I loved the tip about not just saying 'link in bio'. As a lazy person, the moment I see that is the moment I'm moving on because that vague-ness always feels a little scammy in the way that MLM people say 'PM me for details!' rather than give those details out freely. Info presented easily and upfront definitely encourages me to make a purchase if I'm truly interested.
I love your vids they motivate me to keep going, I’m working on 3 blankets and 2 cardigans using your pattern and I have been so tired but watching your videos make me actually want to crochet and really enjoy the process! I’m only 11 but I have been crocheting since I was 9 and watching you made me want to start. I love your work keep it up! 💖🎀✨😊
Can I just say that I admire you so much for starting your own business at 18 years old?! I`m like 10 years older than you and I get nervous thinking about selling some small items at christmas markets and such 😬 Props to you for wanting to help others and share your experience 😁
My mom and I own a small storefront where we rent out spaces to crafters, we’re still growing since we only opened in April of last year and we’re in a smallish town. But I really recommend finding local consignment shops around your area and selling at them! Craft shows are another great option as well to get your name out there!
"i price by vibes" such a mood 😂 i literally crocheted a bunch of oreos and asked my friend $2 each seems right, right?😂 these crochet pickles feel like they should be $6.
I just discovered you a week ago, and now I am hooked from watching you here in YT. I am ready to start a cardigan with a hoodie and also a bucket hat-I already bought the yarn from Joann’s and from Michael’s. I am 71 years old and have been crocheting on and off for about 20 years. I love you ❤ and admire you very much. You are very talented, and you are a great teacher! I am a teacher, too (I teach English as a second language). You are like the granddaughter that I wish my granddaughter would be 😂 On a side note… I have heard you say that your knees crack all the time you bend them… and also heard them one day when you were shopping for yarn! My knees too ALWAYS cracked that way since I was younger than you. It never really bothered me all those years, but since 10-15 years ago, it was discovered that I have osteoarthritis on both my knees!!! 😵💫 Now, at 71 I have to walk with a cane, or a walker, or be pushed on a wheelchair (for longer walks). All the cartilage between the knee bones is basically gone, so I walk “bone-on-bone”! 😵💫 I might have to have knee surgery-but I don’t really want to do that. My advice to you is: check with your doctor to see what you can do now to prevent that to happen to you. As my granddaughter-like person 🥹 I wish you the best now and always, so that when you’re 70 you can still walk without any problems.
So helpful! Thank you! Selling my crochet is my goal for the Year of the Dragon, this is the first video that makes me feel like I can actually really totally do it! 🖤
Love all the advice! I’m not sure if I could ever go full time, but I’m definitely going to start posting what I’m making. That way, even if I don’t sell anything, I can look back at my projects and maybe make some more craft oriented friends 😊
I love how you constantly have to say not sponsored. Thank you so much for this excellent guide to starting. I’ve been considering this for a bit and you gave me a very good foundation.
I don’t think I’m a good enough crocheter to start up my own business, but it was very interesting hearing how you got started. Thank you for sharing! 🤗
This was crazy helpful! I've been on the fence about starting my own business for crochet and was struggling to find someone just willing to answer questions honestly as well as thoroughly! Thank you so much for this, you are an inspiration!
If someone says your stuff is too expensive. Remind them that it is homemade & made with love. That usually gets people to stop & think a lil, at least in person like at markets
this was so helpful!! I'm in the process of starting a clothing and accessories brand and to hear your process from day 1 in such a calm tone it really makes it all seem less daunting 😂 so thank you!! from one kelsey(ie) to another ❤😂
You should be very proud of yourself! Good job! I have no desire to start a shop but I'm just interested in how you did it. I'm so impressed. Congratulations on a job well done.
