- You all seemed to enjoy me talking about some obscure myths for figures that I thought would make particularly interesting demons in the Megami Tensei franchise, so I'm back with ten more. Whether they show up in Perona, SMT, Soul Hackers, or whatever else Atlus has in mind, I'd be happy to see any of these folks with a proper demon design in the franchise.

It is kinda weird that SMT has yet to tap into Christmas related folklore at all as far as I know. Krampus just feels like he would fit in perfectly.
Aside from that there is also one of my favorite obscure gods: Kasogonaga, a weather deity of Argentinas Toba people that looks like a small rainbow-colored anteater.
I have this fun idea of Santa Clause appearing in SMT at some point too, and would be the rival of Krampus (much like Kuldak and Kresnik). Santa Clause having an army of Jack Frost against Krampus sounds epic honestly (although idk what army Krampus would have, but I assumed an army of black frost)
Again i would love to see Demons based in Myths and Legends of my country Venezuela, El Silbon, La Sayona, Juan Machete and Bola de Fuego are peak candidates

In regards to Ogopogo, I think he has more than you're giving him credit for.
For starters, its true name is not "Ogopogo", that was actually an invention of the settlers of the era and popularized by a song they played on the radio (not kidding). Its real name is Naitaka, which is from the Secwepemc and Syilx tribes of the area. And it's not just a big snake-like thing, but is actually closer to eastern dragons being something more like a water spirit, being not just the guardian of Lake Okanagan, but EVERY lake and body of water in the region, including those in the US.
In fact tribe members from the Okanagan region would rather you think of him like that, rather than just being a big snake.
A mythical creature that has fascinated me for a few years now is the Nuckelavee. It’s a sort of centaur-like creature from Scotland, it still has the horse head, bearing a single eye that shines a burning red, while the human torso with long lanky arms and sharp claws is attached somewhere along its back, and the whole thing is skinless with pure muscle covering its body. It primarily lives at sea, but is known for many land related incidents such as killing crops and spreading disease amongst livestock with its toxic breath. It can’t stand fresh water, so if it ever comes on land and is pursuing someone, their best hope of escape is to cross a river. Its size can vary from that of a standard horse to being as tall as a building, and the burning of seaweed is thought to enrage it greatly.

Two things:
1.Did you know four of the Malebranche appear as bosses in FF IV? They are the elemental fiends of the game (Scarmiglione-Earth, Cagnazzo-Water, Barbariccia-Wind and Rubicante-Fire)
2. My dad is from the canary islands (spain) and id love to see some figures from Guanche myth implemented, when Glasya Labolas wan first shown i really thought it was a Tibicenas (basically demon dogs), theres also Achaman, a god of the sky or Guayota, thr main evil deity who resides inside the Teide volcano in Tenerife.
How about Morana? She is a slavic goddess of winter, cold and death. In Poland we call her Marzanna and we actually have a tradition where we make a doll of her that we then take and throw into a river when spring begins. Nowadays it's mostly done in schools and kindergartens for small kids. this tradition has been dying off lately, especially in the cities but it still sometimes happen. I actually participated in such event once when i was a small boy. I think that she would fit well into smt, i would base her design on those dolls that we make of her.

In general I would like to see more Slavic gods because they are pretty interesting and there aren't enough of them in smt.
Not only that but the polish diaspora especially polish American still do like my family(although we didn't do due to time sadly and we joke that the consequence# is dealing with cold spring days we have)
The Dahu , a french cryptid could also be a cool addition due to how goofy it is

