Honestly, the "dont share your goals before exicuting" is TOO REAL. tbh it's probably best not to tell a lot of ppl just in case someone steals your ideas.

In my experience, talking about the business to others creates way more chances for connections and advancement for the business. This outweighs the risk of getting ideas stolen, but definitely that risk exists, yes. Ideas are cheap, execution is difficult. Then don't share the execution if worried.

Sharing with 1-2 close ppl is generally ok. I’m glad you touched on this topic. Iv only told two ppl for my small business endeavor. Still haven’t revealed the name to them,as I get the legal stuff secured.

This applies to creating, marketing, etc. each personal failure is essential. Having the motivation to overcome failure is priceless & only learned through action. So happy someone said this bc I’ve watched countless videos and rarely have I heard “just do it”

I also love that you were very open about your inconsistent motivation despite the number of followers you have. It's easy to assume that people like you who are ahead of the average people have it all figured out. But hearing that consistency is still the key that will drive your business to success is reassuring, especially for someone like me who's somewhat starting from scratch again.

With a toddler though, and another baby on the way, I am sure it won’t come to fruition for at least another year.
I really enjoyed this video, and it was very helpful! The tip about setting a hard deadline is perfect for me. I have always procrastinated for schoolwork, and sometimes for a business it can be the same way. Deadlines help light a fire under my butt and get me actually doing what I need to do.

I've been a content creator in the doll collecting niche for 7 years. A popular business venture many people in my niche get into is sewing doll clothing (trendier and more mature pieces than what you can find in stores). I got into sewing over the pandemic and started an etsy shop. I went on a hiatus because I was too stressed about every tiny detail of my products but I've recently restarted my shop. I agree that having a UA-cam channel helps you connect with your consumer much more than Instagram does, but sharing my photography on my instagram allows me to showcase my products more. I chose Etsy to sell on because despite the fees, it is the dominant marketplace for my niche, and my audience is already familiar with it. So many small business videos I see on UA-cam are for sticker shops. I'm so impressed at how artistically talented everyone is and how many orders they pack! But as someone in a niche where every product is handmade and can't be outsourced, it's a lot more tedious and demanding to run a shop. 600$ is amazing for your first release! Keep up the good work!

This is a bit of a relief I must say! And you’re absolutely spot on, on some points. I’ve started my online business in late October this year and was hoping I’d have atleast a couple of sales by now, but no…. Zero! I’m a fashion designer, got my own website and marketing my self on instagram. The main issue that I’ve done is mainly get into the slow fashion luxury business. Sounds great. But sadly creativity doesn’t sell, if the price is too high! it’s always been a dream of mine to sell high quality garments, which my products are. It simply won’t sell! No matter how appealing it is to people. And because of the nature of the fabrics that I buy, I simply can’t just drop my prices. If I’d start all over again. I’d probably buy less affordable materials and go from there, cuz although I’ve just started out. You need a really good budget for runways, popups, marketing in order to sell yourself as a luxury brand. And as someone who’s starting out and already spent way too much on products and materials. It’s very difficult….

Hi! Thanks for this video, it was so refreshing! I also run a small business (handcrafted jewelry) and I loved the perspective you have on posting on social media! I'm so tired of listening that you "have to be creative" when you don't know what to post (what an useless advice...it doesn't even help). I'm so tired of people saying that you have to follow marketing/social media classes if you want your business to work. I'm so tired of following so called "rules" that don't even work. So thank you very much for your advices promoting experience and experimentation, but also consistency. I 100% agree that the best way to learn and progress is to try consistently until you find your style and you own way. And thank you for sharing this wisefull and calm video with us! Have a good day!

Just found your channel. This video is super helpful for someone only a few months into their journey. The content creation calendar really resonated with me. I’ve know that I should be creating like that but struggle to keep on track , thank you for the reminder! I wish good success on your business and creation journey! It’s a hard one but can be very rewarding!

This is how a true business start. I always say that when people want to start a business, it is worth it to spend a lot of time in early stage’s preparation. However, only those who really start will know the truth.

The one where you said that keeping your goals to yourself until results are in is good. As someone who is quite open about her plans, it did throw me at a loop when my plans don't go my way cause some people are expecting way too much. 🤭
A friend even went so far as to say to just come back to the city and he'll help me get a job in the company he's working for. 🤣That was thoughtful of him but quite unwanted, really. 😅

Hey, thanks for inspiring me. I'm a small biz owner in fashion industry from indonesia and.. i got triggered by your statement when it comes to a deadline and you need to start to sell your product immediately even though the product that you had are not in a huge amount because you need to back to reality (and yes, you need some income ASAP to turnback the revenue of your business and brand).. so, your statement is slapped me hard because i'm super perfectionist about the selling point and i will start to sell the products when it's already in a huge amount or let say the product are officially ready.. so now i do realize that.. selling is not always about quantity, but it's about ready or not ready.
**btw pardon for my english ❤

Thank you so very much for such a great video. 😅 I'll admit I'm much older but 3 years ago I was on the verge of my own shop. Due to separation from my husband December '21 I will just say it's been a wild ride. You've given me hope that even at 41 with only a GED and a positive attitude I still got this. I'm going to try again. I was much more prepared before but I believe in myself. Thank you so very much again 😢😊😅💕 sorry but I've been very hard on myself the past couple of years. You're amazing 👏😊 Have a wonderful weekend

This is very helpful. I have a sticker shop and I always struggle with consistency. It’s hard to balance my daytime work and my small business. I’m always tired after work that’s why I don’t have the energy to pickup a pen and draw. But I’ll do my best to stay consistent and manage my time efficiently.

I do disagree with the "don't share your..." part, because sharing and getting feedback often is an essential part of building a business, feedback is sooo important early on! Glad it worked for you without, but for most, getting feedback as early as possible might be the better choice, imho

I like your business. A few ideas for you would be have you thought about manufacturing toys like a fluffy toy rabbit or duck would be cool. Children would love that and writing a story, a story with your animals for children would be cool also. Your branding is strong and your attitude is cool. Thanks.

Hey Johanna! Thank you so much for explaining this & it makes so much more sense now. My question I have is should I create a separate bank account when having a small business? I’ve been debating about this for a while now only because of the financial responsibilities that comes with owning a small shop itself. You’re recommendation will definitely help me! Thanks!

    • @Jaeus360
      @Jaeus360 Рік тому

I had that question too (and still trying to see which is best) - You should look into a Sole Proprietor or an LLC. If you want to have a big business down the road and a lot more products and potentially hiring people, it would be good to have an actual BUSINESS bank account for growth. But for starters and if it's just you then you can actually just open a separate checking account to your existing account and strictly use that just for business expenses.
