I was absolutely hypnotized by Mr. Clarke's talent and personality and I'm very happy to be in the position to share this documentary with the world! IMPORTANT: Mr.Clarke taught at more places than the two mentioned in the video, for example he also taught at ST.MARY HIGH. He listed ALL of these places during the interview, starting from the school where he studied himself. He also showed way more pictures of his students than featured in the video. At the end of the interview, I had about 5 hours of the footage that I had to fit into 1 hour video, so when editing, it was very difficult to make decisions regarding what to keep and what to leave for other videos. I apologize if you see that some important information is missing, e.g. if your school wasn't named - Mr. Clarke mentioned all of them and spoke kindly about everybody! :)
I was too, he is brilliant, his work is phenomenal and his way of teaching would help anyone aspiring to creat images, thank you and Happy New Year, a very astute interview, the right questions, loved it
Irene, will you be giving feedback to Mr. Clark. That there is demand for his Art and his services and his remarkable contribution to his students. His art would be a good private tourists visit for sales items, featuring on bnb site if he wants to sell his art. He's amazing
Miss Bruce I want to learn your job I am going to start schooling on this I would love to get in contact with you please give a response thank you very much
My former colleague at Cornwall College. The easiest way to describe Clyde is Genius...he is an amazing teacher, born to teach, but more importantly, he is a prodigious creator of Art, in its many manifestations. Exceptionally gifted. Salute my friend.
Yo... This is pure class.. Mr Clarke was my Art teacher in Cornwall College.. He is a genius... Even to this day 35 years later I still remember his teachings.. What a honor.. Blessed love and thank you for the video.
My Art teacher & inspiration. Mr Clark taught me 1993-1995 at his afterschool Art club. He is still one of the most sincere, supportive, talented and dedicated people I've ever met. THANK YOU Sir for the privilege of learning and being facilitated by you.
This man Was the Most Brilliant teacher while I was at Cornwall college always outstanding!!! Black Excellence!!! Jamaica National Treasure!!!! Much Respect Mr. C.
A most fascinating subject feature (Clyde Clarke), and an enriching subject matter (art). Thank you for highlighting a national treasure. Yes, Mr. Clyde Clarke is one such talent. I echo your sentiments JAMAICA WITH IRIE. It's almost a tragedy that such specialized expertise and wealth of knowledge isn't being utilized and recognized sufficiently to unleash endless possibilities as a society and as individuals. What beautiful and copious amounts of pieces in Mr. Clarke's private collection! The education of the hows and whys is intriguing. As you do, I strongy feel that these works should be prominently displayed for Jamaica and the world to see. As a young child I was a very good copy artist, so this was a most enjoyable presentation. Suspenseful, joyful, one of the most poignant, reflective, pensive and even profound moments I've ever witnessed ..... WHAT IS ART? What a wonderful moment! One that made me laugh out loud because you could almost see the inner workings of Clyde Clarke's mind as he sort of struggles to carefully craft an answer to a most difficult quesition. 26 or 27 seconds of pause and silence illustrates just how difficult it is to define art. Overall, very well done and kudos!
Mia tell u! Trust me when I say this, Mr. Clark is very ARTiculate and may be seen even seen as ' verbally artistic ' as well, but, A DI FIRST ME SEE HIM ' DUMBSTRUCK ' 😄.... Trust mi!
😊I do not need any help to love my people and my Paradise Island in the sun, but you our Friend keep me falling in love with both people and Country over and over again😍 You are such a blessing. May God continue to give you these great contents to bless us with, which should remind us to thank God for the richness of His abundant blessings to us, of which you our Friend, are one. Love Always💖
One of the few interviews I've watched that really totally blew my mind. I thought he was going to say that he studied art in Moscow or at Oxford. He shamed me into remembering how we sometimes devalue what we have in Jamaica. What an amazingly talented, articulate, and blessed man. Thank you for publishing this content. It definitely opened my mind and eyes to many things.
