Actually the name of this BL manhwa is Trapped in the Dark. The title "The Abyss" is a direct translation of the Korean title. It was named that by the fan-translators before it was licensed for an English translation.

This gives me flashbacks of finding the anime Okane Ga Nai in the early 2010s as a 15 year old. The size difference 😭
Bruhhh😂
Omg same lmao
lol sameee :V i found okane ga nai when i was 17y.o
Bro as an artist myself i don't judge anyone's art but when i read this comic the artstyle caught me off guard and imma be honest i couldn't stop myself from just staring at it thats how weird it looked to me then after a few chapters it was getting kinda creepy to read lol i don't know much abt the story if its good or bad cuz i dropped it 💀💀💀(no hate to the artist tho i really like the colouring style of the artist imo they should focus on proportions and anatomy other than that i like the artstyle)
I also liked the coloring. It really helped set the tone of the story
nah cz i bet bro's neck could break a brick(the big one)
@$titch bruh this caught me off guard and made me laugh so hard I feel bad but humored at the same time 😭😂😂😂
@@Lullibai ohh lol😭
The artist is a bad person tho
Honestly, you are completely right
The way people confuse constructive criticism for just blatant bullying or hating, isn't cool
This is what I actually have been saying about constructive criticism and plain mockery towards the author. I'm pretty sure majority of these people cannot even actually draw or are artists, because real ones don't just laugh at how someone do their art. And yes, it's not even rare for artists to improve through their stories, and also one of the example is the author of The Unquenchable Mr. Kim, where one can literally see the difference of the first and last chapter. Also for the Silent Lover imo. Overall, whether or not the author improves their art or that's just how they like to draw their characters, people should mind their own if they don't have something nice to talk about it or actually help. It's very easy to just scroll past a story/manhua/manhwa/manga that is not to your taste. Anw, this also actually reminds me of Okane ga Nai.
Yeah ikr the artstyle of unquenchable mr kim was so weird at first (the characters looked like frogs 💀) but i still gave it a shot cuz i found the story interesting and then BOOM after a couple of chapters Morak improved sooo much like even i'm envious of her improvement
Cherry Blossom After Winter's art style had also made a change from first to the final season, in season 1 the art style was amazing, after that season the art style changed, it became more prettier actually , I love both art style but the recent art style is overall my favorite
I think I heard that the artist and author don't get along, so this is what the artist did lol
@@rabbit5108 the artist and author r the same person
ooh, if U hadn't seen it yet, Noblesse oblige in Webtoon made a lot of progress in their art style
Everyone talking about the artstyle
Meanwhile me: " the colour palette looks good"
As an avid yaoi/BL reader for over 20 years, I've seen...things hahaha 😅. I've been concerned of the well being of many uke's 🍑 due to every seme being veeeeery well endowed. I do not miss yaoi hands, omg, I do not miss those 😂. Honestly a lot does come down to art style and developing it; human body anatomy and proportions are hard and take time to master. So much time goes into every work whether its good or bad plus these people have deadlines. It's easy enough to pass on something that isn't my taste but honestly, usually that has more to do with the story being super boring/pacing than art. Plus it is possible to give constructive criticism without being harsh and mean. Be kind ❤
I guess I had read this and it wasn't even on my radar for being bad 😅 (yikes on size though haha). I hope Numu isn't discouraged from finishing it.
The artist is a bad person tho so idgaf
@@holupmoment5289what did they do??
I don’t mind the art style. It does take a little getting use to, but there are definitely more strange art styles and proportions out there. Totally feel you on pearl boy.
I'm subscribing to you cuz OH MY GOD. Finally someone who explained the whole shebangs about this manwha and why people are criticizing it so much. Like I'm so used to each yaoi art style looking downright alien, that it doesn't even bother me anymore. Cuz I've come to embrace different art style. And people are hating on this manwha WAY too much, considering the art style, which isn't even so bad. I bet half the people who're hating on it, can't even draw a line properly.
