Are soccer cleats becoming too trendy? Also, are the trends they're following the right direction for the future of soccer cleats? What's your opinion?
Soccer Reviews For You i wish they would make a new line of leather ag cleats. There isn't a lot of artificial grass leather boots, i feel like football is exclusively going to be played on turf and ag. Natural grass seems to be going away
Soccer Reviews For You I think it is better looking but it doesn’t up your ability and it is less comfortable like the low cuts and the mid cuts it looks better but does nothing to help and charge extra
Something that bothers me, because of my color preference, is that it seems whenever a cleat is coming out in a white or black (simple color way) it is some type of special edition boot that is more expensive or impossible for the average consumer to get their hands on. colors to me are bit over the top these days
The sock does not help with performance, but as a player who almost always plays on turf, it helps to keep the rubber out of my boots. It’s not a big deal, but it does get annoying
Another great video Josh . Your honesty and opinions are the most accurate and dependable. You are king of these soccer reviews. You deserve more fame, it would be great if Adidas or Nike hire you for designs and ideas ! Happy holidays. "stay thirsty my friend"
The point about durability is so true because when I was a kid and younger teen my boots would last 2 seasons and after my 2015 F-50s stopped fitting my vapor X ripped after half a year and my current Legend 6s only lasted a year before I had sole separation
Jonathan Rodriguez try a mizuno Boot especially the made in Japans. The Morelia is mich better than a Copa and tue durability is the same. I have the diadora brasil they are awesome, too
+Sebastian Scholz for me nothing beats the Copa, I have the Diadora Brazil OG mixed sole but for me the Copa Mundial will always be the best. I do very much want to try the Morelia II MIJ and Rebula MIJ
Jonathan Rodriguez i have 6 morelias mij. They are tighter and much lighter then the copas. They cost only 300 outside Japan. In Japan you pay only 150€ for a Mij Morelia. I paid 144€ for the Wave ignitus 4 Mij taxes and shipping included.
+Sebastian Scholz see I do not have the money for that xD but I manage to find the Copa Mundials always for less than 100usd. Weight does not bother me at all and, if you buy Copa Mundials small enough, they will fit tightly. I customize some of mine to make mixed sole variations
I heard Puma is making a laceless boot in 2018 and Nike is replacing the magista line with something similar to the purespeed from adidas. Like it has a cover for the laces, if that makes sense.
I believe you inasmuch that you know what you are saying. Leather shoes are becoming more luxurious and more towards professional players, which is not cool because we as the consumers should get the same shoes as what the pros wear. Also I love how you beautifully express your own opinion without getting people mad. I feel soccer/football cleats should be less expensive and have more to offer. I understand that money buys everything but if you don't have the money don't buy it. Keep on doing what you do. Merry Christmas bro
What bothers me is that current marketing makes kids think leather is a bad material, when it is the best, and everything is becoming midcut when it ruins the look of some boots, like the Preds Also a trend I dislike that you did not mention is that every brand has to innovate every line. Silos stray so far away from what made them great. Take the new Ace.. I mean Predator for example. Honestly some boots were near perfect for me, the Adidas Predator Powerswerve, Nike Ronaldinho Dois, Nike Mercurial Vapor VIII, Adidas 11pro 3. Like the Adidas Copa Mundial and Puma King Top di, some boots should remain classics. I know plenty of people who would still buy the boots I mentioned, or others if they were offered as general releases
Change for the sake of change is something that has always and will always exist. That doesn't just go for soccer cleats either. Everyone will have their favorites from model to model, but they have to continue with releasing new products in order to maintain relevance. I get the "if it's not broken, don't fix it" mentality, but new products drive sales for these big brands.
+Soccer Reviews For You ya, and I understand why it happens but I just do not agree with it. Just a shame to see boots like the Predators, T90s, F50s and others go because of change-for-the-sake-of-change only
I bought a pair of copa 18.3s and nobody at my club had em except my dad and some older guys and after i bought em a more ppl started buying and wearing them
Some shoes should come with a collar, but there should always be an option for a low cut variation, a (Poor) example is the Nike mercurial superfly/vapour. The same thing should be done with leather boots, there should be an option to get boots like phantom visions or X’s in a leather variation for a similar price (I can understand slight price increase due to the cost of materials)
I like mid cut boots more than the low ones, that I also tried. They look better for me and I also like how the collar fits and feels. I think there is market for both low and mid boots
I have a good reason to like the sock on cleats. Number 1: all my fields are turf so the sock keeps the pellets out Number 2: they hold your heel from sliding up the back of you’re cleat.
