Hanzel Cisneros This new version of the CB500X really is a well performing machine! Up next - a side by side comparison of the Africa Twin & the CB500X on the SAME trail / hill climbs / descents. Stay tuned!
WHAT THE HELL!! I have only done the hard ways on my Beta 520 or KTM300!! At least I know you are breathing hard and it's not easy on that bike. Man those tires are getting amazing traction on that beast. And the morning ride with sun blazing into the eyes sure does create a challenge as well. I also can't believe how well the trail has recovered since the fires a few years back. And your comment that it's so light is funny since you are pointed uphill. Of course you are a very strong dude so a free pass is in order!! I am very well acquainted with some of those sections you were riding through. I'm amazed how well that bike could just tractor through!! Good job my man!!
Awesome Christopher... love your comment. Thus far I have done the hard ways on this CB500X, an Africa Twin and my KTM 1190 Adv R. The 500X was WAY easier than the other bikes... but much slower too. The big bikes rail through and only have issues if they stop the forward momentum. Then... its back to the bottom for another run. I was blown away that I was able to stop the 500 half way up... take photos and then tractor the rest of the way to the top. In 2nd gear none the less! The AX41 tires are really helpful too... they work really well in that terrain. Thanks for watching! Come out to the Hanger 24 ride with us next Wednesday.
Ha! Ha! Ha! That bike is so much fun! I really want to put this motor into a CRF250 Rally frame! That would be amazing... Let's ride again soon. - Kyle
Hands down best trail ride video on UA-cam. I felt like I was on the bike riding it. That bike is 1/3 the price of the new Africa Twin Adventure Sport ES. I hope the 2021 Africa Twin 850 is similarly simple. Add a center stand, bullet proof skip plate and some high spec inverted forks and a stout rear shock. Add tubeless tires and I'd buy one...if I wasn't handicapped 😢
Scenic Idaho Daily Time Lapse AMEN!!! What you describe is what the “Real ADV” guy has been after for SO LONG! No MFG has yet “hit the mark” ... I sure hope the 850 AT does... but am skeptical. KTM made an amazing bike with the 790... BUT it weighs the same & has LESS travel than my 950 Super Enduro. Let’s go Honda!
Thanks for your review. I recently purchased a 2020 CB500X. I've owned several motorcycles throughout several years. This bike is underrated for it's capabilities at this price. I mainly stick to the fire roads of New Mexico. They are nowhere near as gnarly as this. I'm very impressed! T-Rex Racing makes an overly built skid plate for this bike. USA made too. @@manybikes Hey has anyone considered making a low profile oil pan? That and a careless exhaust could not you what looks like an easy 2" of ground clearance! Maybe a batwing style pan?
Funny you say that... On my this first off road ride... I get to the top of the mountains and I jump off the CB and recorded a "SALE Announcement" for my KTM 390 Duke as I NEED one of these CB500X motorcycles. SO much fun!
Very impressive! Either that bike is a lot better than it looks or you are very fit. Maybe a bit of both 😊 I am riding a CRF 250 rally with hyperpro suspension and Anakee Wild tyres. Really enjoying it, but of course it lacks a bit of speed on the motorway. Be interested to see how your 500 works out with the mods you plan.
I am super impressed with this middleweight machine. It really needs stiffer suspension for off-road. But... a skid plate, suspension and bark busters... this little gem would be nearly unstoppable. Way tooo many bottom outs on this ride! I wanted a CRF 250 Rally soooooooo bad and then I rode it... and could not keep up on So Cal freeways. I really want to get 250 Rally with a blown motor... so I can swap in a 450 ;) That would be an EPIC bike! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
Nice vid! Looks more like a giant rut than a trail =D Why Honda hasnt developed a dual-sport ADV out of this bike is beyond me. Taller/better suspension, 23" front wheel, re-route pipe with bash guard. Call it a CB500XRL or Halfrica-Twin! A factory RallyRaid option.
orangelion03 it’s totally a Halfrica-Twin! Spot on... it is such a fun little machine. Totally non- intimidating and it goes anywhere the big bikes go - easier. Maybe not as quickly, but it gets there.
orangelion03 just like the crf250 Rally... awesome package but too slow for real world use. Where is the 450 version? Or that package with this 500 motor would be awesome too...
I heard somewhere that they are going to update the africa twin to a 1200 to make room for a 700-800 cc version to compete with the 700 tenere. I think it would be better to make it based on a stroked version of the cb500 (471cc) engine...say a 550cc for more torque & keep it real light.
