I ran into Mike one year at Clifftop, he camped near me. I was treated to his superb guitar and banjo playing. At the end of the day Mike is one of the very best around. A wonderful musician. His posts are wonderful. Bill
Hello, neighbor! I remember you showed Art and me how to rough up the smooth edges of Elk River Blues. Hope to get back to Clifftop again... maybe 2016 at this point.
I thought that sounded familiar..but yet different. This is really a great sounding tune..and you have done an excellent job!! I love listening to you.I need to do it more often.
SOunds great .I love the in and out of this tune .Nice set up on the Dobson as well . The bridge looks interesting .Is it one of Bill Rickard's ? All the best from Connecticut ..
I know you're a Dobson fan, Guy. I sure like this banjo. Other setup details include a Kat Eyz "spice" bridge and a Fielding tailpiece. Light strings (0.009) and a stuffed head, by the way.
OK, I will ask… WHAT is the tuning?? I have tried and come up with very strange things, scary things! ;-) Help me, Michael, please. Lovely Dobson!! So amazing that one little added half torus of metal should sound so good, esp when invented for a totally different reason. Wow.
Brewer E The tuning is gEADE, which is known by some as Sandy River Belle tuning and by others as Cumberland Gap tuning. Adam Hurt makes great use of this tuning - I learned the tune from Adam.
So, you switched to the index finger. Doesn't it feel weird? I wasn't sold on the Dobson ring but your setup really shows us what the big deal is all about. I'd be interested in hearing something that really drives it. Has the Chuck Lee Ovilla moved on?
Very weird at first, so I gave up. However, it's more about what is enabled with the index that is not (for me) with the middle. The tone I was looking for is supported by playing off the right side of the nail. Very awkward with the middle, but doable with the index. So, I quit giving up and after several days of ritual practice my brain changed... or something, and it works! Re: Dobson, you will never win a decibel fight against a Tu-ba-phone, but you will hear a beautiful sound!

So mesmerizing to watch that drop thumb.
Why does your thumbnail nót hook the above-lying string all the time while dropthumbing ? (Mine does ..😢)
Your = his .
Como siempre, Hermosa interpretación!!!, big hug from Argentina, José Luis.
Wow, great banjo and great tune. Thanks for sharing this man.

Hi Cathy - thanks for the kind words. Adam's arrangement is brilliant. I'm glad we can share music and our love of banjos here.
I love this. Is this the same tune as Flannerys Dream as they sound very similar. Thanks for all the great music - inspirational
Very nice Michael !
Just love this. Can you share the tuning?
Amazing song, does anyone know where I could go to learn this?
I learned it directly from Adam via Skype.
You sound amazing, I will try to learn it by ear
Lovely job Michael. Do you care to share your tuning?
Thanks Scott. Adam calls this Sandy River Belle tuning: gEADE.
Michael Neverisky Thanks so much. I'm going to enjoy working on this one.

Michael Neverisky ... almost there. Man... there's a lot of remote pull-offs in this one! A fun challenge.
Indeed the are, Scott! Looking forward to hearing your version.

This is clawhammer style, correct?
Yes, clawhammer banjo, and in the style of Adam Hurt.
+Michael Neverisky thank you! I'm going to start learning to play soon!
