Out of all of Hitchcock's classic, Notorious is my numero uno.
No matter how many times, Ive watched it, Im NEVER bored. This film really is strangely unique.

Ingrid Bergman one of the most beautiful actresess ever! As far as talent, she surely is nowadays the greatest, number one in the history.
Cary Grant the most leading man in the hollywood golden era, Notorius wonderful movie and Mr Hitch best director ever!
Anyhow most of Ingrid Bergman's movie are amazing. She was really great!

Cinematography is painting with light. At 0:00 his face is in grey shades, suggesting a pensive mood. Her face is lit with high contrast, suggesting hope and fear, and a passionate nature. And then, as the bad news dawns on her, she turns around and her face goes into a black shadow at 0:43. Great!
Enjoying it immensely - thank you for sharing this. ))

i absolutey love how she has to smile when sebastian looks at her - a blatanly unnatural and unaffected smile - and how she grows sad when he kisses her. she never changes her face expression, but we can clearly see from her eyes that all this comedy with sebastian makes her suffer. on the contrary, her eyes sparkle with love and hope every time she is near to grant. the greatest actress of all times

Ingrid Bergman was definitly one of the best and most beautiful actresses ever! Claude Rains mostly had supporting roles unfortunately. He's one of the best actors of all time, in my opinion. He could play any character in every kind of movie/genre. Romantic, Drama, Horror, Comedy, Thriller, etc. etc.

Ingrid was such a luminous, sensual, natural actress. My favourite chapeau is the one she wears to the game!

His movie always has a hero and a heroine. I used to watch his movie with my mother in living room. It's a nostalgic remembrance.

3:08- 3:21 is classic Hitchcock film technique, putting you right there with her from outside her world. So subtle and beautiful.

Just after this scene, Hitchcock had filmed the four riders having drinks at the riding-club café/restaurant, where Devlin gets introduced to Sebastian and the Countess who was riding alongside him. This bit of the action was edited-out but certain frames from it were used in lobby-cards and publicity-stills: the actors can be seen seated at a table, wearing the riding-clothes they wore in the horseback sequence.

Thanks for posting this bit of cinema photography trivia. I love it! Hitchcock and his brilliant, alas uncredited cameraman.

Ingrid always had high contrast on her face, it makes her look beautiful and hopeful!

Yeah, she is gorgeous in this film. Thanks for posting. I have not watched much early Hitchcock. Just the regulars like NBNW, Vertigo, Stangers on a Train and Birds, etc. This is interesting.

Ingrid's subtle rejection is a marvel to watch.

Yes, she was tall -- but she was also dressed up so delightfully well in this film, I'm sorry she wasn't shod with more style. ... Disparate height or no they had good chemistry. Claude Rains was marvelous--as was she. Thanks for the info.

@kyryako ah yes but it is no different now. using ppl who are in a difficult position to further the "state's" nefarious goals. "all for the gretaer good.... for queen and country" and all that kind of jingoism.
the film itself is (so far) enthralling and beautifully acted and shot

This year, for Christmass, I want Claude Rains to leer at me whilst naming the myriad dirty things going on in his mind... even if it's brands of dish detergent.

Mrs Bergman was very tall, 175 cm to be exact. Claude Rains was 169 cm; she did'nt need heels.

I am interested in the fact that they showed Ms. Bergman dressed up in sequins and black gloves but she's wearing very serviceable flats. Would that have been normal day dress shoes for women back then with that kind of outfit or was it a studio error allowing her feet in the photo? Greta Garbo (who had big feet) always wore bedroom slippers on the sets. She would frequently ask, "Are the feets in?" By the end of her career she would perform no scenes in which she had to wear heels.