Creepy pastas and scps would be great for devil summoner and persona
I know a lot of folks mentioned Slenderman in my last video. I'm not against the idea but supposedly there are some kind of licensing rules or things for some of those figures so I'm not sure how likely it would be. Then again, the same could apply to that weird clock I talked about for all I know, so who can say?
Slenderman is the right choice, but sadly Atlus can get some Legal Issues because Slender has Copyright
i have some silly ideas:
internet troll, cotton-eye joe, chess pieces, luchador, heidrun, priapus, diogenes, sisyphus, ixion, gilgamesh (apparently already in demikids), nurikabe (apparently in giten megami tensei), black volga (preferably as a demon evolution of chris the car), and something based on colonel sanders (it was once believed that the ghost of colonel sanders cursed a japanese baseball team)
As for my pick, I'd say Skinwalker, a witch of Navajo culture said to be able to transform into/possess all manner of creature. A simple concept, but one that I think can work quite well. Maybe even reference Gemini Home Entertainment if Atlus is feeling crazy.
Ngl, but SMT could also add more demons that are characters from classic literature, like for example, they could add the Ghost of Doktor from Dziady Cz. 3 by Adam Mickiewicz.
Doktor's ghost form is constantly burning and screaming while holding melted ducats.
The reason why his spirit is like this is because his death was caused by a lightning which struck the exposed ducats in his room, and the electricity bounced off the coins and burned the man while he has asleep.
His fate was a punishment for being a greedy traitor.
in speaking of the cthulhu mythos, the hounds of tindalos seems like it would make a decent fit especially if time travel is involved.
El cuero is from chilean folklore, not from argentinian folklore, argentina has many interesting urban legends, some cases I can think fast of are: Belek, a short person circus performer who is also a killer and a vampire, the Santa Isabel Entity and the Cat Man which is more difficult to research of but was a case of mass hysteria similar to The Mad Gasser of Mattoon which is already a demon, (in the Cat Man case it was reported that a man wearing iron claws and a cat mask was wandering through the night meowing without effort as in, it was obvious that the meowing was that of a human imitating a cat instead of a cat and he allegedly attacked some bystanders who walked to close to him, then the legend got more complex, with people reporting on that a brazilian cult that practiced martial arts were behind the Cat Man case)
These were truly fantastic suggestions. Original, well-justified, and fits within smt's mode & style.
I ADORE the chronophage. It's the perfect amount of weird for the series, would look super cool, and I'd never heard of it before.
I agree that Yomagn'tho would be a better fit if it were to be introduced in a persona title, very good assessment of themes.
I now adore Feng. It could be part of the "Food" or UMA race.

The first two don’t originate from any mythology, they are stock archetypes.
1. Super hero
2. Cartoon
The rest are from myth/folklore.
3. Ros Beiaard - Belgian folklore.
4. Nain Rouge - American folklore
5. Eki - Basque Mythology, sun goddess
6. Lleu Llaw Gyffes- Welsh mythology, hero.
7. Auriaria - Oceania mythology.
As a mexican, I wanna see the Charro Negro (Black Charro in english), an spirit wearing a black charro outfit adorned with gold and silver and riding a black horse that appears in front of travelers at night and offering them riches in exchange for their souls.
btw, don't think I didn't notice that Pink Floyd reference at the end of the Feng segment.
As a Marylander, I have to mention the Snallygaster.
But I think you could create a demon based on the Blair Witch. It’s an in-universe legend in the movie and the movie itself fooled many people into believing in the events. She could be a high level member of the Rumor race and for legal purposes could be just labeled as Blair.
Thanks for including south american folklore because we need more of that in this series. Like, not even inca mythology has many reps... There's Inti, I guess.