Use first gear engine breaking a lot in the steep slopes in the Ozark mountain trails we play on. I have one of these CB500x at a local shop all dressed up with crash bars and engine guard etc. With a more aggressive set of off road tires. Thanks for your thoughts and experience on this bike.

It’s about the smallest bike I’d consider; here in the US West you simply have to be able to cruise at 75. And this vid also shows the value of torque which is why a 300 Versys is just too small and high strung.

Well, my model did not have ABS so it wasn't ;) but ... if it did have ABS (as my 390 Duke does) I would imagine it is a pain in the Ass.... I remove the ABS fuse when I ride off-road on the Duke. Quick and FREE fix. As for the wheels... my Duke has cast wheels similar to this CB500X and I have not broken or bent one yet... but if you want to ride "rough trails" it is highly recommenced that you do the spoke wheel upgrade! I am interested with the way you hold the thortle and your mid finger on the brake. I am still learning this technique but i cant find video about this in youtube. Maybe you can make one. Thank you.
What tyres are you using? Not stock I assume? I think I caught Bridgestone Battlax? You actually say what is used at the end, AX40s (guess I should learn some patience before posting!)
Hi Kyle, can you tell me where to buy aftermarket parts ( front and rear suspension), skid plates, soft side bag mounting frames etc. I am getting a 2021 and will need to add parts to the bike. This is such a popular motorcycle I would assume there is a place other than the RR place in England that specializes in CB 500 X's. thanks
Rally Raid does a great job, that is for sure. Any of the OEM Honda accessories I'd suggest AZMotoCity and the aftermarket stuff seems to be pretty Mom & Pops oriented.
@@manybikes I'm due to change my bike next year (currently CB100R Neo Sport) and fancy something along the lines of the R120 GS I used to own but found too big - kept dropping the damned thing! Such a neat machine. After spending nearly 6 months with it... and putting about 5k miles on it I do think it is a SOLID Machine. Smooth. Reliable. Will Go Anywhere. I rode a 2014 Rally Raid here a little while back when I was trying to sell it for a friend. Just as impressed... ua-cam.com/video/RxYzX6XF9U4/v-deo.html Find a Used One in good condition and pay $2k less than retail and HAVE FUN on it! That is my take.
@@manybikes thanks Kyle seems to fit exactly what Im looking for had a 1200gsa te in the past an although it was great on the highway spent months at bmw being fixed an was a paint off road.
Its the Bridgestone BATTLAX ADVENTURECROSS AX41 in tire size 170/60B17 BUT... next time I will go with the 150/70B17 as it is lighter and fits the rim better.

Travel safe my friend and don’t let that monkey power get away from you.
Sorry to fire up an old thread but this video may have tipped me into retiring the K1200LT and getting into this model and trying to get a few more years of more off-pavement riding :). My wingman has never done off-road so not sure if we will ever do a trail like that but there is always hope! Question about the slipper clutch...i know it reduces stress for gearing down and such but does it also reduce the potential to burn up the clutch when you are trying to launch uphill/ I expected to see smoke any minute and degradation of the clutch but it appeared to lock up great, I was stunned. I have seen guys who have unfortunately horked up their Himalayan clutches trying to make half the horsepower do twice the work, that seemed like an acid test for the clutch, though, wow. Thumbs up!
Not an old thread at all... This video is in my top 5 videos every month and the comments come in weekly. This bike is built really well and I could not imagine smoking a clutch! I have a buddy who has almost 40k on his and he is on his original clutch. Honda quality all day long!
The CB500X is far better off-road than my 390 Duke. Check out this video: ua-cam.com/video/DyUQlBPJNZQ/v-deo.html Now to answer your question... I DO NOT LIKE the 390 Adventure motor slip / traction control. Even with hit turned all the way OFF it still was sluggish to "get on the gas" and in extreme up hill climbs the restriction was felt. As compared to my old school 2016 Duke (same motor with ZERO aids) the pick-up was immediate and the climbs were hard hitting. I would not buy a 390 Adventure due to the electronic intervention. Now... The 390 Duke is more fun on the street / road / highway than the CB500X. Different machines for sure. Same exact price and If I were in my same place in life today... I would pick the CB500X over the KTM.