Can i get some feedback please! So in my experience! I have worn Nike Hypervenom Phantom 3 and the 2nd takedown model and with the $80 version it lasted longer! Anyone else had the same problem?
Typically cheaper boots will be more durable. High-end boots use thinner, lighter and softer materials which will be better for feel and overall performance, but won't necessarily be more durable.
Hi josh, I completely agree with what you said. Do you have a pair of the mercurial superfly v cr7 Quinto Triunfo coming in? I was able to get a pair from Nike. Again, great video!!
If you play in a local league on turf fields like I do, the "DF" collar is actually great because it keeps the black rubber bits out of your shoes at all times! Outside of that it makes no difference, but hey it's kind of nice to not track those things into your house/car...
Thing I love about classic leather shoes is that I feel that if I make a mistake or something is off about my shooting or passes, I never like to blame the shoe.
Tiempos and Copas are the best things ever. I actually use those ankle socks during training, especially the thick ones. Really good comfort and support. I find it really good. During games I combine those sockes with long thin soccer socks over them.
The collar on the Nike boot is also available for basketball shoes as well. I personally do not like the way it looks mainly because I have short legs and want to the lowest cut shoe to "lengthen" my legs.
I know what you mean with the lacsless it’s not as good as the the other ones with laces but i love my ace16+ and I love my nemeziz and the good thing is I paid 92$ for my nemeziz and 140$ for my ace 16+
+SYA Playz I love the traditional cut, but have never had trouble putting on the midcut styles. Just loosen the laces, the knit is very elasticated like a sock
I was the victim of overpricing. I had some broken boots, from Diadora, Umbro, Adidas and all of them were low to midrange priced. So when buying latest pair, I decided to go with Nike Superfly V (yeah, with sock, but I actually like it), over 250€, expecting some higher quality. While they did feel a lot better and comfortable than low end Mercurials, they were not significantly better than my midrange Nike Premiers (leather). Now they are slowly cracking from the top of the foot, you know, where the foot bends when you push off. Less than half a year of use. They are said to be flyknit or whatever, but still has that cracking or deterioration like these plastic leather substitutes have (like those cheap footballs have). So, I'd be better off buying 3 midrange boots, than this. It's not a bad boot, I like it a lot, but don't expect any additional build quality or something from this extra money.
For the mid cut cleats I think it depends on everybody. For example I wore mid cut cleats for all of my season and when I wore low cut cleats my ankle felt a lot more vulnerable
although people do think high top soccer cleats/boots add some kind of support to the ankle, which I do admit, that is untrue, I prefer high top cleats more because they do add more protection from my cleat falling off. they make the cleat alittle more secure on my foot rather than a crappy cleat that slides off my heel. I wear high tops quite often and my favorite pair of cleats in my collection is a high top cleat. they also, in my opinion, look pretty cool when standing alone. but of course, if you aren’t crazy about high top cleats and you’re still iffy about your cleat falling off, just make sure you find a good size that fits you. I have tried many different cleats on and high top cleats are much harder to get off or sling off when you’re kicking. in my opinion, that’s better than any ankle support.
I just got some Superfly 5's and my toe is exactly where the boot ends with so room at all. Would it be better if I got some with a bit of room, or if it's better if the toe is right where the boot ends? Thanks
hi Josh, i see where your coming from in terns of the laceless boots. But how do you explain the big pros wearing these laceless boots (ozil, pogba, mata, rakitic etc etc). I dont think they would go for laceless just for the money if it really was that bad in terms of preformance.
I have to assume that they're wearing custom made boots, which would make a huge difference with or without laces. Also, just because they might look like the same ones you can buy, that does not mean that they're actually the same.
All are very fair points guys. However there are also some smaller pros who wear the lace-less models, i don't imagine adidas endorse say, Newcastle players for all that much money to the point where they would compromise their performance just because Adidas wants them to. Dont get me wrong i 100% agree that laces give you more lock-down compared to no laces, but it just might be that you need to have a very specific foot type to feel good in them.
I have the adidas 18+ purechaose, and it's marketed as an FG AG stud pattern. But if i use them on AG, would my manufacturing warranty still cover the shoe?
I have the Adidas 17+ Purecontrol right now n the laceless i had no problem with at any time. It locks my feet down torally no matter how rough n rugged my twist n turns r. I'll be going back to Nike though maybe the Superfly VI Elite
Josh, I want a new pair of cleats and I'm not sure wether to go with the magista obra 2 or the superbly 5, I've tried them both on but I'm not sure which one will be more comfortable as I break them in, what do you think?
I personally find the Obra more comfortable, but it depends on what type of fit and feel that you like. If you tried them on, surely you must have some kind of preference.