Yeah. Certain figures are like...around, but don't really show up in many titles. It's weird. Persona 1 has a three-headed Bison that I want to see more of
There aren't really any demons based on figures from Dutch and Belgian folklore/mythology, so here's some that I think would be cool (mucho texto alert):
Nehalennia, a goddess associated with shipping, trade and fertility.
Hercules Magusanus, A syncretism of Hercules and Magusanus (thought to be another name of Thor) who acted as the patron deity of the Batavi people.
Arduinna, the tutalary goddess of the Ardennes forrest who rides atop a boar.
Witte wieven, female ghosts or spirits of the fog that are said to live in burial mounds, in which they hoard treasure and keep abducted children.
Ellert and Brammert, a pair of giants that robbed and killed travellers.
Tientôn-elfrib, the ghost of the Frisian king, Radbod, who had almost gotten baptized, but backed out last minute upon learning none of his heathen ancestors would be in heaven. This action supposedly caused him to turn into a ghost upon death, taking the appearance of a skeleton with ten toes, eleven ribs and the head of a pike. He drowns children that get to close to the water.
Kyrië, a king of the Kabouters (a race of little people often compared to Gnomes) in the Campine region of North-Brabant. It is said that in the 1950's Kyrië was shot by a hunter, causing him to die not long after using the last of his strength to reach the Duivelsberg, where the Kabouters lived. His death caused great grief among the Kabouters, which led to them leaving the region, never to be seen again.
Lange Wapper, a man capable of changing his size to be bigger or smaller (although preferring to stay large). He was given his power by a woman he had saved from drowning in the Scheldt river. He uses his power to play tricks on people.
Ya know it's funny you mention that because I actually was looking into Belgian lore when I was putting this list together, so maybe I will wind up there at some point!
If I woudl include a monster from Lovecraft into SMT it would be a Mi-go mainly because of their unique designs and how I think it be kind of cool to something along the lines of The Roswell Greys being included in SMT owing to their whole abducting people and stuffing their brains into jars shtick they have.
I want some representation from my home continent Australia specifically from the Indigenous Dream Time Stories. One such story is about the Wandjina, powerful Rain Maker spirit associated with the north-west region of the Kimberley in Western Australia.
(Disclaimer I am not Indigenous myself but I am fascinated by Indigenous culture)
As a Swiss guy I feel like I should recommend a folk hero character that would either work as a generic demon or will be the next P5 spinoff’s main persona.
Wilhelm Tell.
His crossbow skills are legendary and he is a famous for rebelling against the Habsburg empire, being sort of a founding myth of the country.

I’m interested in the ares goetia because of hellava boss and alot of them in smt are really cool and faithful to the source material. Want them to update asmodeus and leviathan

One demon that should be added to the Megaten series is the creepypasta monster known as "The Rake", which is a more modern example, appearing in the early 2000s.
For the Persona series specifically, The Loch Ness Monster (i.e Nessie) one of the best known Scottish urban legends, should make an appearance in the future Persona 6.
one of the fun parts about making persona 5 related ocs and stories is i often end up going down trickster god/goddess rabbit holes, as well as specific figures in both mythology & fiction, and while its not in public domain, i would love to - one day - see the dread pirate roberts from the princess bride be a persona or demon. a title passed down from person to person associated with one of the best romantic heroes of - at least - the 90s with the phrase 'as you wish'. again, hes not in public domain right now so its probably just a pipe dream, but roberts would be fun!
also im surprised that chang'e hasn't been used yet in smt! at least - according to my quick search on the smt wiki. for all i know she could've been used and i just cant find her lol
Just recently purchased Kazuma Kaneko works and man there’s so many great demon designs they don’t use which is upsetting.
Although releasing newer demons in the future would be nice.
Wishing for Baltic/Finnish/Siberian myths also. Perkunas is quite a notable figure (Or Perkele, even) and his opposite Velnias (Thought akin to devil, though ancient belief might not align with that). Perkunas rides in a fiery horse/chariot, sometimes goats or other animals.
Väinämöinen the sage (Also god of rivers), is also pretty popular figure from Kalevala.
Finnish Underworld, Tuonela, has it's God, Tuoni and his family, which include his daughters. Goddesses like Vammatar and so forth, who reside over every human's pain, disease and so forth. Also the black wolf Surma (Which is a literal word for murder), which hearing it's howl, means a violent death.
Sakha/Yakut 'Aar Toion' is quite obscure, but in a lot of ways thought to be supreme deity as well. With also heavy practices of shamanism and spirits.
I’d love to see more creatures from Slavic myth like Svarog, Perun, and Veles. Chernabog could certainly use the company.
If the add the Malabranche, i can do Burning Abyss combos in smt. Tour Guid summon Graff, Overly for Dante, mill 3 and detach graff, graff sommon Cir.
Not sure if they have not been mentioned yet, but from Mexican folklore I would like to see Nahuales, the local therianthropes, or Witches, old hags that abuse their sense-manipulating and life-draining abilities on innocents. For more international Rumor demons, I vote for Black Volga, an urban legend from the old Soviet states relating to an evil black car that kidnaps innocents to have their life, blood or organs sucked out, or the Beast of Bodmin/Exmoor, monstrous cats prowling the British moors. There is also the Santa Compaña, the Spanish/Portugese version of the Wild Hunt, and the Hawaii Night Marchers.
Bit of a correction El Cuero can mean leather but can also be translated to The Skin