Irina you just touch my life love, that is Art. My ex-husband was an artist, which came naturally to him. He never got an art lesson in his life.. I was so proud of him that I have entered him in so many Art competitions. He was so good.,and he had no limit to the medium he used and method of art. He embraced technological art later years and I was with him during those discovery stages. I learn art in the 1st 2 years of high school. Lost the courage because like he said I wasn't taught how to use simple shape, like squares, rectangles ,cones etc and modify them to get body imagines or objects. I would have loved to had those step by step lessons to nurture my talent with arts. I do love his work and have collected similar art pieces. I will say yes art is growing. I do also have a friend who is a skillful/talented sculpture... he does awesome work. He would be at Devon's House during cultural weekend many years ago.. I miss it so much. Thanks again Irina. You brought to me one of my greatest love Art, especially 🇯🇲 Jamaican Art.. wow
Wow! Iris I really like how you represent Jamaica with such positive videos. I am truly amaze ever time you put out a video. Mr Clark your life is a success. You are living your purpose on this earth on the beautiful rock call Jamaica. I am very proud to call myself Jamaican because of people like you. Your work should never be allowed to die. In my eyes you and your work is a Jamaican treasure.
Excellent documentary on Clyde Clarke whom I never heard of until watching this video. He is unquestionably deserving of the title Master Teacher! Well done to you both.
This is superb! Is there a possibility for Mr Clark's work to establish a Museum of Arts in Jamaica? This is unusual Talent. Sir, I'm proud of you! As an educator like myself it's such a blessing to know you've made a difference in so many lives. BE BLESSED!!🙏🙏👏🙌
Sir Clarke, Masterclass at Cornwall College 1992-1997 (my years there). Art teacher from 1st form to 3rd. Wasn't my official teacher in 1st but switched to his room several sessions
That man...Mr Clyde Clarke he should have been honored in Jamaica decades ago. I am a former student of his and I am honored to be a student of his. Class of 1992-1996
I have never taken art classes of any kind. For me art is a personal appreciation of life. The sculptures of Clyde Clarke seen in your video are, to me, expressions of life that I find absolutely fascinating. There is a huge difference between most commercial art (which are generally attempts to portray what the artist thinks the audience would like and buy) and the kind of personal art (which involves the true personal interest of the artist) that Mr. Clarke does. This is very well expressed in his inference that his art is not intended to be Black art or Egyptian art or African art or Jamaican art - they are Clyde Clarke's art. Well done and thanks for sharing, Happy new year.
Definition of excellence... Mr Clark's artistic talent and his vision as an artist is quite extraordinary, considering the humble materials he sources for his various projects. With his imagination and wisdom combined, he fashioned his visions into beautiful works of art. What a man and what unique talent. Thank you Irina for sharing Mr Clark's exceptional talents with us. I hope he gets the recognition he truly deserves.
Naturally born gifted talent, following on from his great ancestors, African arts, pyramid art. He should get his past students to set him up on the Internet, he would be very successful. Well done Irie, another great vlog.
Definitely advocating for this. The last part, relating to his work and producing it, I was like, ' Mr. Clark, den dat no easy man '. I am almost certain that in no time, someone will get the production and marketing aspect of his work done. Time alone will do everything!
My art teacher from St. Mary High, 1988. Voice sounds the same. Can still remember the first day he introduced himself as Clyde Clark, no Mr. I'm now an art teacher myself. Nuff nuff respec Clyde Clark.
That’s my high school Arts teacher right there! That’s EXACTLY how he is in class, nothings changed one bit! Thanks to him I won 2nd place in the National Art Competition back in 1999
The Great Man himself, Mr. Clark! Spent a couple years under his tutelage at that great institution, Cornwall College. Good to see that you did a video on him and his work. The ideology of self awareness and discovery of one's consciousness through art is profound and essential in the development of the total human being. We were fortunate as boys to be guided by him and his teachings and philosophies. Another gem of an interview Irie Lady!👍🏿I hope this will have many more views and comments. A kind reminder that despite the broadcasted negatives, Jamaica is still great and will always produce and engender greatness! Keep up the good work.
🇯🇲 Thanks for sharing your discovery of such a valued gem among us. The viewing brought such nourishment to my new & first day of the year. I'm forever grateful for your invaluable investigative efforts into the neglected or difficult to access part of our culture. Blessed is your presence, a beautiful work of art & science assimulated 🇺🇦into us.
My respect and admiration for a brilliant Teacher and an excellent artist, Mr Clyde Clarke. Irina, another credit to you for highlighting another positive aspect of Jamaican culture.