I love my low cut mizuno, always like to be protected by slightly thicker quality leather, and just used to wearing ankle guard, so the mid cut doesn't really work
laceless boots give me a great feel of the ball and I find I have a better strike as well. The only downside to laceless boots imo is that when I'm sprinting it feels a little awkward when I have to change directions quickly my feet slide around a little
It's not affecting my play too much and for me the pros outweigh the cons. I will say however I kind of wish I got X's but the laceless predators have been great for me
Hey Josh, what's your favourite or what you think is the best out of the ACE 17+ Purecontrol, Adidas X17+/16+ or Mercurial Vapor. Cheers, would really appreciate the help
My personal favorite to wear from that bunch is the Purespeed. The Vapors are great too, just very different when it comes to fit and feel, so it depends on what you're looking for.
I completely disagree about the collar not having performance aid. I personally will never go back to boots without collars. I still have some ankle issues from previous injury and had to tape it every time I play but after switching to boots with collar (Hypervenom II which I still wear), I no longer have to do so. Not to mention almost no rubber pieces getting into your boots from playing on turf.
Great video! But about the laceless boots, I'm a keeper and if you can imagine, it's quite hard to tie shoes with gloves on, especially in the middle of the match, so I would choose to go with laceless oppose to boots with laces
I'am 12 and lover to wear leather boots but if I don't have leather boots I love them to be black and my favourite boots is the Nike teimpo legend and adidas Copa
1. Leather is heavier so it's less beneficial for speed. Its not to appeal to younger gens. 2. The flyknit actually does support your ankle, I have weak ankles and my ankles used to hurt after playing and shooting more so, when I wore the mercurial superflys and ever since it gave me some support. 3. I agree with this point but I would rather have the lighter boots and last 2 years. Even though they're made with less material they still are very durable. 4. This is why they make the cheaper variations. If you can afford it then you can. If you can't then you get the cheaper variation. 5. Yeah I''m not sure about the lace-less idea.
Might sound daft but I feel more comfortable and more steady in a mid cut and they make my ankle feel better because I used to were just normal mercurial boots and my ankle did not feel so good just my opinion
Yeh i find them very useful because not only do I have a weirdly shaped heel that means that normal boots don’t grip my heel but I also have to wear special insoles which pushes my heel higher. The mid cut boots from Nike compress around my ankle and therefore my heel doesn’t slip.
I absolutely despise how fast my shoe's soles seperate. I dont know if it's related to durability or if I'm just really good at kicking the ground but i cant wait for a time when my shoes last 2 seasons without losing the soleplate.
I have the mercurial mid cut and it's disastrous. my ankle usually feel tight and painful after football matches everytime. recently my ankle injury took me 3 weeks to recover so I have decided to swap into lunar gato
As a pro player I have to use mid cut on artificial grass to keep the tiny balls out of my shoes. Its basically what its made for. But you need it in ag studs for ag surface.
I really like the Primeknit version, and even the SL version was great, but the regular model had some pretty significant issues with heel slippage, which I was not crazy about.
I believe that the lightweight material has the capability to be very sturdy and last a long time. But, In a business sense, nike/adi/etc. Won't do that because it will cause people to buy boots more regularly. On a side note great videos! I just hopped on the footy train and love shoes as well. Your channel is perfect for me.
I saw your video about how making the shoelaces on “invisible” on the superfly, do you think that will have the same effect on the ball as a laceless shoe?
The mid-cuts do improve performance but slightly due to the fact it offers less ankle space to move and also better performance so you don't tweak your ankle
It depends some work like the pure speed lace cover but others like laceless boots or ZIPPERS do not work so well
Something that bothers me, because of my color preference, is that it seems whenever a cleat is coming out in a white or black (simple color way) it is some type of special edition boot that is more expensive or impossible for the average consumer to get their hands on. colors to me are bit over the top these days
+Soccer Reviews For You yes
OVERPRICING...I HATE that
Who doesn't my dude? :(
The only reason prices raise is due to counterfeits
Meme Lord you’re right
Meme Lord No, in fact most of the Pricing is due to marketing. Look it up.
Shout out to puma for making the puma future only $220-$230
Of course there is a zipper intro
it's getting old ffs not funny
*there
The sock does not help with performance, but as a player who almost always plays on turf, it helps to keep the rubber out of my boots. It’s not a big deal, but it does get annoying
Alcantify sooo true
Valid point that I never thought of.
Such a good point. Indeed, a big difference there and also saves you from potential blisters(rubbing your foot while you are running).
