I just can recommend to read the novels 'Mo Dao Zu Shi' and 'Tian Guan Ci Fu' by Mo Xiang Tong Xiu. She also has a third novel 'Ren Zha Fanpai Zijiu Xitong'. Those novels are soooo good and u won't get confused about the storylines in the animes
For me, Heaven Official's Blessing is the best. The story arch, the characters, and plot, amazing!!! Its definitely a wholesome story compared to other BLs but it may have been because of the restrictions in China.

I'm happy to see Kyou Kara Maou on this list! It seems not many have seen the show or are even familiar with it so it's nice to see someone mention it.
It is literally a BL trap series back then 😂 Tons of people started watching expecting regular fantasy/iseikai stuff going on but then slowly realizing it's BL and then dropped it. People who stuck around are either BL fan to begin with or they have a quirk about finshing a series they started 😂 Of course the story is pretty solid so there are some who stuck around for the story despite the BL aspect.
I really like Kyou Kara Maou! I also did not think of it as a BL when I first watched it. I just saw it as a fantasy anime.
Back when Isekais were not a thing but that made them being good stories unlike 90% of cliché isekais released in the last 6 years
Kyo Kara Maoh is so underrated, but so hilarious. Literally riddled with comedic gold! My first real cosplay was Yuuri Shibuya and my best friend dressed as Wolfram. Great list! I've watched several of these, but there are plenty on here that look fun to check out!
Hitorijime and Daikachi are really good! The romance is adorable, the characters are likable and funny, the opening is full of energy, the animation is beautiful. I like them 😄
A bl who is not very known is Orenchi no furo jijou| A merman in my bath. Wakasa the merman is charming, excited and kind. His friend the octopus guy is honest and protective which is cute. The opening is very serious, don't represent the tone of the anime which is funny. The only thing who is dissapointing, each episode last; and i'm not joking, 2 minutes. It's not enough to fully developped the characters and their relation. 12 would be better.
Junta blackmailing Takato is actually just a common misconception. Not once does Junta ever threaten Takato with the footage. Here's how their interaction went in episode one:
Takato: "Why have you been recording all that? What do you intend to do with that footage?"
Junta: "Um...Well.." (He never says what he's going to do.)
Takato: "For someone who has a harmless face, that's pretty cunning of you. Fine. What do you want? Let's hear it."
Junta: "Huh? What I want?"
Takato: "Don't play dumb! There must be something that you want."
Afterwards, Junta asks Takato if he can do the deed with him, blah blah blah, he never mentions the footage again.
(TLDR: My true favorites are Mo Dao Zu Shi and Tian Guan Ci Fu. Kudos to Mo Xiang Tong Xiu!)
In addition at the end of the anime Takato’s point of view of how he fell in love for Junta makes sense and explains that scene much better .
She is such an awesome writer.

I watched sasaki and miyano is so cute but is only 13 episodes Wich is kinda disappointing but the story and the anime is absolutely amazing and the relationship between both of them is so cute

I love both MDZS and TGCF, but MDZS is my favorite because I LOVE Wei Wuxien. He just has so much personality.
Sekaiichi Hatsukoi is always ranked high on BL anime lists, but I thought it was okay. I wasn't really a fan of Ritsu.
If Wei were real, I don't think I would like him that much, but I agree. He is such a well written character with a lot of personality. He's almost larger than life.
for mo dao zu shi and tian guan ci fu i highly recommend the books. Those are uncensored and so so good!
Also MDZS also has a live action called the untamed. they did change the story somewhat and it is very censored too but we get lots of symbolism for their relationship

you can read from Mangago. For Mo Dao Zu Shi, it's completed. But for Tian Guan Ci Fi, it's not. They have same issues with government policies.

The first 5 to 10 episodes r for free, then u can either wait for the timer to run down or u can pay to skip the timer. Timers take 1min, 1h, 6h, 12h, 24h. HOB/TGCF is on there and my personal fav: I ship my rival x me (HILARIOUS, fluffy, adorkable)

I understand your feelings about Sekai-ichi, but for me Junjou will always be my number one cause Misaki is the best BL character hands down! It is just a shame that we will probably never get another season since it seems that Sakurai Takahiro-san, Misaki's seiyuu oh and also Yuri's seiyuu from Kyo Kara Mao, said he did not really want to do BL anymore. Damn shame cause the man was good. He was even in Gakuen Heaven!🥺 Oh and my fav couple in Sekai-ichi is Kisa and his prince Yukina!🥰

Even though gravitation wasnt included because its an older anime, its still one of my alltime favorites, even though not many people know about it, i highly recommend it if you can get past the toxicity in the beginning, its a great watch.

You tend to see the same few bl anime on these lists (as well as some that aren't even officially tagged and marketed as bl, but that's a whole another convo), since not a lot of them get made (on average, maybe one fullfledged 12 episode anime a year or even less. Or either one movie or two short OVAs, or a combo of some sort). Also not a whole lot of variety, especially when you compare it to its manga counterpart and other genres.
But this was a nice, coherent list, a little but from everything we have atm. ^^ kudos for including some donghua as well, people sadly tend to leave them out.

Your top one favourite bl anime is the same thing as mine gurl sekaiichi hatsukoi is the best bl anime i have ever watch. Its the second bl anime i found but its my top 1 favorite of all the sence are just amazing especially the movie as well.
my number one has to be given it is the only anime overall up to this date that gave me the feels....and that song will stay with me till I die...might play it at my funeral.

The way I watched every freaking version of mo dao zu Shi. Like the book, the animew the audio book, the live action, the EVERYTHING omg and it's still the best
Btw for mo dao zu Shi, it could be confusing true, but once you understand, the whole story . You'll see that it's one of the prefect written stories without exaggeration. I think that watching the live action is the best to understand the story first, later You'll find the anime very fun where you can focus on the little cute moments rather than the whole story
Please please watch Word of Honor! It’s as good as MDZS. One of the best live action BLs out there. (Aside from the censorship, sadly). But they still make it crystal clear the two are in a relationship.

I love MDZS with my whole heart. I definitely agree that the anime is confusing for first timers. However I read the graphic novels first, then watched the anime so it wasn’t difficult for me. That’s why I suggest people read it first, but it’s fine if you don’t read it.
Watch The Untamed! It’s an amazing live action adaptation. Honestly, so good! (It skips the explicit stuff sadly, due to Chinese censorship). Also, Word of Honor. Truly some of the best BL I’ve seen.
I haven’t seen any of those anime’s but I think the last one was the very first BL Manga I ever read.
I love that one moment in Hitorijime my Hero (the anime) where Masahiro and Kousuke are at that sunset scene and have a lil kinda sorta argument but not really then Masahiro runs away in a super goofy ahh way while Kousuke is just a still image (the moment was supposed to be serious but it made me work my abs instead) 💯💯

Yes, this list is so good! Bunch of stuff I haven't watched before, so I will def check some of these out! Also, thank you for mentioning which ones are non-con or student-teacher. I don't really like watching that kind of stuff, so I'll just skip those. But, Tian Guan Ci Fu and Mo Dao Zu Shi are my absolute favs and the animation and relationships are just so damn good!

I'd check out the anime for mdzs or the live action honestly. It's censord so it stays pretty tame but omg the story is great and the characters are even better. I think I'll remember Wei wuxian for a long time to come. Wen Ning too.