I’m conflicted. On one hand, I feel like when you’re an artist and you publish your art and are aware your art is going to be viewed by thousands of people (if not more) you kind of have to go in knowing you’re going to get a lot of criticism, whether it is constructive or not. You have to have thick skin. On the other hand, I do think things got a bit out of hand with how savagely the artist was getting roasted.
Even outside of BL I've always like Yasuhiro Nightow's style (Trigun, Gungrave, Blood Blockade Battlefield) which also features very tall proportioned characters.
So they should cut this BL artist some slack!
As a man who's seen older Yaoi with the body proportions being vastly different between the seme and uke. I'm not terribly disturbed by Numu's art, however, after being used to seeing recent yaoi manga/anime with realistic proportions there was an initial feeling of déjà vu that flitted through my mind like an aggressive sparrow. It brought me back to the classics that I read.
Same 😂😅
As someone who draws an awful lot, whenever I read some manhwa, I can't help but see what is wrong with the proportions or the way that it is drawn. I don't think that I mind the art style because I've read a lot of manhwas with completely different art styles which didn't bother me. It's just that I can't unsee what is wrong with the proportions and that makes it quite unbearable to read sometimes. Like, the only thing I will focus on is the way the hair doesn't make sense, or the hands are too big or whatever.. So I can understand why someone would drop this manhwa because of the art style. However, I would never agree with the unnecessary hate sent to the artist. They can draw the way they want to draw, and if it bothers me I can just move on, just like everyone should do instead of hating on the artist for drawing the way they want to :))
It's just.. that Ukes have a history of being too small. That Uke would die😅. I do not mind the giant seme. Just his giant Shillong omg 😢 with this extremely small Uke. A walk on water was amazing in dong proportions😅.
3:24 a single tear left my eyes😢
Besides the proportions I think this style is beautiful. I personally struggle with anatomy and cannot shun someone for their anatomy. And like you said I remember seeing the older art style for most yaoi. I am very picky about art style in my media consumption, but I would never criticize someone for their style.
I started reading it some time ago and the artstyle didnt meet my standards, i read manga that make me aesteticaly satisfacted so i just dropped it. Now that i see the hate it is getting makes me feel sad, because i am an artist too. I would like people to just ignore what they dont like and pay attention to the things they like instead of hating😢
When i first saw the ml... I thought it's He Tian
And Frog hands in yaoi is common and the art is gorgeous in that manwa
Idk if you saw the numu and their fans sending death threats to the person with the shoe tweet and what makes it worse is that numu was encouraging it by saying it was karma
You brought up Mingwa & i talked to myself about how much they improved & how i love the art style.. for half an hour
BUT THE IMPROVEMENTS ARE JUST AGAGHSGSHDJWHDF
Tbh the silly proportions you mention as being the norm years ago is one of the reasons that deterred me from BL in the first place - this is no different. When I first started to read BL I was introduced to manhwa (I was intruiged when I saw Blood Bank screenshots on Insta back in 2016 and I checked it out XD the art and story are SO GOOD if you never heard of it, 100% recommended). I still have a general preference towards manhwa rather than Japanese BL (again this is a matter of taste).
But I'm like this generally where if I don't like the art (if it bothers me enough not just a simple dislike) for any kind of series I will be repelled from checking it out. And while I don't condone the fixing others art attitude and mockery (imo... fixing others art like that SUCKS because it puts people down so much and there's an annoying air of superiority from the person "fixing" the art, unless if the person asks for it this behaviour is slimy) imo the tiktoker versions are better proportionally I have to admit, not just stylistically.

3:28 HIS HANDS IM ROLLING STOP WHAT IS THAT ☠️☠️☠️
Objectively, this artstyle is funny looking. The proportions are overly overly exaggerated, so personally I don't like it. As long as people aren't directly harassing the artist, I still think it's okay to say how you feel even if it's mean
I wasn't even aware that the art style was an issue to readers.
Please take into account everything that they have to draw in order to create the manhwa:
- basic and/or complex architechture
- foreshortening and perspective
- anatomical knowledge to properly practice foreshortening
The artist is able to draw zoom ins of different body parts and color each panel to fit the mood of the current scene.