I have never worn a sock before
Daniel R. Anderson wow do you realise how stupid you sound
Seun MajekodunmikikiEmmanuelIMMORTALITY i love you too

1. People calling them soccer cleats instead of football boots
This video is for you ua-cam.com/video/HziFQCAuJvE/v-deo.html
Soccer Reviews For You thanks for replying, it wasn't meant to be fully serious btw
Angela Birt yeah i just learnt that football boots were called cleats when an American student came to my Caribbean school
Angela Birt americans....
Here in Jamaica we say football boots

Overpricing bloody hell
Bloody helll (ron weasley 2017)
2017???
Why is "laceless" even a thing. It just takes away lockdown and responsiveness
john-m q so companies can claim "innovation" and "revolutionary" along with all the other hype terms they use
Lol I have a pair of predators and the lockdown is pretty good
better touch
Cool good for you, nobody said the lockdown is BAD, it’s just worse than it would be with laces
john-m q because of the money
I hate when people call the Adidas purespeed laceless. There are clearly laces under the lace cover.
AC they are laceless tho... adidas' description says so.
I have a pair, and they definitely have laces
+NetherHaileyGaming stfu man
Have a pair, they have laces
If that bothers you then you should look up clip-less cycling shoes.
This really help people who have no idea what the mid cut does
yo imagine a tiempo with a collar

Yeah I saw the pictures for it. It’s a Flyknit mid cut with a Flyknit lace cover. They look pretty crazy.
Can you guys give me a link to the pictures of the magista replacements. I really want to see them
Nike has done it, the Phantom VSN will succeed the Magista Obra 2
Ashton Mitchell it's the phantom vision

I like the fact how in your videos you are very descriptive and honest. I honestly agree with your opinions about these trends.
I get midcut because lowcut would always get filled with grass
Grass? You mean astro? Idk but im not playing on a freshly cut pitch
What bothers me is that current marketing makes kids think leather is a bad material, when it is the best, and everything is becoming midcut when it ruins the look of some boots, like the Preds

Hi josh, I completely agree with what you said. Do you have a pair of the mercurial superfly v cr7 Quinto Triunfo coming in? I was able to get a pair from Nike. Again, great video!!
I managed to secure a pair, yes. I should have them early in the new year.
What i like about midcut is that i get less dirt in my shoes. For example no rubberstuff on AG or small stones on red sand.
I just like that because it looks good I didn’t even know that people thought it’s something that supports your ankle
I like the midcut boot because you can wear Trusox and have your kit providing socks without tape.
Nice video Josh! Keep up the good work and you will always have my luck
Josh where is memes part 2
The mid cut _ high top, it prevents small rocks get into the boots; tuft field, sand field.
Mid cuts are the best for indoor turf...I hate picking out the little pieces of turf that are inside the shoe
The ua spotlight 3 should have buttons
Like a self destruct button?
Soccer Reviews For You thank you for commenting on my post it means the world to me
A main factor for the collar is aesthetics. It looks cool, so if thats worth the extra money to you, then go and buy it
I actually enjoy the sock or sleeve on the boots because they keep my ankle from slipping out of the shoe like on low cut shoe
Tiempos and Copas are the best things ever. I actually use those ankle socks during training, especially the thick ones. Really good comfort and support. I find it really good. During games I combine those sockes with long thin soccer socks over them.

I find that the collars are useful for keeping out small bits of grass and dirt from getting into your shoe
Nihat Rahman Soccer my whole life. Never got anything in them and I wore Jomas. Lol. F this world.
Not a fan of laceless and the dynamic fit collar, i do like magista obra 2 though
My favorite boot of all time is the copa mundial
I think mid cut shoes look pretty nice but low cut shoes are much more comfortable fro me
Why i HATE high cut boots/cleats
me:ooo a superfly (true size or even 1/2 size up) *tries on boot*
*struggles* fifteen minutes later... *I GIVE UPPP*
+SYA Playz I love the traditional cut, but have never had trouble putting on the midcut styles. Just loosen the laces, the knit is very elasticated like a sock
SYA Playz they're easy to put on as long as you loosen up the laces deep enough
The collar stretches out a little after you put them on each time. I do remember it being a struggle putting them on the first time though.
Jonathan Rodriguez after a couple of wears the collar becomes WAY easier to put on.
What would you recommend; Nike Vapor X's or Nike Vapor XI's?
I can recommend either of them. They're both excellent.
I was the victim of overpricing. I had some broken boots, from Diadora, Umbro, Adidas and all of them were low to midrange priced. If you're cleats falling off when you kick the ball, they are very likely way too big. That should never happen whether they're mid-cut or low-cut.