I cook my dinner ready to eat but I said let me watch first now I am so full I don't want no dinner wow this is so inspiring big up Irena your videos are always good
Just how he's passionate while talking he teaches the same way. If you can't draw by the time he finishes with you , your an artist. So proud I was apart of this man's class
Best Art teacher ever. All my classes were full of vibe. He also gave the funnest jokes. Because of him I literally made thousands of dollars every year in school art competition with Scientific Research Council. Big up Mr Clark.
Mr Clarke!!! I went to Amy alternai high across the street from Cornwall college.. and the only time we were allowed to go over to the boys schools was to do after school art class with Mr Clarke! It was such a blessing. I knew I was in the presence of greatness 🥰🥰.
What a great way to start the new year. Thanks for sharing that video with the planet. He is a real Jamaican treasure, and he deserves all the accolades he has gotten so far. He probably wouldn't like me saying this about him, but I think he has mastered the 'science' of art. Happy New Year to all.
Mr. Clarke was one of my few mentors at Cornwall College. He inspired my creativity as a young teacher of English and Literacy. It was an extraordinary experience to have worked with him.
I think I met him when I was younger. I used to attend after school art programs at the Jamaica Institute Junior Center, and we were being taught papier mache.
He should publish a book about how he does is art. Millions of people would buy a book like that. I would buy anything he publish. Congratulations to him and one love. He should also put is art work on social media. He would obtain millions of followers and would earn $$$ from that. Thank you for bringing his work to the forefront.
Mr .Clarke was my senior at Mico College, then we ended up teaching at Denham Town secondary. From the get go he dedicated his time and great talent to teaching the children in his classes n the community at large there in west Kingston. Sooo much to say about this loving and giving brother.Bless you my brother.💝💝💝
Thank you Irina! This is another brilliant documentary. Mr Clyde Clark is one of the greatest influences on my life as a person and an educator. I was his student at St mary High school. He taught me painting, writing and sculpting. I was not the best art student but this man inspire me with his knowledge of politics and world affairs. I remember the day he left our school for Cornwall College. . This man is a genius. It was good to see him again. I hope on my next trip I get to see him again.
Reuse. Reduce. Recycle. Turning waste into ART. He is also a Calligrapher. What a classic! I hope Jamaica will try and save Mr.. Clarke's lesson plans and some of his work in the Institute of Jamaica for posterity. Thanks Irina, for another truly incredible and inspiring vlog. Jamaica is a special place with exceptional talent. 🙏🏿 One love ❤ 🇯🇲 🇨🇦
"Turning waste into Art" this is an awesome line!!! I'll see if I can use it for the title or thumbnail, I just love it! Thank you so much and thank you for sharing your feedback, much appreciated!
@@JAMAICAWITHIRIE thanks for responding to my post. Another thing that I would like to say about this wonderful vlog is this: People will realize how powerful they are when they think for ourselves. A lot of Jamaicans think for themselves but I do not know if they realize the power that they have. I believe this is what Mr. Clarke imparted to his students, hence, the ability for Cornwall College to produce so many gifted artists under his tutelage.
Art and artists are devalued worldwide and my guest is because of the notion that you can’t make a living from it. My kids love art and I try my best to nurture it. Love you work Irina!
This man has instil in me a great appreciation for the arts. I love discussing art work with people. It's so good to see him again. He has the same energy 🤗 And yes, I was encouraged to attend Mico teacher's college and my mom said, rt teachers don't make money. My son wanted to go to art school and I said, " go for it!" He has graduated and loving his job as a graphic art designer. So thank you Mr Clarke for the inspiration.
This is just amazing indeed, great body of work from that master Teacher, there’s a lot of UA-cam Jamaican Contant that I watch and do like but Irina your content stand out from the rest from the minute I saw your first video I fall in love and I keep watching and waiting for the next one happy New Year’s to you and your family God bless and continue to do what you do best.
First of all these are the people you should give national recognition to and yet still we never heard of him. This is what you call national treasure of our country , such a humble soul thanks again Irie love it 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Never thought I would be sitting here at 1am on New Year's Day watching a video about art because I"m not into art yet this is now my favorite of all your videos- This man is a Master's master. I'd love to take a class with him. I'd buy copies of his lesson plan books, they are special as is he. Bless him. I think I will go out and buy some paints tomorrow ;-) or maybe just playdough.