I see nothing wrong with the anatomy of the characters, their heads are still on their shoulders, and each muscle is consistent in placement and proportion every time the character is drawn. Though the proportions of the characters are exaggerated, they are still drawn consistently. This consistency requires much practice in order to master. Imagine having to draw the exact same character over and over, without varying their appearance whatsoever, barely any artistic liberty is allowed when creating a comic/manga/manhua/manhwa.
I am a person who strives to improve their art. Drawing is not a hobby for me, but like another school subject to learn: it's a drag. It's tough and really boring, but it's something that I used to enjoy. Now I just need to tough it out to become better. I have no problem with people becoming complacent with their art and creating what they like, but PLEASE DO NOT BRING DOWN OTHER ARTISTS, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY ARE CLEARLY VERY TALENTED.
I feel like it is unfair to the artist to get harassed for their art, and personally when I started reading Dangerous Convinience Store... I had to get used to the proportions but it's like that, it is I who gets used to the Artist's art and NOT THE ART that should change to be more of my liking. I simply think that if you don't feel something, just ignore it. Also I used to draw and had the dream of making my own manga/comic (don't know how mexican maga would be called) but because some people drawig better than me I put it on pause... now imagine if I would want to resume drawing if people on the internet will make me feel like I shouldn't make an effort at all.
I'm with you on liking art of various styles, and even coming to like art I initially wasn't fond of. And I don't think making fun of someone's art, especially when it's their livelihood, is welcome.
Ngl, the art of this one is 90% of the reason I dropped the series, but I'm not gonna blast the artist on social media. It's clear that the style was their intentional stylistic choice.
And hey, they're still much better than me!
“ I have never seen… *flashbacks of Titan’s Bride* ok no I have I have”
Oh and I love your humours and video, you are very good. And I still love Junjou Roman lol
I’ve seen the tik toks and thought it was fake. After watching the vid I do think the dogging of the artist’s is excessive, different styles are always wonderful to observe and I’m glad u brought that up! I think I was a bit to harsh looking at it but I don’t often comment on videos or voice my opinions anywhere. Either way, I don’t read the comic and so it isn’t exactly my place to criticize. I hope the artist is doing well
Just remember Yaoi Hand from early Yaoi manga 😂 they basically almost the same
For my part, I think the Body proportion differs in Body Sizes or Height.. if a Character is 7'4 or up, I think it's only natural that the body proportion is a little bit bigger.😳
I have an OC with 7'8 height. There's also one of my OC who's height is 8'11. Of course they're bigger...😅
That must be so sad for the artist me generally I don't mind blown out styles that some hate.
This one dId kind of court me off guard every now and then but overall I could enjoy it for what it was after a while.
I appreciate your reviews and the explanations you provide. Both deepen my enjoyment of everything I watch and read. Thanks.
"Can your resist that Goo goo eyes??"
IM DYING
Have you seen their actual artstyle, its so good oml😭
The artist is a bad person tho
@@holupmoment5289curious, did they do something?
I actually read this and i love their art style its true that i did thought that their body differences and how his giant banana thing got fit into his fragile body and their eyes differences were the fist thing to bug me but i continued reading it because i absolutely love red flags and also because i just accepted other people's art styles i mean even though i do draw i still can't find my own art style so i think the artist is lucky and i just found your youtube video and new subscriber but i really like your videos💙
Great video. 😊. I too grew up with junjou romantica and similar works lol. I read them all: though some these days are too grapey. Lol. Ah I feel old. 😅. Just turned 26 this month. Hope you're all well.
Kindness costs nothing. We all have things we don't like. As it says "don't say, if you have nothing nice to say". Why who, I'm also a bystander so I generally try to stay out of conflicts.
P. S I'm still waiting for the episodes of Mignon to come out. Seen the PV but not the series. I'm in the UK so we always watch shows /films later than America or Asia.
Have a good week all 🙏. xx
Here's how I see it, art is subjective. If you don't like the art, then that's okay. But people making fun of the art style to the point the original artist has to comment about, that just hurts my heart.
