Oooh, a SOLE SLIP on a narrow gauge loco. Nice, I hope we see more narrow gauge SLIP's like this in the future.
Welsh Narrow Gauge stuff is what really has me interested in British steam. I hope that when I make my first trip from here in the US to Britain someday, that I can spend a good chunk of that trip just in Wales at every single heritage railway I can get to. Talyllyn and the Ffestiniog/Welsh Highland sit on the top of that list of railways I would love to see someday!
Jacob Lyman mate as and when you do I’d strongly recommend the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway too! That’s a personal fav of mine 😊
There are so many heritage railroads in that area I keep feeling like I am forgetting than re-learning about each one every-time I try to research the subject. Its amazing to me that there is just that many all that close to each other. I'd honestly think if I were to do the trip I'd get an international driver's license, rent a car somewhere in England or southern Wales; then visit the Brecon Mountain (a Baldwin in Wales, I need to see that). Then I'd head north to just set up a 'base' in a place like Aberystwyth or Tywyn were I would be close to one of the famous railroads, then just spend a few days driving out to the outlying railroads in the area while staying in a hotel at the base. If the 5 pound driver's experience is still running out of Aberstwyth on the Vale, I'd definitely do that. Then I'd head up to spend a day or two in Porthmadog, making sure to end up on Snowdon Mountain somewhere along the way. Then I'd head out of Wales passing through Conwy to see the castle, then drop off the rental car somewhere so I could just get on a train back to London or something.
Now to actually be able to afford the trip!
As much as I enjoy standard gauge, narrow gauge is my real love, so great to see you dipping into it.
“History isn’t bunk, it’s constantly ongoing”. Words to live by. Thanks Chris for the great video. 👍😁
Such interesting Narrow Gauge Engine so magnificent there was a character based after him Fearless Freddie from Thomas & Friends
That shot of her in Aberglaslyn Pass is just beautiful.
Russell was an engine I wasn't expecting to be a sole slip but I'm so glad you did him because he's my favourite narrow gauge engine and I even got a cab ride in him and my grandad built a 71/4 gauge Russell
I am so glad it is back where it should be now.
more narrow gauge please!
I have had the privilege of firing and even a short stint, driving this loco. Nice film and much appreciated. Regards from Germany!
Great to see narrow gauge being part of slips.
Would be great to see more.
nice one mate, one of my favourite locos 👍
A very nice looking 2-6-2t, I unfortunately didn't get to see 'Russell' at Ffestiniog/WHHR on my visit last month, as I think they had the engine out on the WHR doing something else.
I'm loving these sole SLIPS, do you think you'd ever consider doing more Welsh narrow gauge locomotives? The two Fletcher Jennings locomotives at Tywin might be a good subject.
Narrow gauge? Brilliant idea!
Its nice to see a narrow gauge loco. Hopefully there will be more in the future, but it still would be nice to see standard gauge sole slips aswell.
Nice one Chris! Brilliant Sole Slip.
I'm so glad John Alcock has a locomotive named after him... even if it is a diesel.
“Fearless Freddie is back!” Puffed Freddie.
I think Narrow Gauge locos are more interesting than Standard Gauge ones IMO.
Hear Hear, Would an Slips on Narrow Gauage Loco Would entering.
Very nice indeed Chris, I've liked this loco for a long time
Well done Chris! :D
Excellent Sole Slip review of a fantastic narrow gauge locomotive Chris 👍😉
I like the line side shots of Russell during the gala that the railway put on and seeing the locomotive free to run the whole F&WHR metals.
Nice to see a SLIP on a narrow-gauge engine. Incidentally, Russell has visited the Ffestiniog twice in preservation. First in 1988, then again in 1990. On both visits she ran between Porthmadog and Rhiw Goch, as there's no tunnels on that section of line, so there's no problem with loading gauge. That visit to the FR/WHR must have something special to see. I believe when she was purchased for the ironstone line, they had a choice between Russell and the Baldwin. Safe to say, they made the right choice! Any chances of a SLIP on the Romney Hythe & Dymchurch locos?
nice
Fearless freddie may not be in blue mountain mystery but he is in the talyllyn railway
Heard some of the WHHR crew saying that (at present) it takes half an hour to switch between WHHR and WHR, and will cost a fortune to fix now. It was a very good event, though I didn't know Russell had done solo runs until after the event finished!
It's to do with the ground frame at Pen Y Mount Junction. I'm told that at present, it can't be unlocked without keys from both railways. Hence it took longer than the allocated 10min slot during that gala to allow Russell onto the train she top and tailed with Prince.
I saw her doing the solo evening runs. But I'm unaware of her doing more after that weekend. I'm happy to be corrected on that front
I rode the WHR a couple of days after Russels historic run
I couldn't help but laugh when you referred to the engine as female but with a masculine name. Kind of like the Big Boy here in the states. Good SOLE as always!
Nice video Chris. Do you think you can do Taff Vale Railway O1 No.28? I'd really like to see that...
Could you do a steam locos in profile on the penrhyn main line class, there's only three around but you'll only have to go to ffestiniog/Welsh Highland railway and the Conwy castle museum.
Jesus, she's massive! No wonder the axle was damaged under all that weight!
Massive? MASSIVE? Boy the erie triplexes are massive.
When are you going to do the sole slip on tornado
Im going to the ffestiniog railway nest month
after everywhere it went and all it went through, It should have been renamed Odysseus, tbh
hay cris i want to buy a copy of slips one but these are out of stock. are there coming more dvd of part 1?
👌
2:20 😮a dirt tunnel
Year built:1906
When Ffestiniog gets Welsh Pony back into steam, will you do a SLIP on the George England locos? I’d love to see that.
Depends if the Ffestiniog are okay with it. They've pooh-poohed me in the past for reasons they wouldn't explain, even when I asked them nicely.
Chris Eden-Green, weird. Well I hope they change their minds. I love SLIPs and Welsh narrow gauge steam. Hope to see more in the future. Cheers!
Fearless Freddie
is this a sign of new things to come ? doing narrow gauge ?
Since you're interested, there have been narrow gauge SLIPs since 2014. On the DVDs
Wow! Is Russel the only one of their kind?
There is this loco in england resting on a flatbed in a museum that looks like russel so not really
Nicely done, have you gotten that hair cut yet?
Is that what you asked Brian May?
hey its fearless freddie
Awesome Chris! Russel also forms the character Fearless Freddie!
If you take requests, I'd really like to see you do Captain Baxter
You know, I don't understand why vehicles with male names are still referred to as she. Take Sir Nigel Gresley the namesake A4 for instance.
Tell me about it. I always call them him or her depending on the name.
@@rynodynomyte2755 Me too lol
@@rynodynomyte2755 same
Guess you can say hes *thicc*
Why are train wheels taller than my mom
Fearless freddy?
His name is spelt Fearless Freddie.
So it has a Male Name but is still seen as Female 🤔
Always weird referring to a vehicle with an obviously masculine name as "she". I know it's the proper thing to do but it's still odd.
Russell is a boy name