I must tell you, saw you once, fast forward now I look for your posts, today's is very helpfull, I would say a reminder to have common sense and have a system. Thank you 🎉
Thank you for sharing. I felt like it was a refreshing video. I used to have a small etsy shop and I stopped after a while. Now that I have time and the space. I'm going to start my shop again 😊
It's crazy how you made this video and it's all that's been on my mind. I was starting a channel but I didn't really know how I wanted to go about it and then I turned around and lost all my precious belongs. That hit me hard but I refused to let it get to me, later I got my Facebook & Instagram hacked and then I was like okay life wants to kick my ass. During the Christmas Holiday I decided to buy a crochet kit and now I plan on trying to see if I can start my own Crochet Business within 1 year so that is my ultimate goal for 2024. Hopefully By 2025 I'll have a collection of things to open up a Crochet Business at the beginning of 2025! Right now I spend each day just strategizing how I plan on setting it all up. So with that being said, let's hop into this video, Thank You so much again & just never stop doing what you love especially if you made it into a resource like a sustainable living income!!!
Thanks for the tips and sharing your journey. It is my dream to crochet for a living. Something I would like to hear is how you deal with the scammers and sketchy people contacting you about your work.
You are such a lovely person for taking on the role of mentor to so many people with encouragement and great advice, and you are a strong woman who deserves great admiration for uplifting others! 😊
Thank you Kelsie. Really great information. I've just downloaded photo room and it's brilliant. I have just started uploading to tik tok and getting good views. I'm planning on opening an online shop soon as I do markets and people are always asking where to buy my wearables. It's harder in the UK, lots of rules and regulations. Thank you again and well done on your business
Thank you so very much!!!! I’m a young crocheter that has just found a love in crochet a few months ago and want to sell some things!!! I still trying to convince my parents that crochet tops and sweaters aren’t stupid and wasteful lol ! And like I’m not even talking crop tops I’m talking full lankth shirts !!! Anyway ! Thank you again I think I am gonna start a Etsy soon !
your videos are very helpful and motivating! i am 13 and i have been crocheting for about 1ish years and i have an easy shop which has been running for about 2 years and i only got 2 sales in that time line, which as been kinda sad for me but i have been recently trying to improve my shop and trying to grow on my social media. this vid gave me a lot of inspo and ideas. u are a really amazing crocheter and i love your vids! thx for always coming out with new vids and tutorials we all love u Kelsie!!!!
@PassoKnit Kelsie Thank you so much for sharing valuable information for us all! I started a website on godaddy, but the fees are outrageous for someone starting out. I finally just gave up. Your information gives me hope that I can do this and, at the young age of 58 and still working as a full-time nurse, I'd begun to give up on my dream of my own business. Thank you for such basic yet valuable information!!! ❤
This was AWESOME. I'm going to make a very similar video soon, I'm a knitter business owner and I would like to share my advice. Thanks for the video!!
I love how you can just look at the camera while your talking and not look down at what your crocheting. Expert crocheting I must say. It takes me day to crochet a small purse and I hold onto the yarn like I am a nervous wreck...lol
Watching you crochet without looking at your hands blows my mind😂 I have been crocheting since I was 13 and I still need to look down more frequently. Thank you for the tips! Do you prefer your Shopify website over Etsy?
Just to add, I got my label printer off Amazon for $80 (and it comes with 100 labels for free). I also got a kitchen scale on Amazon for under $10. I buy my labels off Etsy for a discounted rate, and have usps come pick the package up. There are cheap options! I did invest a big chuck of money into yarn at first, but now I mainly just use profit from sales to fund the yarn needed.
This was very helpful. I have been an online histiry/social studies teacher for 10 years. For 6 years I have taught independently on the Outschool Platform. I added knitting 4 years ago and crochet 2 years ago. I have been considering expanding my business and offering classes to adults which means I have to move from Outschool These are live online classes. I also want to offer patterns and sale things I make. I know there is a lot there. This video was really helpful. Thank you.