I higly recommend you King's Maker...one of very few BL i love because I'm a Himejoshi at heart.
Ugh I love the mains the seme is such a green flag like dooshik from pearlboy
@@ACinemafanatic Wolfang or Rudolf?
I'm not calling myself artist even though sometimes i did drawing. But i think that's make this manhwa regonizeable and unique. Rather than making fun of it and judge it, i think we all should respect it cus dayum the art is so fk pretty af. So if anyone doesn't like it, shouldn't they leave it be and stop making fuss over it? Like, leave it alone. I'm glad u never bothered by the artstyle and i hate for ppl who making fun of that artstyle.
Ikr! The shoes comment caught me off guard cuz I’ve seen a irl Lamborghini in a manhwa once as well
I do agree with you! Every one and I mean EVERYONE has their own style and to make fun of it is messed up
Unrelated but the moment I saw the main character’s face I immediately thought of this emoji: 👁️👄👁️
I see no difference
same as you. I agree in what you say. I see that style as every other art style out there online right now.
I've been an avid yaoi reader since way back (lol) so the different art styles doesn't exactly bother me since i tend to read for either the story or the smut 🤷♀
heck I'd even drop a gorgeous looking manhwa or manga if the story is annoying or boring to me.
and it's true how the hate for that just got overboard due to tiktok and people just wanting to be in the trend and be viral 🙄
i feel like the people who commented about the shoes being 3d assets are the ones who complain that everything in a manhwa/manga should be hand drawn or something (i see you in comments sections you~ 🤨🔍
as an artist i now how hard it is to draw every single little thing so having assets that can be used on the go is nice because there are readers out there who also complain about wanting faster updates.... such a sad world an artist lives in cause you really can't please everyone.
just be kind guys and let it be. they'll grow more as an artist and you'll get used to their style
Sorry just have to say; The wallflower is incredible
I must be absolutely desensitized because this art looked pretty normal to me. Yes it’s unrealistic but this kind of content was never meant to depict realism 😂 Also, I absolutely love this video instant sub!
Admittedly I laughed at the art at first but this humbled me. My art ain’t any better. It will be jarring when you see it in passing but like you said once you get used to it, it becomes just another style. I know some wonky animes and cartoons I’ve watched have a weird art style.
It ain’t just the artstyle, the story itself is wtf
Think it looks great it’s like classic style which is nice
6:57 OH MY GOD I WATCH THIS IT WAS MY FAVORITE ANIME, I didn’t know that others people know this exist, it’s really funny and actually a nice story I too recommend it!
The first time I saw this in my tl It reminded me of Okane Ga Nai. But the hate the artist recieved made me mad.
And also im same as you I'm usually on the sidelines watching the drama😅
I know most of us probably have a “Daddy” kink. So a LARGE man should not be so scary! 😂
I really like your posts
honestly i LOVE the size difference LMAO it gives me a bit of a sarcastic vibe i get from gag manhwas
😅😂 I love your content so much you're so funny ❤
i love artstyle like this yaoi i mean its pretty good but i like power bottom too
Another Yamamoto Kotetsuko stan, I'm proud😭
It's high time someone talks about this
Honestly the only reason I started to read bl was because of you
Please do more videos on Korean BL manhwa. I am new to K-BL (only read Japanese BL before).
I havent read the manhwa but i did see a couple of posts clowning and i did sadly chuckle. I feel bad the artist saw the hate but i absolutely do not stand by it if they sent their followers to those people.
I'm not really an artist, i do it sometimes for fun but i cant help but feel bad for artists getting hate toward them like this. I'm not a fan of the art but i keep that to myself.
Honestly, I want to vote this as The Room of the bl world. It's so bad that it's good.
i dont care that this is gay but why they build like that like oh my god bro WHY ARE THEY BUILT LIKE THAT 💀💀💀💀💀💀
Seen Recca since i was 8 or 10 or what, until now........ I still simp for him like every characters ive worth simping, still single. Respectfully.
