'y whilst also cool or the asshimar is also quite goofy but cool and even z'gok

I was thinking of doing this for some time now! Really inspired me to go out and get all the pieces. I also want to try add on some custom made/printed shoulder pads to really give it that asian-warrior feel~
Interesting conversions, only problem could be either the shoulder pads, too big, and the Tau helmets, different in size from human's ones. Naturally there are a lot of aftermarket kits that could fit for the figures.
Necromunda kits are grear. I kitbashed escher gangers with genestealer cult heads for my warband. I kind of want to make tau genestealers one of these days!

The fire warrior bodies are a little small for the human parts now with state of scale creep. The old guard were a lot smaller than the hoomies of modern warhammer. 🙂
