Ditto on keyless - just another useless gimmick doomed to fail. On an adventure bike, this sort of crap isn't what you'd want to have quitting miles away on the middle of South America or Australia. I'd rather they gave me something else that was useful in the price rather than this idea...perhaps a bit of chain or a hinge on the fuel-filler cap....

Nah keyless is another stupid gimmick! like what they did on the new Honda Cubs, for me they just ruined them. Good all fashioned key is all we need. if the key is hard to reach a good old lanyard can do the trick.

    Interesting video.
    1. I used to have a GPS in the same position as your phone. Never again, as you have to contort to insert the ignition key. Handy bar to mount phone near windshield (better line of sight too).
    2. ABS switch, not a big concern. With this style of bike, I don't see the need to switch off ABS.
    3. Quite easy to swap out the fork oil for a thicker viscosity. I'd get the shop to do it at the first (1000km) checkover. BTW I'm light (Japanese) weight and not fussy about suspension.
    4. OEM tyres wear out soon enough, and it's a acquaintance/running in phase where I don't push the bike anyway. We all have our fave hoops, mine are Metzeler Tourance.
    5. Rear Hugger? Hadn't thought of that, and a damn fine idea. Hang the expense, I'll be putting a quality aftermarket one on (when they finally sell red CB5X in AU, only matt black currently).

Just watched this, totally agree on what you said about the dislikes. One other thing i thought would be spoked wheels. Like you, I wanna take this bike off road whenever i feel like it. I could probably disagree about the tyres, because so many people have a different preference to tyres, but at least have the wheels for better off road use, doesn't matter too much about the wheels if you just ridevl the bike on the road. Because it is a mini Africa or adventure bike spoked wheels would support that more, in my opinion. Great review thanks

Valid points altogether. Unrelated note: You might want to consider riding on the middle and or right side of your lane to best avoid a head on collision. On the first section of the video it also seems the middle lane is the only dry part of the road LOL

Whenever I see those 5 things i hate titles, i always cringe. But I really liked this. I agree the ABS switch is minor and I imagine they will do it.
I think the suspension is a compromise, as are the tires. Most people who know the difference can always easily make those changes. I bought new tires in the first three months. I have the Pirelli Scorpion Trail II, but I really love how they handle in the rain and in the city streets.
The hugger would be nice but I really wish there was a larger storage under the seat.
They have made lots of improvements over the years with no real cost increase. So maybe the switch and hugger are coming.

Alright guy's here's my $5 USD fix.Set your screen on max height.Loosen all windscreen screws.Cut the round rubber grommet from a rubber bungee cord ie the piece that is 15mm thick & has the eyelet of the hook passing thru it.
Remove the existing top windscreen bolts.Pack the top screws behind the screen with the new "packers"& rescrew the top bolts with new stainless m5 X 25mm bolts, tighten existing bottom screws.
Effectively you've changed the forward cant of the screen.
I'm 190 cm tall & problem is"that" solved that my HJC RPHA 70 helmet visor now stays open at 110 kmh, noise reduction etc etc.
Don't whinge about my ride, just make it better.Don't talk to me about my new EVO 1 clutch & brake levers, just lost the trainer wheels.😝
My new rear tyre, Pirelli GT Angel 2 feels like Velcro on the road.Waiting till I retire to the bush to awaken it's off road capabilities with 50/50 rubber blades. That's a new adventure.
Seriously this bike " is what it is" & it's fricken dope.Stay safe & enjoy the adventure.
      p.s. my 2019 cb500x is black & it's a chick magnet.😜.Agree about the 650 tho.

Ay great video! I was curious if you've had passengers? And if you'd be open to doing a video on riding with one? Hoping to make a trip to Cali in April or May and will be having my first passenger once I get down to LA. Would be great to see some do's and don'ts with having one, and things I might be able to advise them of, and stuff I should remember. I'm still pretty new to everything, and the bike I ended up settling on (a V-Strom) is a tiny bit tall for me (tippy toes tall) so add a passenger into the mix and.. well.. It's a bit intimidating. Haha. Stay safe!

Good points i have the same bike and ride it every day in all weathers. I agree about the key its a pain in the dark! The front forks do adjust dunno if you have had a play with them? Plus the rear shock adjusts also so there is room to get it how you want it to a point plus as you say you could change the oil in the forks also. For road use i find it ok and handles well. The dunlops tyres here in the UK are fine even in the wet or icy roads and will get you down a track with care its not easy to get dual purpose that actually work but these come close. The abs is not an issue for my riding but i get what your saying. I agree the rear does spray all the shit into the bike some kind of fender or guard would be practical. I had a Suzuki v strom before and that was even worse! Overall like yourself i love the bike and its looks.
I am 5/10 in height and found the screen too low, so i changed it in days for a Puig taller screen. I feel they should have added an engine guard to protect the oil filter and sump this was standard on the vstrom.