I don’t understand why people need to hate on this manhwa. I mean, we just had one of the biggest body size difference yaoi mange a few years back, no? What’s it called? Something bride? And it was so damn popular, it even had it’s own anime series. Anyway, this new generation seems to not have any respect towards artists nowadays because they have a lot to choose for. So different from us, the old fans, where we would get excited if we can get our hands on one of the stories.
I just hope this doesn’t make Numu discourage and keep doing what they want. Thank you for bringing up this title. I’m gonna try and read it.
Damn i feel bad for the mangaka mann
Lol finally someone talked about this !!! as an young artist (and I do mean *young* not 8 though) I judged the art very much I mean I don’t mind big proportions because I already know about the crazy world of art by reading mangas and learning from other people’s art too !!! The storyline is very good too I mean it’s scary but it has the potential to be the greatest too in the Yaoi manhwa world !!! I loved how you pointed out the wrongs and rights it’s very soothing that someone actually understands how hurting it can be to the artist I mean come on ??? We all know we drew them big o’ll foreheads and hands the size of a torso ..anyone ? Ok just me I guess but in all seriousness we should understand we all learn from our mistakes or our bad outtakes ok ? I mean I still suck at anatomy while doing art for 2-3 years ? And I’m absolutely baffled but that does not give you the right to make fun of it !!! Rather help the artist tell them where they might go wrong !!! That’s how everyone learns from each other...
Anyways I should probably catch up on this 💀💕✨ haven’t read this for ages left it on ch10 or sum 🥰💀 also you gained another subscriber here 😘
Omg first
I actually really like this drawing/ art style….but again we are from the same time when that was the norm
Never came across this manhwa until recently saw a few posts on UA-cam. Although the size difference really caught me off guard on that particular panel when they are both are kind of hugging while standing, it's really not anything new. Like the semes/gongs are always portrayed with a larger proportioned body compared to the uke/shou. Also, the pale and large eyes are pretty common when it comes to fair-skinned, innocent, beautiful type of character settings.
The fact that so many people were mocking and laughing at a person's art style just because it looks different from their "norm" is quite frustrating and disheartening. You can't expect an artist to draw that fits everyone's taste well the moment they pick up their brush. They often develop their skills the more they work. A few examples would be k's secret and (in my experience) TGCF. The first few chapters of TGCF and the recent art do look different and i love both of them. And this is literally art, you can't put the standards of body proportions in reality into a fictional world where (in this case), the artist and the author have the say in what is possible and what is out of the limits.
People who don't like a particular style, if it puts them off from reading and enjoying a story, should just take a step back and continue only if they want to. No one is forcing them to read a particular work, so why go around the internet taking behind the artists' works.
Hope the artist won't be too let down by these comments and realize many people still encourage them to continue drawing.
do you know when they’re coming from hiatus i just read through all of it and found your video :((((
To me if you put something online you need to be ready for people not to like it. But also it shouldn't get you hate (we are talking about regular stuff don't twist my word), you shouldn't be bashed for it. but to have something unique well it's to be expected. Especially when the genre has a history of weird proportions becoming memes. You have every right to not like the art style but don't directly attack the artist.
Basically people in certain dc server, the gay peeps who also reads BL, hates this manhwa, idk why i never read it
Someone edited them to look like rodents
I like size difference bl. Im actually ok with this. At least not as much when I read Titan’s Bride or Liebling.

I'm not too sure where the issue of "constructive criticism" plays a legitimate- active role in the heat the art is getting.
Yes, people are making fun of it but from what I've seen, and from my innate biases, its for good shock-value reason. that I neither condone or disagree with 😋.
The issue lies with the portrayal of the characters and the perpetual [downright creepy/predatory] dynamic it shows.
Yaoi/BL/etc. has an issue of making the 'submissive' character look, act, react, blah blah blah like a CHILD. Being older and looking younger isnt an issue, but why does this not apply to fictional portrayals of 'healthy' adult relationships that we all know damn well younger and influential kids will see.
The big ass innocent kawaii anime eyes, the big juicy plump lips, the constant blush, the small skinny hairless body, the hyper feminization and stereotype of the 'uwu uke'.🔫👌🏿😷
Please let me rest in peace I beg. Like what exactly am I supposed to be rooting for in terms of character? Little innocent doe eyed blushy blushy stuttering nuisance getting a restraining order is all I can confidently support at this point.