I definitely needed this when I started 😅 I’ve figured out most stuff but it would’ve been really helpful lol. I’m glad you talked about what to do when you’re not getting sales because I’ve been feeling pretty discouraged but now I know I can just use this opportunity to be creative 😊
Thank you so much! I just recently started my own crochet business with my mom & stumbled upon your instagram. I love your posts & videos. This one helped so much. Thank you! I hope to be as successful as you someday!!
My biggest question about crocheting was pricing. Thanks so much for clearing it up. There have been times where I have been told that my pricing is too high.
really helpful 👍🏻 i really like the way you say 'don't lower the prices to appease a customer ' and i have ask you about the market experience at the UA-cam live yesterday , i'm a little bit curious the details about it ☺️ Also I really like your vlog video ! I see it when i'm crocheting ! Thank you for filming it 💗
Thank you so much for this!! ❤🧶 Also just learned later in the video you were in color guard!! That's so awesome! I did color guard and winter guard for such a long time. Cool to see others mention it 😊🩷
I found your account thru UA-cam recommendations a few weeks ago. I'm 27, and have been crocheting for about 13-14 years I think, but haven't done it in 2 years since I had my son. I just picked it back up, found you, and I'm hooked again (pun intended) 😂 but you said colorguard and I was like 😲! That's why I love your vibe!!!! 🤣 I did colorguard too!!!!!🏳🏴❤
This couldn't have come at a better time for me. I just got the courage to open an Etsy shop and I'm getting ready to take photos and start advertising! I was unsure if I should open a dedicated profile, so thank you for clarifying that for me :')
My family also says I should sell my stuff but there’s a few issues with that. A big one is I’m not 18 yet, so I can’t do it independently like you were talking about. The idea of having a website sounds so nice, but online shipping scares me too. Farmers markets seem something I’d be more successful at, but I feel like people wouldn’t have much interest in buying from a high schooler 🤷♀️ maybe one day I’ll get to sell my work but for now I just make things and shove it in my closet 😂
I want to start a crochet business just for fun, but I’ve been debating an Etsy account versus a website. I appreciate hearing your opinion/experience.
I know u covered a bunch of questions... but I have one more. How do you make a sizing chart for a online shop? I always had trouble figuring that out.. love ur content btw!!!!
Congratulations on you starting your own business at such a very young age. You have definitely inspired me. And by the way, I like your Granny Squares Sweatshirt that You're wearing in this video.
Absolutely thrilled to see this video! I remember commenting on your last one, eagerly waiting for exactly this content. It's like you read my mind. 😄🙌
Ahh new video yay! I was having a bad day (im from another country and its 1 am for me now) from having a fight with my bf... but im glad to see a new video posted! Your new video cheered me up! Thank you ❤ love you soo much 🫶🏻
There are also legal requirements for set up of you business depending on your state there could be tax collection and reporting. Shipping labels are cheaper through a platofrm becasue of the contract the platform has with the shipper
I have a crochet business, I’m very new, I’ve only sold a few things and it was to friends 😂 I don’t get much traffic yet, but I have all the socials and stuff just trying to find a good way to make more sales lol
Love the tips thanks so much! Especially putting the link right in the post vs “link in bio”. I just finally got a few links set up in there. I just never thought you could click it (maybe unless on computer) cause most people are on their phones and it isnt clickable when its just in the post. ❤
I would love if you did a video about starting a crochet UA-cam as well! I've made a few videos but I feel like I don't really know how to start, how to edit, a decent camera to use, etc.
Remember to research your local Restrictions for taxing, income, packaging ect. In Germany you Need to apply for a buisness and a packaging liscence for example otherwhise you can get fined realy heavily so research for your county specificly!