@@manybikes Wow I have not heard anyone talk about or notice the 390 ADV lag issue. I don't really have any interest in the Duke, but have been looking at the CB500x and 390ADV for a long distance multi state/BDR/camp around option. I'm only 5'8''/160 and the bigger bike+gear are just so HEAVY I would likely be over matched so I was trying to find something on the smaller side. I know they would not do as well on freeway but there is give and take no mater what way you go. Thanks for the reply
@@johnscott9829 You wouldn’t notice it if you didn’t feel the stark back to back difference between the two! Now a 390 Adv with 2016 technology - that’d be Rad!
Hi Kyle! First of all, thanks for all the thourough and detailed videos of the CB500X you've uploaded so far. I also have a youtube channel (on other account) and I'm planning to make a video about the CB500X capabilities on the dirt with proper tires. Can I use footage from this video and credit you and your channel? Thanks and keep these awesome videos comming!
For sure! This was a loaner bike and I was not supposed to add things to this one... But Personally I would add #1 Skid Plate, #2 Suspension, #3 Engine Guards, #4 Handguards. Good to Go! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
I have offroad tires, skid plate and crashbars on this bike. It's stil winter up here in Canada so I havent been able to ride this new-to-me bike yet. I'm an experienced dirt bike/dualsport rider. You think I;'d be able to bomb this trail? I ABSOLUTELY would on my dr 650.
Yes, this was the 170/60B-17 but next time I would go with the 150/70B-17 as it is a few pounds lighter in weight and not too much narrower than the OEM 160. The 170 worked fine but the bike is more sluggish than with the OEM size tire. -- Kyle
I really like the CB500X! It was a blast to ride and nearly effortless as compared to my Africa Twin and KTM 1190 Adv R. I've got three more videos on this bike... coming here in a bit. Thanks for watching!
Good afternoon. I’m subscribed to your channel, and I’ve seen this video where you walk on sections off road. Very good! Could you give me tips on the accessories you installed, to make the 500X more appropriate? I live in Brazil, and I used Google translator. I'm sorry for a possible flaw in the text. Obs. The new model (with 19 rim wheels in the front), has just been launched here. I'm going to buy my bike next week. Thank you, Fernando Brandt.
This bike is so much fun. Suspension is way to light... but it still does a great job! I am running the Bridgestone AX41 AdventureCross tires on the CB500X. Thanks for watching. -- Kyle
Quinn VanCanneyt Yes, it’s a bit more tricky! Here are the same trails in AT motorcycles! Hard Splits on Honda Africa Twin CRF1000L Motorcycles - POV Front and Rear GoPro ua-cam.com/video/kUukDnaeizc/v-deo.html
This video prove’s how honda neglect this bike so hard, you don’t need an over the top expensive africa twin to go into trails like these with a 1000cc engine. 47hp is way good enough and the lighter the better. If they made it with spoked wheels and metal sump guard and a more decent suspension it will do absolutely great for most of the average joe’s out there. Why adventure riding have to be so expensive!?
Totally true. If Charley and Ewen were on a little 500 or a 650 when they did their Long Way movies the Adventure Scene would look "REALLY Different!" I strongly believe that. There are way better and more practical ADV machines than the big 950 / 990 / 1090 / 1190 / 1290 / 1200GS / 1250gs bikes... They just need to WORK, like this one does! Thanks for watching. - Kyle
Unbelievable! Do you buy pants one size larger to accommodate the size of your...attachments? That's a 430 pound bike. I passed on those sections riding a 260 pound dual-sport! Of course I'm OLD and couldn't take a chance of dropping it which was easy to do with a 37" seat height. It was all I could do to pick it up.
Ha! Ha! Ha! It's my beer belly that makes me have to buy a size larger pants these days... BUT not all days go this easy either. Here is a "really rough day" on those same trails on my 950 Super Enduro with a 4" seat height that weighs 450 lbs. No bueno! But it was FUN!!! ua-cam.com/video/v4dAg_lZE6U/v-deo.html
@@manybikes I meant what you did with the Honda in that rough terrain is CALLED ADVENTURE. You showed a set of amazing skills with a motorcycle not specifically design to cope with such a hard off road difficulties. Not even a fall...well at least we havent seen one in your upload. Well done mate! Greetings from Argentina! BTW a question for u: between the indian Ktm 390 adv and the Thai Honda cb500x (2022) which one would u recommend for off/on road as well city use? Where I live the Honda is priced 1500 usd more expensive than the KTM. I wish the KTM will have a double cylinder.
