Anyone can win when they're winning, you gotta win when you're losing ! Finegold wisdom at it's finest. This is probably my third time running through Finegold's playlist, when can we expect him to come back for more lectures ?
Where do you get all those lecturers from? They are all fantastic! I haven't seen even one lecturer on this channel that wasn't absolutely great. I envy the kids there...
I talked about that earlier but you forgot. proving you are not an elephant because elephants never forget. Such an awesome teacher Ben is. he corrected, reminded, softly reprimanded and made a teachable moment all while wrapping it up in allowing us to realize we are all fallable.
38:45 In the "key position of my life" instead of 1...Ra6 I would consider 1...a3 2.Ra7 Rb1+ 3.Kf2 Rb2+ followed by 4...a2. But now I see that the game continuation is stronger.
Neat idea but it fails to bishop takes c7. If you take the rook on b3, the only move to not be down material, black pawn recaptures and you must play bishop d4 to stop it from advancing. Computer evaluates this as around -4.2 in black's favor since black's king can just march in and win all your kingside pawns and the white bishop is completely tied down. Also there are tricks for black playing bishop b6 since the white bishop can't capture because it has to guard b2, so the black bishop forces its way in easily.
Ben: You gotta put your pawns on the color of your opponents bishop so it can't move, lower rated players make the mistake of putting it on the opposite color so they can't get attacked. Also Ben: So the black pawns are one the same color as the bishop, so they can get attacked, the white pawns are on the opposite color so they can't be attacked, that's good for white.
Crazy that 8 years later Ding liren becomes World chess champion
Ben Fingold's lectures are still the best :D
They’re still still the best :D
One thing I love about this guy is that he knows a lot about chess world in general, is really instructive to listen him

This is the clearest it's ever been illustrated for me why strong players prefer Bishops over knights in the endgame.

Put the AC on Ben!

I love these contemporary chess game analyses, the classics are always great but they get boring eventually

...you didn't see me raising my hand! But you told me to - so i did!
This is so german - raising the hand if somebody told you to do so!
39:23 I would have played rb1+ and then rb2+, and then my pawn just runs up the board. Edit: nevermind. That would work with a queen but not a rook.
27:41 y cant white move rook to check blacks king then pin the bishop and rook
+Yashu Kumar 6 months later... becuase of rook a1 :-)