I just want to comment a little clarification for people on the Etsy fee's- expect about 20% of the price to be taken out. I.e. if you sell an item for 10 dollars, you will get about 8. Make sure you aren't selling at a loss there, often you will upsell on etsy vs if it was a natural sale to someone you know. ALSO make sure if you do free shipping you increase the price to coverthat, i recommend not doing free shipping initially so you can tell how much shipping costs. Weigh your stuff/packaging :)
I just rewatched this video again today because I am looking to start a craft business with my hubby. I crochet currently. I say currently because my passion is craft sewing and quilting, although I also love to crochet. I do, or at present, did, other crafts like sublimation, paper quilling and scrapbooking/card making. I had spinal surgery in my neck last year and it limited my abilities which was supposed to be just for a while and just as I started to get to a point where I could see myself sewing again, I got rear ended in a car accident and it set me back to the beginning (albeit actually worse than the beginning because it has also now limited my ability to crochet). I am holding out hope to get back to my other passions as well. My hubby has a laser cutter, 3-D printer and Resin printer so there are bunches of stuff he can do and make also. Anywho, long story short (too late) I have a question about shipping. How do you know what to charge for shipping when an order is placed. I get the process of actually calculating the shipping and printing the label and such; but how and when are you able to let the purchaser know what the amount for shipping is? If for instance they live in another state and they order a combination of items that you have never shipped together before. Is that something you have to let them know afterwards or is it a preset in your website? Do you have estimated weights on each product and have those loaded to your website and based on that and the zip code they enter is it calculated by the website? Or do you pick an amount for all shipped orders up to a certain weight and size? I am just kind of baffled on how that part of it works because I know that it cost different amounts for the same weight and size based on where a package is being sent. Also do you do international sales? If you do, how does that work? Ok I will stop babbling now lol. I love your channel it keeps me motivated.
Yes each item on the website has a weight on it and the shipping cost is calculated at check out. Or you can have a pre set amount like a flat fee that everyone pays. After checkout you enter the final package weight and pay the difference
@@PassioKnitKelsie thank you so much!! That part has been weighing (no pun intended) on my mind! Thank you!! You rock!! Have a great rest of your day!! 😁
i recently just went to a pop up sale and was able to sell my first item! i wouldn't have the confidence or motivation to continue without you. your videos genuinely have such a positive impact on me so thank you for sharing helpful tips and advice for us that are newer to crochet 🫶
I loved watching this video. Watching you crochet is so satisfying. Also, have you ever thought about dying your own yarn? I have always wanted to do that. I've recently loved crochet summer tops.
love this video thank you so much for the info. I love kpop obvi... Could you do a video where you recreate crochet things that kpop idols have worn??? just curious ❤❤ 🙏 🙏 🙏
Thank you Kelsie for this video. I have heard you speak of burn out. How do you get past that? That is my biggest fear of starting a small business online. Love your channel. ❤
Been watching your you-tube videos for awhile now & was wondering how you factor in the shipping costs into your sales. Do you calculate the shipping when advertising the items so customers know how much they'll be paying on top of the cost of the item. I think this is important especially for overseas sales, where postage is expensive. Love your you tubes, your attitude to your business and your merchendise, etc, etc.
Hi Kel i lobe ur vids really hoping for u to post a yarn shopping blog its pretty much been a while so pls do a yarn shopping vlog next ty, ur answers for q n a r really good now i was thinking about selling some small things at my aunt shop :))
yeaaa i price based on vibes too, because it's really hard for me to crochet for a hour or two without distractions. I also work on my commissions in public transport and during class breaks so it's pretty hard it price. what I do now is that i time myself crocheting 5-6 rows at a normal time, then i time myself when i weave in ends (or like half of them), sewing etc and i multiply. i like to pay myself a flat 20$ an hour without counting yarn (unless it's an expensive yarn or the client requested something expensive) because i thrift a lot of yarn too. that said, 20$ is not really that much because i don't charge for the 3-8h it takes me to take pics, tiktoks, editing, postnig everywhere etc. i make really cool clown hats and i choose to create a full look to advertise my hats. that means an hour + of makeup, lots of filming... but the amusement i get out of it makes it worth it. i believe that eventually it'll pay off lol
I loved the tip about not just saying 'link in bio'. As a lazy person, the moment I see that is the moment I'm moving on because that vague-ness always feels a little scammy in the way that MLM people say 'PM me for details!' rather than give those details out freely. I’m only 11 but I have been crocheting since I was 9 and watching you made me want to start. I love your work keep it up! 💖🎀✨😊
Clever girl! Keep it up! My grandkids are your age, I'm teaching them! 👏👏👏
Keep up the work! I also started when I was about 9 but sadly I stopped until I was 18
I also started when I was 9
I’m 12 and I was into crocheting since I was 8
Go girly go!!! You've got this!!!