Wow Brilliant artist very talented am so proud to be a Jamaican big up to all original Jamaican we are so talented keep the good work up irienna you are doing Jamaica proud
Now my new favorite video from your channel. As a Jamaican born, American bred artist I would truly be honored to spend time in the company of this really gifted master art teacher! I also understand the desire/need to create even if I never sold a piece I would have to get up daily and just create at all times. Thank you for this video, Irina! It made my New Year Day! Wishing you & Mr. Clarke all the best in 2022!
This is amazing. I have never heard of him. He is such an awesome Jamaican treasure Such magnificence and such ingenuity. How come he is held from the world. His creativity and brilliance should be exposed. Thank you again for highlighting this humble innovative and prolific artist
Irina, thankyou for such an insightful and moving investigation of an artist who can, without any doubt, see life in the 4th dimension. Your exploration of Clyde and his myth in such a logical progression made it feel as though we were right there beside you. Your editing skill deserves recognition too! Thankyou for a wonderful start to the new year.
Mr. Clarke had a significant impact on my learning. I believed I could have been an artist after being taught by him, I am fascinated by the techniques that he used to develop our skills.
Clyde Clarke is clearly a brilliant artist. World class by any standard. May he continue to inspire and going forward have an even wider audience to absorb and appreciate his work.
Just watching this video brings back memories of him teaching me art at Cornwall College, he is the best I remember going to art competitions all over Jamaica with him winning so many competitions. Big up clarky best art teacher.
Ms Irene, I saw this post a while back but because of the length, I figured it was going to be very interesting and I didn’t want to watch it in patches. I now find the time and wasn’t disappointed. This guy is a prodigy (to use the word loosely). He’s a genius. I like the idea behind the interview too. I’m in love with it since I was an enthusiastic art student in school.
This is a beautiful video. All teachers are wonderful; however, teachers like Mr. Clarke are a gift from God, through which He speaks. Irina, you are a gifted teacher, presenter and journalist. -Oklahoma City, Oklahoma USA
A gifted teacher helps lead their students to discoveries within themselves they previously did not know exist, such as artistic expression. Mr Clarke is clearly a national treasure. His insight into levels of consciousness and that which we identify and connect with is spot on. The pureness of creative energy comes from it not being mitigated by intellect, he touched upon that and no doubt guided many of his students to understanding they too can harness their own creative flow. Thank you Irina so much for this video.
I thourougly enjoyed this interview and I am inspired to resume my earliest passion as a child.. My art teacher at Peter & Paul wrote on my last report card "Michael shows keen interest in this subject, he should be encouraged in this subject. "He is really good at it!" Even though I was awared a certificate at graduation for "ART", I was never encouraged by my mum. Guess she saw Art & Athletics as non paying professions. I still scribble now and then, but I will take it back up! Love you work Mr. Clarke! Blessings...
Great interview. Mr Clarke should have been my art teacher when I was at school. Then maybe I would have earned my living as a painter . I love the explaination for why the craft vendors, market the same items. I do try to support the local craft vendors and look for original pieces of art which sadly is so difficult to find. I found a lovely painting in Falmouth years ago reasonable priced, which sadly has never been replicated.
I was absolutely hypnotized by Mr. Clarke's talent and personality and I'm very happy to be in the position to share this documentary with the world!

This was a perfect start to the year for me. I have shared this and it’s such a beautiful presentation of art, genius and culture. Thank you Irie!

This man is Incredibly!
A God given talent, one of a kind GIFTED!!
Amazingly extraordinary artwork. So talented.
And original.
This artist is amazing..
And genteely unofficious- my original words.
“Teaching is assisting discovery.” I love this statement, and will be using it in my next professional development workshop.
I absolutely LOVED that statement as well.
Carry it forward my sister, blessings and more life!!
Have no idea we have such brilliant people doing this in jamaica 👏🙌
This is beautiful and priceless... I must share with my Edna Manley college friends 💯🙌🏼
Reuse. Reduce.
Another thing that I would like to say about this wonderful vlog is this:
People will realize how powerful they are when they think for ourselves. A lot of Jamaicans think for themselves but I do not know if they realize the power that they have.
I believe this is what Mr. Clarke imparted to his students, hence, the ability for Cornwall College to produce so many gifted artists under his tutelage.