For me I'd like to see the Benandanti in a future SMT game. They're a group of Italian werewolves that take on the form of wolves at night and wield iron bars to fight witches and demons in the underworld to preserve the fertility of their farmland. I'm just imagining a badass bo-staff wielding werewolf that would be a neat counterpart to the Loupgarou that was introduced in SMT 5, being a heroic take on the creature.
I'd like to see what a demon based on the story of the game Polybius would look like or one based on the Hounds of Tindalos.
I really wish Brazilian Folklore got a demon other than a minor Devil Children demon.
Now that the demi fiend is recruitable i would like to see prior game protags have a party slot or recruitable

Can't help feeling like we should have more Gothic horror literature demons. Y'know, Dracula, Frankenstein's Monster, Mr. Hyde, etc. It just feels weird that they're not more common.
On a personal note, if I could have one wish for a Megaten game, I would really want a Persona game with different characters from the King Arthur mythology. Maybe their designs could be based around mecha, so that you keep that "armoured" vibe visually for all the knight Personas without making them look too similar. Mecha style allows for a lot of creativity, after all.
Also, I'd like to see some of the more obscure Ancient Egyptian deities, such as Nepthys; the goddess of death, magic, and the night - or Khepri, the scarab god of the rising sun and renewal.
Honestly wish we could see demons or personas based on modern mythology/memes such as The clown sightings or Blue whale or even the infamous Momo images. There are SEVERAL designs that look Generic/Off such as Hooligans, Patriot, Junkie, Rastaman Etc from the older games, so I could see these working out rather well, such as a rusted, Mechanical looking whale for Blue whale with glitching eyes, Or for the clowns do a sort of Dead By Daylight approach where you get one clown demon but in different designs and body types simply for aesthetic Similar to Legion in DBD having different genders and designs despite only using one at a time

I personally really want the Futakuchi-Onna to make her debut in the series; the inspiration for the Pokemon Mawile would totally fit within the weird world of MegaTen. Also some demons based on popular culture or books could always be cool; maybe a demon based on the Ars Goetia itself or a persona based off A.I., the possibilities are endless!
A demon based on the Ars Goetia itself would just be “Featuring Tyrant Goetia from Fate/Grand Order.” Which I support, do an FGO collab including Artoria (special fusion: Fairy Vivian + Snake Pendragon), Gilgamesh, and Emiya.

I would go with the Tikbalang from filipino mythology. Think a muscular man with a head of a horse. They are super fast and strong. They love to steal women to do...things.
The interesting bit is you can tame them by stealing one of the three spines hiding under its mane.

I want more conspiracy theory based things in smt. Doesn’t have to be a demon or a design for a demon, it could be something else like demons coming out of crop circles or some shit. Personally I find it kinda funny to put these into the game which is why I wanna have more of that stuff in
We did have Chemtrails in SMTIV and Skyfish is in the DemiKids series, so it's not outside the realm of possibility.

1:15 Jangmo-o, Hakamo-o and Kommo-o would like to have a word with you.
The word mo'o is often just used for lizards in general, even when not directly talking about the mythical shapeshifting ones. They may have the mo-o name, but Salazzle fits the half woman half lizard story a lot more.

When I think of characters I'd like to see being turned into demons/personas, 3 names come to mind:
- Zabaniyah/Zabaniyyat, a group of 19 angels taked with torturing the souls of sinners is Islamic belief;
- Madama Butterfly, the titular character from an opera, ispired on a short story. Butterfly (also known as Cho-Cho-san) fell in love with a US service man, who married her for convenience with the intention of leaving her once he found a proper American wife. Butterfly would have a child with him and wait three years for his return, only to see him arrive with his new wife, who had agreed to raise Butterfly's child as their own. Heartbroken, Butterfly agreed to give up the child to the couple before taking her own life to preserve her family's honor;
- Algernon, a mouse from the novel Flowers for Algernon, in which the titular animal undergoes surgery to increase his intelligence. The story is told by a series of progress reports written by Charlie Gordon, the first human subject for the surgery, and it touches on ethical and moral themes such as the treatment of the mentally disabled. This one has technically already appeared, but only as a weapon in P4
Tldr, I just want more demons isnpired on modern literauture