And scarcely look down at the crochet project! 😂

Your videos are literally getting me through a mosaic crochet baby blanket I've been working on for nearly a week. The end is thankfully in sight.
The most informative video I have seen about starting own craft businesses. Thank you.
Thank you for sharing. I felt like it was a refreshing video. I used to have a small etsy shop and I stopped after a while. Now that I have time and the space. I'm going to start my shop again 😊

My biggest question about crocheting was pricing. Thanks so much for clearing it up. There have been times where I have been told that my pricing is too high.
really helpful 👍🏻 i really like the way you say 'don't lower the prices to appease a customer '

This great because I’m the processes of retiring rom a business & looking at selling my crochet items because I love doing it
I want to start a crochet business just for fun, but I’ve been debating an Etsy account versus a website. I appreciate hearing your opinion/experience.
Thanks so much for the insight! I have a new crochet business and this information is helpful and validating ❤
Thanks Kelsey this was very helpful since I’ve wondered about all these questions many times.
Yasss, a fully informative video. I am going to start an etsy and start listing the items I've made so far
Absolutely loved this video. Now we need a Q&A of you and your boyfriend ❤
This was very helpful! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and giving such good advice!! Congratulations on your success!
This is great! I've made a ton of scrunchies and I'm just going to sell them to friends and family, so I'm not going to go crazy, but this is helpful!
Absolutely thrilled to see this video! I remember commenting on your last one, eagerly waiting for exactly this content. It's like you read my mind. 😄🙌
WOW, what a motivation to have a business.
THIS WAS LITERALLY SO HELPFUL! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR MAKING THIS VIDEO!!! :)
Ahh new video yay! I was having a bad day (im from another country and its 1 am for me now) from having a fight with my bf... but im glad to see a new video posted! Your new video cheered me up! Thank you ❤ love you soo much 🫶🏻
Please do another video answering more questions: what the project I wanna sell took me about like 3 days or more or even weeks
Thank you Kelsie This is very helpful and I started crocheting since I was 8
😮
Very helpful video but I will admit I was watching your doggos most of the time 😂❤they're adorable
You inspire me! I started my instagram page and I am feeling like I’m actually making way to making money with my crafts! Thank you ❤
Hi I love your videos !!! Could you make a video of the entire process of shipping and printing the orders
I would love if you did a video about starting a crochet UA-cam as well! I've made a few videos but I feel like I don't really know how to start, how to edit, a decent camera to use, etc.
I would like to learn more about the taxes aspect. You are inspiring by the way
Remember to research your local Restrictions for taxing, income, packaging ect.

I loved watching this video. Watching you crochet is so satisfying. Also, have you ever thought about dying your own yarn? I have always wanted to do that. I've recently loved crochet summer tops.

Im amazed on how she can crochet without even looking at it 😮
Hi Kel i lobe ur vids really hoping for u to post a yarn shopping blog its pretty much been a while so pls do a yarn shopping vlog next ty, ur answers for q n a r really good now i was thinking about selling some small things at my aunt shop :))
yeaaa i price based on vibes too, because it's really hard for me to crochet for a hour or two without distractions.
Excellent information. Thank you!
Do you recommend a small business license/LLC? Also do you recommend getting insurance for your business?
Loved the video! Lots of great information..