This man reminds me of Bunny Wailer. He is the visual art version of him.
This is so good. I want to buy some of these art.
Big up Mr. Clarke, one of the great teachers of Cornwall College. One Wall 🙏🙏🙏
I love the idea of embracing art as n everyday way of life!
Art and artists are devalued worldwide and my guest is because of the notion that you can’t make a living from it. My kids love art and I try my best to nurture it. Love you work Irina!
Well said. Balance is key in the development of the total human being. Left n right side of the mind.
Wow what a Genius of a People us Jamaicans are...
Irena Nuff respect for this highlight.
This man has instil in me a great appreciation for the arts. I love discussing art work with people. It's so good to see him again. He has the same energy 🤗
And yes, I was encouraged to attend Mico teacher's college and my mom said, rt teachers don't make money.
Irie you did again, his creations are indeed masterful thanks for exposing another aspect of Jamaica
His talents, work, dedication is worthy of a museum of Art
First of all these are the people you should give national recognition to and yet still we never heard of him. This is what you call national treasure of our country , such a humble soul thanks again Irie love it 👏👏👏👏👍👍👍
Never thought I would be sitting here at 1am on New Year's Day watching a video about art because I"m not into art yet this is now my favorite of all your videos- This man is a Master's master. I'd love to take a class with him. I'd buy copies of his lesson plan books, they are special as is he. Bless him. I think I will go out and buy some paints tomorrow ;-) or maybe just playdough.
I bought playdough and playing with it now 😆Mr. Clarke's passion for Art is contagious :)
Listening to Mr Clark brought back so much great memories. We need a teacher like Clarke for the last class of every day to blow all the stress away.
This is amazing. I have never heard of him. He is such an awesome Jamaican treasure Such magnificence and such ingenuity. How come he is held from the world. His creativity and brilliance should be exposed. Thank you again for highlighting this humble innovative and prolific artist
Love my people and there's none like us.
He is a NATIONAL TREASURE.
Love his Art always and I own a couple pieces.
God bless him.
California 💛
Irina, thankyou for such an insightful and moving investigation of an artist who can, without any doubt, see life in the 4th dimension. Your exploration of Clyde and his myth in such a logical progression made it feel as though we were right there beside you. Your editing skill deserves recognition too! Thankyou for a wonderful start to the new year.
Mr. Clarke had a significant impact on my learning.
I believed I could have been an artist after being taught by him, I am fascinated by the techniques that he used to develop our skills.
Real talk! As the man said ' discovery of one's self '
An absolute gem.
My batchmate at Mico Teachers College ,and coworker at Denham Town High. A genius 👏.
What an inspiring gentleman, thank you Irina for spotlighting this Artist to us all 🤩
I am an educator and I was mesmerized by Mr. Clarke’s commitment to his craft; I would love to co-teach visual analysis with him. I would love to me.
" I want to know how him get the light and dark fi blend." 👏🏾😊 I needed to see this today. So inspiring
His skills should be used throughout 🇯🇲. He is a genius and his skills used by Education Ministry 👏👌🙏
Big up to the Cornwall College massive . Mr.Clarke ! 🙌🏽🔥🔥

This man is a Jamaican treasure. Thanks Irie for introducing this man to us. This was a great interview I did enjoy it
👏🏿 great work as usual highlighting what a great country Jamaica is. Think the Jamaica Tourist Board should collaborate with you.
They did collaborate in the 90's. I'm not sure if they still do. We won plenty of awards because of his great visual aspects of art..
I thourougly enjoyed this interview and I am inspired to resume my earliest passion as a child..
My art teacher at Peter & Paul wrote on my last report card "Michael shows keen interest in this subject, he should be encouraged in this subject. "He is really good at it!"
Even though I was awared a certificate at graduation for "ART", I was never encouraged by my mum. Guess she saw Art & Athletics as non paying professions.
I still scribble now and then, but I will take it back up!
Love you work Mr. Clarke! Blessings...

Mr Clarke was always one of my favourite teachers back in the. Its great to see him still doing what he does best! 👍
I swear this woman makes me feel like am not Jamaican,,, she teaching me my own heritage and the history of my country
I like your reply. I wonder if more Jamaicans, really educate themselves about this beautiful Island, our views and our behaviour might change