I just got some Superfly 5's and my toe is exactly where the boot ends with so room at all. Would it be better if I got some with a bit of room, or if it's better if the toe is right where the boot ends? Thanks
Do they feel uncomfortable? If they don't than I'd say your fine. It depends on how you want/like them to fit though.
hi Josh,
i see where your coming from in terns of the laceless boots. But how do you explain the big pros wearing these laceless boots (ozil, pogba, mata, rakitic etc etc). I dont think they would go for laceless just for the money if it really was that bad in terms of preformance.
Hakam Farid they are specifically designed to fit their foots though so it's perfect sizing for them
The pros have custom fit boots so the purecontrols fit like a dream and are great
I have to assume that they're wearing custom made boots, which would make a huge difference with or without laces. Also, just because they might look like the same ones you can buy, that does not mean that they're actually the same.

The only downside to laceless boots imo is that when I'm sprinting it feels a little awkward when I have to change directions quickly my feet slide around a little
I'd say that's a pretty big downside.
It's not affecting my play too much and for me the pros outweigh the cons. I will say however I kind of wish I got X's but the laceless predators have been great for me
What I like about the sock is that it helps to keep debris out of my boot. Sort of like gators for hiking boots.
midcuts on turf prevent the little rubber pebbles from going inside my cleats and destroying my feet.
Do Vapors fit true to size??
they fit me true the size
Yes.
I don't get why adidas makes predators leather for the players but not for teenagers
at 1:34 does it bother anyone else that on the wall behind Josh the Predator 18+ gets moved to a different place in the next frame...
This was an amazing video thanks josh I totally agree
If you don't like the sock just but the lace less version simple as that
Awesome video josh
Might sound daft but I feel more comfortable and more steady in a mid cut and they make my ankle feel better because I used to were just normal mercurial boots and my ankle did not feel so good just my opinion
I get midcut boots because I play on turf and I hate when the rubber goes in my cleats
I remember those 2010 f50 i couldn't believe people were actually playing in those
Josh would u rather wear the underarmor spotlight or dynamic fit Joma?
The Spotlight is a much better boot.
With the sock cleats I I have them but I dont buy them for the heel support I like them because the lockdown in the heel
The fact that they're mid-cut has nothing to do with having better lockdown.
Soccer Reviews For You you know they don't know what they are talking about when they say it has a "sock"
Nathan Z what do you call it?
I agree with you it does give more lockdown
Yeh i find them very useful because not only do I have a weirdly shaped heel that means that normal boots don’t grip my heel but I also have to wear special insoles which pushes my heel higher. The mid cut boots from Nike compress around my ankle and therefore my heel doesn’t slip.
Really good video
I agree with the points you presented
I absolutely despise how fast my shoe's soles seperate. I dont know if it's related to durability or if I'm just really good at kicking the ground but i cant wait for a time when my shoes last 2 seasons without losing the soleplate.
what is the end card Music, josh? just wondering.
But you need it in ag studs for ag surface.
josh are you going to review indoor premier??
Also Josh, what is your opinion on the adidas 15.1 x ?
I really like the Primeknit version, and even the SL version was great, but the regular model had some pretty significant issues with heel slippage, which I was not crazy about.
I only like the socks on cleats to keep the black dots of turf out of my boots
I like mid cut but I really hate taking them off and putting them on
I hope adidas brings back the adizero
The reason i like the mid cut soccer cleats is because it looks cool. I don't really think any thing about it is because i have never worn one
There's no difference in feel on the ball between a cleat with or without laces.
I don’t even play soccer but I come simply to hear josh speak about them
Best intro yet. And best joke so far towards that zipper boot LOL 😁😅😅
I wore the adidas X 16.1 leather last season and they’re amazing, I’d never worn leather boots before and it’s great
The mid-cuts do improve performance but slightly due to the fact it offers less ankle space to move and also better performance so you don't tweak your ankle
Did you watch the video?
i feel like puma would make custom lacing to off set laceless and prove apoint
I buy the shoues with the colars cause it looks good. Not cause i think its getting any better but i like the feel of the colar on my ankel
I used my MercurialX Proximo to school and everytime my friends see it they always ask why'd you wear two layer of socks? Lol
I don't like cleats with are weird thing either but when your in Iceland it helps a lot when it snows in flip spring!
Hope you can get your hands on the sergio ramos tiempos coming out
To me the mid cuts are so nice I know they don't do anything but they are nice
i just like the mid-cut sock cleats because it keeps the dirt from entering
Here in Brazil the Tiempo Legend is about 380 to 400 dollars...I totally agree w all things u said