@@bullsharkdb So... The KTM 390 Adv is better suited for ADV riding but the CB500X motor is smoother and makes better "off road power." I prefer the 390 motor on the street as it is more fun than the Honda motor... but it likes to perform at higher revs as compared to the low reving Honda motor. Yes, the AX41 tires from Bridgestone. The work REALLY well for about 2k miles ;)
Excellent video, just goes to show what the bike can do. Many would say it’s not supposed to do what you did!
For sure! Not meant to.... but it works so well and is so easy to ride!
@@manybikes I'm due to change my bike next year (currently CB100R Neo Sport) and fancy something along the lines of the R120 GS I used to own but found too big - kept dropping the damned thing! Will be 62 next year and I think the CB500X would do just nicely... your review has just given me confidence in it's potential, many thanks for that :) ^,
You will love the CB500X! Check out this one I shot yesterday: ua-cam.com/video/b01t5nClLiA/v-deo.html
So did you ever get a CB500X and if so do you still have it today? Love to know how you feel about the bike now that the honeymoon is long over. Thx
Goes to show how capable it is :) Been looking at one of these compared to a 1150gsa an Himalayan for a trip to iceland.
It really is a well rounded mid-size bike. Super capable!
@@manybikes thanks Kyle seems to fit exactly what Im looking for had a 1200gsa te in the past an although it was great on the highway spent months at bmw being fixed an was a paint off road.
What make & size is the rear tyre ? Looks nice.
Its the Bridgestone BATTLAX ADVENTURECROSS AX41 in tire size 170/60B17 BUT... next time I will go with the 150/70B17 as it is lighter and fits the rim better.
Thanks for your vidéo ! Have you change the rear tyre by a 150 now ? Because i really esitate between 170 and 150 for AX41...
Yes, I really like the 150!
Thank you for your experience return !
YOU RIDE GOOD!
Thanks for watching!
Hey Kyle.. crazy ride for the pint size baby AT lol... don’t worry about the exhaust pipe it will buff out !!!! Hahahahahahahaha miss seeing the big AT .. but I still did enjoy your video as always.. omg did I just say that.. I want more big AT .. hey I need 2 ask you do you know when your next shipment of Motoz Rally will be in need a set for my Big AT ... lol.. thanks again buddy ..do appreciate all the work you put into your videos..travel safe my friend.. ps.. band of brothers.. More please..
Ha! Ha! Ha! Well I am glad you liked it even if it was on a Halfrica Twin ;) A container of RallZ shipped to Chaparral today and they should be in-stock early next week. Oh... I've got another twist for you. The Band of Brothers all also own Honda GROM motorcycles. Thursday I turn in the CB for a Monkey. We are planning a video where I "Monkey around with the GROM's" That should be fun and we can get them into some pretty crazy places. Stay tuned!!!
Kyle Bradshaw thanks for the info on the tires buddy..will place my order awesome news..So the band of brothers on groms I think you guys like messing with me..I kinda want to see that video..but don’t tell anyone lol.. and here is the biggest kicker man.. I would not mind a monkey in my garage reminds me of bikes when I was a kid..if you leak this classified information we are so not friends anymore.. hahahahahahaha.. hey again thank you for the info and all your work on the videos your a solid guy !
The motorcycle I want on the trails I want to ride. Thanks for the video boss👌👌.
Any time! You will love it once you get it! It's a super fun bike!
How does the cb500x compare to the KTM390 ADV, and which one would you pick given those two options?
@@manybikes Just readin between the lines and it does sound like your as pumped about the CB500 either.
The CB500X is amazing for what it is. Suspension, Skid Plate and Handguards... and spoke wheels will make it a go ANYWHERE machine, that is for sure.
Lamonier Yes, for sure!
Invest on hand guards, engine guards, skid plate, centre stand and use side panniers
For sure! This was a loaner bike and I was not supposed to add things to this one... But Personally I would add #1 Skid Plate, #2 Suspension, #3 Engine Guards, #4 Handguards. Good to Go! Thanks for watching! - Kyle
I am looking for my AT 50/50 nobbis so thank u for describing ax41 ! 73
Happy to help! I really do LOVE the AX 41 tires!
You'd slay it!
Great vid. Can't wait to go off road on mine
Sweet! Congrats! Super fun bike!
Is your rear tire 170/60-17? Thank you.
Yes, this was the 170/60B-17 but next time I would go with the 150/70B-17 as it is a few pounds lighter in weight and not too much narrower than the OEM 160. The 170 worked fine but the bike is more sluggish than with the OEM size tire. -- Kyle
@@manybikes Thanks for the tip. Please keep on posting videos.