Brooooo ur so funny like Fr fr
it was a good bl thought🤭🤭
I believe artists should feel free to stylize proportions however they like to emphasize the personalities of characters. Preferably with awareness and purpose of the deviations from real life.
If you want the seme to have some enormous hands to highlight their manly-ness, of course you can do that!
However, if you do not want your characters to look so disproportionate that it looks absurt (or worse: that it lands in the uncanny-valley), then make sure you take a step back from your art every once a while to compare it to real life, flip the canvas, and make sure everything is consistent and in order.
You should read jinx 👾
I had to stop I did give this manhwa go but it was giving 🍭
YAY
I don't think that people need to be a top-of-the-line artist to give criticism. That is how everything in the world works, especially now that we have the internet. Once you put something out for the world to see your giving everyone with access to internet a chance to express their opinion. If we start making it so you have to be experienced in everything before you can say "hey that doesn't look quite right" or "i think ______ could be an improved on" barely anyone can express their opinion on any everyday thing/activity.
Of course, when it comes to people being plain mean or hateful online, that's a whole different story. People hide behind screens to say what they aren't brave enough to say in person (ofc not everyone is like this) and that sucks. But there's not much you can do about people being mean except block them.
Ppl will hate regardless. Take it with a grain of salt and move on get better within your own idea of better. Now if you are trying to sell to other peeps then to some extent you gotta change to fit the wants of your audience. Seems like a balance. Anyways ppl do forget what constructive criticism is. And good luck josh.
I wanna read it, I have been wanting to read it for weeks but I m just wondering.... *how does the lightsaber fit?😭* ????? Bro
did they change it? In there now and he looks different
As an artist myself, I like to think of art as it’s not having any rules. You can literally never see an artist having the exact same style. I think the people who are making fun of the artist, don’t even know how to draw or at least don’t fully understand art. I actually really like the style of this manga and I’m usually in love with every style! And I have never not liked a style enough to not read🤷🏻♀ I feel so sorry for the author just imagine being brave enough to post your art and then you become a laughing stock.
Bro his face😭💀
Sooo you have one piece with 'unrealistic proportion' and people fine (maybe some is not) with it but yaoi cantt??? Hum? What is this people
Also im kinda pissed off when someone decided to 'fixing' the official art like.. have you got nothing to do? Can you just appreciate the artstyle and if you don't like it or maybe uncomfortable with unrealistic proportion then just don't look at it and just skip it whats big of the deal?? Everyone is different i tell ya this is art and no rules apply in art except for plagiarism and any others maybe im sorry im not an artist but i really like art, i cant draw TvT
Damn panjangnyeee thats what she said 🗿
Clearly the people who commented the proportion or what not abt the art style has been living their life in the internet instead of having real life interaction with people. They thought It's internet, anyone can comment whatever they think without filter, not considering the thing that commented is made by another human being that can feel hurt too. The manga art style always not follow the average normal human proportion or size and its clearly more like preference things. I hope the author do not take it too much to their heart
I was traumatized after catching up with the whole story, its umm really F**k up TT
3:23 I start screaming ‘it hurts ow ow my eyes’
Our food is the best
hi luck here for my opinion im ok with most art not hater no no na ah im more someone who love of story and how joke or character grow along in the story so about size not much for example even if the art amazing but story has just so bad i guess its hard to explain but let me give example leveling up, by only eating By Park Min Gyu the art style amazing the colour everything was good A+ but the story was not its just meh for me that what i think of most of art style im ok as long story good thats why i read most of BL they have decent story so im ok cause one thing i want is when reader read the comic they could also experience the story themself thats all from me great video jellies
They think this size proportion has issues? Have they read *The Titan's Bride?!!* 😲😲
THE NAME PLEASE
Most of those people probably don't like bl anyway. Especially on tiktok. They'll find anything to make fun of the bl community and those who like it.
The style is definitely not for me, but I've been seeing art like that for years.
