Anyway I’ve just started building baseboards for my TT stuff using the precut plywood kits. Another revelation after 30 year’s absence!
Those kits are a cracking idea.
The class 50 Gbrf and mk2e are due in 2025, the new catalogue is for 2024 and they said they only want to do short term releases. I reckon that they’ll be back in the 2025 announcements.

Nice review. Thanks. Annoyingly I have some of the the dropped items on order at the old price and 15% discount (Class 50 GBRF, 21T Mineral Wagons). If these have really been discontinued, it will cost me a lot more to order the alternatives.
Don’t panic, I’ve been informed all pre-orders should be completed no problem. Also any pre-orders for items still available on the website that haven’t made it into this years catalogue.
Good summary Chris. Despite "wanting" lots of my favourite locos & coaches, I think Hornby are doing well with TT releases. I much prefer the "we'll announce what can be delivered in next 6-9 months" approach. Rather than waiting a year or 3 for something they have announced. They will never please everybody.
The next question is what surprises do we get later this year.
- a DMU mayb?
- Do they complete the initial LNER stable with Gresley Teak / Blood & Custard coaches?
- Or do they placate the disgruntled GWR fraternity with 0-6-0T Pannier tank, Castle & collet coaches?
I'd speculate the GWR stull will be before the Gresley coaches.
For a frieght set I think GWR Pannier tank, in green, would be more popular than the J50 (only in black) with the kids.

A couple of comments on the catalogue, plus some wider thoughts -
1. The GBR class 50 TT3015M is still available on the website. My pre-order is still active.
2. There were a number of GWR buildings listed for future release in last year's catalogue. These are missing now.
I'll be really interested to see what happens re future sets. I'm wondering if a future small freight set will be with a (blue?) Class 08 or a J50.
Re the British Pullman - perhaps Hornby could offer a "Blue Pullman" liveried HST in a set? That would be fabulous!
Looks like Accurascale were playing re the TT120 figures, but they're clearly still watching the market. This is a neat way to get some feedback too. Fingers crossed.

Thanks for doing this, Chris. As a generally eras 7+8 modeller, there's a nice trickle without being overcome (ie overspent!). This allows me to inject some funds into my Swiss and French interests, at their eye-watering prices!

Hi Peachy. What? Speak up, old chap. Also, we can only see half of you in the inset (still luv ya!). While I get Hornby selling train SETS, I would like to see some train PACKS (in addition to the HST ones) as I'm sure modellers don't always want the track and controller, etc. I wish the Digital Club would email either the magazine itself, or at least a reminder that the latest version is available. Old fogies like me sometimes struggle to remember to visit the site to download it!

a lot of people getting "back into the hobby since they were kids" probably are not really train nerds. they probably just want a plug and play system to get them started and dont really care about the difference between a mk2E and mk2F so the information overload on them is probably a reason to slim the offering down
You may be right
Perhaps they have removed some stock from the catalogue as it’s sold out on pre order, and they need remaining stocks to send to retailers for their pre orders. No point advertising stuff that’s sold out. Hence maybe why different numbered versions are replacing them. Regarding the diesel locos they 31, 37, 47, 60, 67, and 73, they are just in numerical order…..
You didn't mention the container wagons are 50p cheaper if bought from Arnold don't know why but 50p is a saving.and your tt login should work and you get rewards too if in the scheme.

Just bought the Accurascale research team, I'm in agreement with what you said. And if Accurascale dont enter the TT market, you owe me a beer or three, right? 😀 Either way I think they owe you some commission!
Worth noting Accurascale have the exact same figures for sale in oo at the same price, so anyone buying, make sure you get the right ones.

Hi Chris. I've just ordered some of the new buildings which have recently come into stock - the pub and a few of the smaller buildings. There appears to be a bit of confusion between whether there are two terraced houses (right and left hand) and one shop (bookshop) or one terraced house and two shops (bookshop and photographer). The website and catalogues appear to show different. Anyway, who knows?! I'll just have to see what arrives! I must say they seem to have made random choices in which kind of shops to model first. If it were me I'd introduce the essential services first ie. grocers, post office etc. Strange having a village with no services apart from a bookshop and photographer! Anyway whatever. I've not ordered the church as I have the first Hornby Scaledale OO church which on release was widely criticised for being terribly underscale so I'm hoping it will work for TT. Regarding the Accurascale figures I really don't know what's going on there and can't see the point of them. I thought it was an April fool at first. They have stated in a comment on the facebook post about said figures that they will not be venturing into TT. I would love them to come on board and strengthen the range but I really can't tell what they're up to. Personally I won't be buying the figures. I'd rather spend the £15 down the pub! 😂

I suspect you may be right about the BR blue 08 being in a small goods set.
Other possible sets I can imagine coming out over the next few years:
- Flying Scotsman and/or Mallard (or other A1s/A4s) with Gresley coaches when they're ready?
- GWR 5700 Pannier for a steam goods set?
- Hornby like GWR sets so when the Castles and Collett coaches come out I can see that being a set too.
- How about either a LMS crimson lake Duchess (of Hamilton?) and/or or Black 5 set with some LMS coaches?
- Britannia class with Mk1 blood & custards? Or Pullmans?
- Class 37 in BR blue with matching Mk1s?
Most of the above were big sellers in OO and that's what Hornby are doing to get TT off the ground, initially choosing stuff they know sells well in OO.
- I'd love to see a TT version of the operating mail coach. Always very popular in OO and would go well with three of the sets I've suggested above.
- 21T Grey mineral wagons. Maybe they'll replace these with Era 3 16T ones? Some 3 plank wagons might be nice too.

The GBRf is showing as a 2025 release date on the website maybe that’s why it’s been dropped from the catalogue, been data crunching

Figures ordered, which got me in the mood so I hopped onto Hornby 's site and ordered 3 more Total wagons.

The listing and pictures of the J50s are actually the correct eras. However they still have the era wrong on the GWR Castle class.

other "defiant" models have been exclusive to the 50 fund for their initial release so that might be the same again. The n gauge Defiant was the same.

Are the Home Signals listed as £9.99 and the Distant Signals £11.99?

They are on the site, but not easy to find. Do a search for signals and the pay come up half way down the results page. No idea why the distant ones are more expensive.
Probably further back in the warehouse LOL. Odd that the single and double signals are the same price.

Or alternatively the blue 08 sold out and they don’t have production capacity to build more . Maybe the GBRf 50 is sold out (like the blue 08) and also not listed but still coming. The drop down of the 47 into “others” is disappointing . A loco in a huge amount of liveries that you can run from 1962- it’s a no brainer . More than a 31 ! I cant understand why they were doing 2es and 2fs at the same time . Strange Kohler choice . Don’t think he really had a clue on anything post 1955

My guess is the class 47s have suffered some sort of production delay. These are usually down to third parties (the Chinese factories, their suppliers, etc) rather than Hornby themselves, so out of their hands.
Hornby use a variety of factories in different regions of China and often those in one region have issues that those in other regions don't. Hence why some new models are delayed and others aren't.
Typically delays are down to covid lockdowns, material shortages or issues spotted when the first CAD model is received.