1:31-1:32 now thats a wallpaper
Neu 0zzy I can send you the HiRes image if you’d like ;) Thanks for watching!
Kyle Bradshaw cool thru email, I bet Honda IG has to like ur images..
Neu 0zzy Yes, a little ;) Manybikes@gmail shoot me a message & I’ll reply with pics.
I heard you said that your 2019 Honda CB500X is not equipped with ABS?
amdomag That’s correct. No aids on this one.
@@manybikes Did you intentionally turn the ABS off? ABS is a standard feature of CB500X 2019, right?
amdomag nope. They were made ABS & Non-ABS about a $500’difference in price.
Definitely pushing this bike far beyond it’s intended purpose. Sure makes for a good watch though!
It really is a super fun little bike!
I really like the CB500X! It was a blast to ride and nearly effortless as compared to my Africa Twin and KTM 1190 Adv R. I've got three more videos on this bike... coming here in a bit. Thanks for watching!
This is what the bike is for. Thanks for getting this great footage!
Andrew Peak I’ve got an even better video on the way!!! Thanks for watching!
I would be terrified to do that with a skid plate.
Ha! Ha! Ha! It was a great ride!
Thank you for watching Fernando. Tires were the only modification to this otherwise stock 2019 CB500X. - Kyle
Good to see someone actually use this bike properly.lolol. what tyres are you useing if you dont mind me asking?
This bike is so much fun. Suspension is way to light... but it still does a great job! I am running the Bridgestone AX41 AdventureCross tires on the CB500X. Thanks for watching. -- Kyle
Now this is just a guess but after looking I'm going with "Bridgestone AX41 AdventureCross" :)
I have been in areas like this with my AT. Though I'll admit, not nearly as gracefully as you pulled it off.
@@manybikes hey thanks buddy :)
Is the front tire the same size as the stock tire?
The from is a 120 and the rear is a 170. Both are 10cm wider than stock sizes. - Kyle
Kyle- I have alot of questions regarding how to outfit my new 2021 Honda cb 500 X. How do I get in touch with you-is the only way thru utube?
My email is in the description.
Impressive!
Dude... SO FUN!
- Kyle
are those tires the stock tires ?
No, they are the Bridgstone AX41 AdventureCross tires.
No, they are Bridgestone AX41 tires.
👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks for watching!
Very good i like that
Thank you very much!

Do you have the 2 inch rally raly lift kit?
*raid
No, other than tires... this 2019 CB500X is completely STOCK!
Hi all! Sorry i'm not english, but what's the dimensions of tyres? Thank a lot
The bike is running a 120-19 in the front and a 160-17 in the rear. I am unsure off hand what the aspect ratios were.... sorry!
@@manybikes Thanks you very much Kyle, but in France there are 150/70 or 170/60 for the back
The rear tire was up one size over stock. It handled great. Thanks for watching!
Blame it on the skid plate. lol.
Ha! Ha! Ha! Yup... And then the tires ;)
👏👏👏🌹👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
salim a thanks for watching!
🇬🇧 Nice tyres, what's the brand and model of your tyres ? 🇬🇧
Pedro Santos Bridgestone AX41 AdventureCross tires!
Das Enyone nows Wats the hight of the Seat is. Im a smaller Guy. Bud i like the bike very mutch.
Seat Height. 32.8 inches on the 2019 to 2021 models.
thats called adventure, the new all 2022 will be more capable than the 2019/20/21
Heck Yeah! I really liked this bike. The MOST Under-rated bike in the Adv space.
Check this out: ua-cam.com/video/EkLQHhl_UmQ/v-deo.html
, mammmaaammmiiiiiiiiiaaa!
Ha! Ha! Ha! Like a little honeybadger bike :)
No skit plate?!
Nope... but i needed on BADLY!
IT absolutely DOES have ABS
This unit did not. They are sold as two different models. One with ... and one without.
Whoow thats what i want. Dutch gay speaking. You Made me by this bike. Good footich. Thanks
So Much Fun! You'd love it.
Aber warum?
Because it is super fun!
You're a mountain king.
This bike is not made to do that.
Ha! Ha! Just a motorcycle rider... that’s all.
Get a skid plate fool!
Needed one... that is for sure.
@@manybikes nice which one? My SW Motech is crap and I fear it will crush my exhaust headers with the smallest bash. Back arm on skid plate snapped off as well.
