Yep. Humble gentleman with the goal of enjoyment of listening to music. He has made thoughtful choices. Best of all...He's a Maggies guy! Love it and thanks to Steve and Scott!
I agree with many others on here , by showing others systems and talking about them is really great . Great video looking forward to more and hopefully more like this .
This rig represents MUSIC to me. Fun, no pretentious or snobbish foo-foo, an owner that knows what he wants. An owner that has gear long-term and not neurotically swapping components every few months. A MUSIC lover, not a STATUS or GEAR lover. And importantly: not someone that is in the industry selling you something.

Wonderful video; two guys hanging out talking music and equipment. This is what makes the hobby great not a debate between Audiophile equipment vs high end equipment. Cheers.
I really enjoy seeing real people's rigs over highend audio show set ups. Great video, love too see how people cobble together a system over time. Can't stand store bought systems, purchased in one shot. The most I have every bought at once is a power amp and pre amp. Everything else is one piece at a time and trail and error. Not efficient but in my experience gives the best end result.
Nice video Steve & Scott. For me the gear isn't the journey but the music and your ever changing taste in music is. What helps is having a system one can still enjoy after a high end show trip. Would be nice to see more videos with a similar format.
I also live in nyc and just found a pair of Maggie .5/QR's on the sidewalk in the UWS among some trash bags (100% true story). Surprisingly they sound wonderful and have no issues. Cheers, audiophiles
Awesome system Scott! I'm just poking a little fun. That's one of the most unique turntables I've ever seen. It makes my old AR look like a dinosaur. Enjoy!
It's nice to see a real person who enjoys listening to music and not the equipment that reproduces it...No offense Steve ...you're still the man. Please make more vids like this...!!
Enjoyed the video but would find it fun to have had a record put on and listen to a song. Just for ambiance. Like to see more of the system and it’s scale in the room. Cheers!
OK .. Great interview with Scott.. Inquiring minds want to know: 1) What mods to MMG's? 2) How were sonics affected? 3) How do modified MMG's compare to your .7's? 4) How did his Turntable/cartridge compare with others you've heard? ... Thanks
Peter Gunn invented the wood and XO mods to Magnepans. This must be who he copied. Here is a link to his website - www.indiespinzone.com/magnestand.html
I got them done as well, with the most expensive crossover parts as well. It is. HUGE change to the MMG, mainly in how it plays. No longer beams, has bass. Looks great.
How about giving some thought to the fact that most people can only afford a small boombox and they're not spawns of the devil for that cause that's what you're all making them out to be
Nice setup. Those Maggies have the infamous Gunn mod. The hardwood frame is to absorb energy rather than re-radiate it like the factory MDF. Also uses a completely different crossover design.I think one key to getting vinyl to sound good (beside proper setup) is a vacuum record cleaner. Digital doesn't have to suck, now that engineers figured out a few years ago that the source of the sound being unpleasant in many ways was due to 'jitter'. I have heard digital playback system w/ newer ultralow jitter DACs that sound spectacular. I took a deep dive back into vinyl a few years back, and loved it, but ultimately sold it all, as I just didn't have the time. (Regs P3-24 + Denon high output MC)
I keep or just give away my gear, most of my stuff is used and/or thrift store finds.....and most of it is actually worth keeping. Ive rarely bought new except my huge new towered speakers "horn tweeters that I adore" and they are just so powerful.....15" woofers....love them.

Thanks you Scott....and Steve. One of the best yet. Question for Scott...does he get to pull the MMG's away from the wall when there is no camera around, or is the 'just what it is living in NYC?' (I'm originally from the Upper West Side, so I get it). I wanted MMG's years ago but knew room placement and size would not pass the WAF... AND...what Parris George said below...FUN
What got away. Used Pro Ac towers. Just couldn't bring myself to make that jump. 3k used. Have been satisfied with my used 1.6 Magnepans. Still wonder what the Pro Ac would have sounded like. Driving with Parasound
A nice system, very appropriate for the room size. Lot's of little tweaks to improve sound, but Scott has overlooked arguably the most important aspect...Speaker placement. The speakers need to be moved forward in front of the cabinet so that sound won't reflect off the sides, creating an unwanted early reflection.
My Peachtree Nova 300 has gone up in smoke twice. I've owned it two years and for 8 months of that time its been in for repair. Would love to try a pre-amp but it is my experience that doing so would likely cause a Peachtree melt down.
Woo hoo! Another Nova 300 owner. I still stand by my belief that the integrated reference quality DAC in the Peachtree is as good, if not better than, any separate standalone DAC I've heard.
It might have been interesting to show the room (small with lot of fourniture ?) and the place where to be seated for listening. As well, the magnepan seem to be rather close to the wall. Do they stay there when playing ? Thanks for sharing your videos. Bravo. (Patrick - New-Caledonia)
Patrick ARNON increases bass response, especially people that don’t use a dedicated sub (or set of subs) Recommended distance in the manual doesn’t always translate well in reality 😉
QUESTION: In the late 1980's I had a VHS VCR made by I think Panasonic that could be used exclusively as a recording tape deck. It's S/N specs were on par with CD players but recorded in analog. Does anyone remember them, do you think they were any good and should have been more popular in consumer audio systems, and does anyone know where I might locate one for purchase?!?! I thought it was a really nice piece of equipment for analog recording, Steve what do you think? 😎
There was a digital audio recorder; it was made by Technics (Panasonic). It used VHS tapes and was strictly for audio, using an analog to digital converter, and then recording the digital audio on VHS tapes. It was supposed to sound really good, but never really became popular because it was an all in one unit. The preference at that time was to use a separate analog to digital converter and a VHS or Beta deck which could be easily replaced or fixed if there was a problem. I had a Sony PCM-F1 which was a separate unit.
Alesis made the ADAT recorder that used S-VHS tapes to record up to 8-tracks of digital audio. As they were for studio use the ins and outs were pretty good quality. You can probably find those cheap on eBay.
You guys are confusing several issues. Yes, VHS and Beta type formats have been used digitally. But it is ALSO true that VHS HiFi stereo is a helical scan (LOTS of tape) analog format that should be on par with big, fat reel to reel tapes. But HiFi nerds never really got into VHS that much.
Yes... Maggies store quite nicely close to a wall. For listening purposes one would move them to their designated position within your listening area. The speakers are not that difficult to move. Hope that helps.
Maggies sound best 2 or more feet away from the wall. Since the little ones are so light you can move them out when you play music, move them back when you're done.
I really like the visiting idea and enjoyed this video. HOWEVER, 6 or so videos back, I invited Steve to my home for an M.A.D. Vic Verdi Neither ... Adcom are great amps but lack protection circuitry. I know many will tell you “they rarely fail so no worries” If I give you a revolver with one bullet, and tell you to aim at your speakers . Would you ? I bet not. And if you do want to go crown, go for the 1502 and up (I use a 2502xls to drive my 18inc jbl subs) reason I say this. You get somewhat better the numbers when passing up on the 1002. I also own magnepan mmgi, mg2 and the legendary tympani I been there too on amplifier choices.
