this dance is re-new traditional vietnamese dance base on the background music of Nguyen Le & Huong Thanh composed on the traditional song in the North of Vietnam. just only the clothes is traditional in the North of Vietnam.
Thank you for your comment;-) My housband is Vietnamese and teach me traditional vietnamese music . I love it really and sing originally Quan Ho Bac Ninh where he is from ! This performance is really beutyful but with original instruments it sounds better in my ears - and I have every right to say my opinion like everybody else!
This is one of the most beautiful viet contemporary dance. I feel like a pink lotus moves mildly in the swamp and try to express their words. Nice facial expression. Thanks from neighbouring Thailand!
@ jackyvix Vietnam does have basic dance movements that every Vietnamese dance based on. This distinguishes Vietnamese dance from that of China and Thai.
I want to thank you for sharing this with us ! But why you use this modern musical instuments ?? It sounds so much nicer with the real vietnamese instuments because it's authentic.I am a German .I was in Bac Ninh and had the honour that I could sing with the singers there .I love your culture and your music ! You can be prout about it !! ;-))
This version of "Co La" is by Huong Thanh, a French-Vietnamese singer. You can find the song on iTunes under the name "The Soaring of the Heron". It's on her 1999 CD called Moon and Wind.

Huong Thanh is an ethnic Vietnamese singer from France. She and her band are famous throughout Europe for their melding of traditional folk songs and jazz.
first, this is not traditional dance. rather this is highly stylized, but the core is still dance movements in traditional theater (e.g. 3:45, which reflects a girl walking daintily) Second, this may not be a court dance. the girls are wearing common clothes worn on festival occasions. thirdly, the name of the song is "Cò lả", which means Swinging storks. it is a traditional lullaby of northern delta (somewhere aroung Hà Nội).
@Great. Another western telling the Asian artists his or her opinion. How do you know that if modern instruments were available in the early reaches of time, that the originators of the song and dance wouldn't have used exactly this arrangement. Please let them alone. This is a marvelous performance--it is not only for you.
can it be?... they've mastered the mating dance of the fighting fish.. the way they sway in their long fluorescent sheets as if underwater caught in the breeze of the current" swaying to the motion of they ocean beautiful art
wrong, the dress called " AO tu than" with "ao yem" is worn inside. One of traditional costumes of northern vietnamese. AO dai is derived from Ao NGu than which was created based on Ao Tu than.
@RandomlyConnected That's the Yama Zatdaw I think you're thinking of. I see some similarities to some Burmese dances. Burma does has a nice rich dance history much is based on buddhism
This is not really traditional dance, it’s just a mixture of some new age music with some folks themes. You should check out “múa vũ phiến” or court fan dance because it’s a real one.

Lol this is the traditional nón quai thao, a type of hat used by northern Vietnamese women along the common conical hats. Or maybe Lady Gaga drew inspiration from our culture xD
The dancers are so fluid and most alluring. Thank you for sharing this beautiful performance with us!

I think it's a very good mix, and it's always nice to see artists experimenting : ).

ommmmg this is so crazy cool
The music had a saxaphone or something similar and used 12 tone music, so that kind of killed it as far as being "traditional".
