    Ben is back, and a "practical endgames" series is an *awesome* idea. Endgames are exactly what's needed by -players- patzers around my level. This is so, so great!
    /me rushes to watch

      Jason Doe: The end game is the only part of the game I actually tend to (somewhat) know what I'm doing, and I love to watch videos like this too. Finegold is a great and humorous Chess teacher.

      @@rogergeyer9851 I didn't expect an answer to a 7-year-old comment, haha!
      Glad you're discovering and enjoying Ben's content :D

    I would say considering a Ben Finegold lecture, there is a 85% chance of at least on Marathon Man reference occuring...

    11:10 Did engines improve that much in two years? I gave mine 3 minutes and it said mate in 26. And it gave +50 after 10 seconds.

    At 26:15 why can't black just check with his rook and transpose into the other variation? Doesn't seem like f3 was a mistake.

    • @joedoe6836
      @joedoe6836 8 років тому

      I'm saying play the rook check before moving his king to protect his pawn

    • @joedoe6836
      @joedoe6836 8 років тому

      Ah, I was reading protecting the pawn as forced. With only one pawn, black presumably can't queen.

    What happens at 29:56 if white takes the pawn with queen in hopes for a draw? I'm thinking something like this: ... Qxg3 Rg5 Kh2 Rxg3 Kxg3 Be7 Kxh3 Kf6 Kg4, and it seems to me black can't really do anything?

    • @lashiechoax
      @lashiechoax 9 років тому

      +Embou Jarppunen Down a piece, white can never hold that. In this case just Bd6 next, the white king will have to move and lose the pawn immediately. then it's simple for black

    Nobody reacted to his comment about Hoffman and Olivier. It's from the Marathon Man, 1976 for crying out loud.

  • @alexanderdrake3712

    25:58 Isn't this a draw? If white queen's, and you do the skewer tactic, white can take opposition on the turn after you take the queen and draw the king vs king and pawn endgame.
    ...Rc1+
    Kd3 ...Rxc8
    Ke3, and white has the opposition and can draw. What am I missing?

    • @mata91yt
      @mata91yt 6 років тому

      To answer your question, you're missing the rook on c8

  • @samyipsh5381

    12:06 taking on f4 would meet e3, fxe3 then f3 wouldnt it?

    • @waschkarte3989
      @waschkarte3989 5 років тому +1

      @jqbtube yeah, but that's what Samuel meant. Kd4 e3 and then not fxe3 but Kd3 seems to win. exf2 Ke2 or else you take on e3 the next move, meeting anything with Ke2 (well, f3 then Kxe3 of course).
      But I fell for fxe3 at first, too. Easy to miss Kd3.

  • @bjarnieinarsson3472
    @bjarnieinarsson3472 8 років тому

    In the King's endgame after RxR(d7) at. ca 10min, Kc3 is almost bad.. b6 is so winning and what's more, the most strategically move in this position and the pos just screams for that move. Black got some change because of cxb and a5, after b6 black is simply lost in all accounts simply because black King is completely tied down on Q-side.

    • @bjarnieinarsson3472
      @bjarnieinarsson3472 8 років тому

      Hmmm.. my english may be bad (I'm from Iceland).. but your understandings is even worse (what is your excuse). I'm talking about the pos where white played Kc3 as I stated in my post. That is, the pos after white has taken black rook and black taken back KxR.. pretty obvious if you have any chess skills. The pos after black KxR screams for b6, creating protected passed pawn on the edge of the board.. 101 in pawn ending.

    • @bjarnieinarsson3472
      @bjarnieinarsson3472 8 років тому

      Are you some kind of dumb? The pos I'm refering to is at exact 10.30 after Black takes Rook back with King and white replys with Kc3 as I said in the orginal post. If you can read, then my post start with the following statement, "In the King's endgame.. " etc. Endgame with rooks is not, Kingd endgame. King's endgame is when there is only pawns left (of cause with king's, just in case you don't know how chess is played)

      Technically it is still the chess club. Lester's Restaurant went out of business and the club bought it and now uses the dining areas for some of the chess tournaments and the lectures now.

    I wish Ben left politics out of the lecture, regardless of his views correlating with mine. I get that it's supposed to bring levity and all but it's out of place and a bit in bad taste when discussing a game that transcends culture and class, in my opinion.

    • @sergi-13
      @sergi-13 7 років тому

      LSDO Do you say this because of the Thatcher comment?

    • @LSDOvideos
      @LSDOvideos 7 років тому +1

      I dunno, I don't remember this video in its entirety. It probably was about Thatcher though. Anyway. He brings up politics in more than just this lecture. Again, I don't care what he thinks but it's inappropriate.
